It made a little bit of sense early on since Harry was the eternal optimist they were going to get home and had a hot girlfriend waiting for him, but I don't remember if they ever followed up on what her deal was after they re-established contact with Earth.
Janeway got a Dear John letter. One has to assume Kim got in touch with her when they reestablished contact with Earth.

I assume he did. I remember Janeway got one but I can't remember if Kim did or if the writers had completely forgotten about him.

That might have been a funny premise for an episode. She gets that letter and then immediately decides coming back to Earth is pointless and makes the ship land on some planet. Then some kind of natural disaster forces her back into space.

DS9 literally had an episode about a scifi author writing about DS9.

Voyager didn't come CLOSE to that level of meta.
Is Far Beyond the Stars really that meta about Deep Space Nine or even Star Trek directly though? It seems to me to be much more about the early science fiction genre, to the point where the plot actually has little to do with the show itself. Star Trek had a small hand in and was influenced by early SF, but I don't think the two can be equated to each other like that.

If that is not meta then the word has no meaning. It's a commentary about the show within the show. Don't make me start dragging Supernatural into here for comparison.

That's before even going into all the TON of in jokes they had like...

Wait wait, I distinctly remember an episode that was about somebody on an alien planet making up story's about voyager. And the conflict was about him trying to make passionate artistic story's as opposed to commercialized ones.

Muse.

And the Doctor wrote fan fic.

As did Tuvok.

But none of those comment on voyager AS voyager. Compare with say... the Avatar: Last Airbender episode "Ember Island Players" which had jokes in it about the show that only make sense from a perspective outside the show. (Like Toph being played by a big dude, even the characters comment that makes no sense.) In every "about voyager" episode, there's no commenting on the constant reset buttons, the conflicts that go nowhere, Janeway's mood swings, etc etc. The closest would be the imposter episode, "Live Fast and Prosper."

Far Beyond the Stars has lines like:
"Oh! She's got a worm in her belly!… oh that's disgusting. It's interestin', but disgusting."
Said BY the Dax actress. The actor/actress commenting on their own character is like textbook meta.

That episode is great. The writer keeps trying to crowbar his fanfic into the script. Then the actress playing the "Borg Queen" breaks the fourth wall and threatens to assimilate the audience, making them recoil.:story:

For comparison, the highest moment of metaness is this.

Everything else is somewhere on the scale under that.

Off topic Meta sperging but one of the most meta things I ever saw anywhere was the Batman the Animated Series episode "Beware the Gray Ghost" where they tweak Batman's backstory a bit by having Bruce Wayne base his Batman persona off an old fictional crime fighter called the Gray Ghost who was largely based off characters like The Shadow and even had a radio and later a TV show..
The meta part? The actor who played the Gray Ghost was voiced by Adam West.

Ok niggers, fresh off the printing press comes this taste of the nightmare to come with the official Season 2 trailer for Picard

I have not seen it yet so will live react to it over the next two minutes in this post

EDIT 1: 10 seconds in and the senility on display is already sinking my stomach
EDIT 2: oh for fuck sake what the buck breaking fuck have they done to Q? Why is he dressed like a shitty cosplay of the villain from Half Life 2?
EDIT 3: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand we have another patented giAnT uniVERse enDInG CAtASTroPhe oNLy oUr HEroS CaN sTOp storyline, implied to be involving alternate timelines because guess thats the last idea for this shit they have not yet tried
EDIT 4: oh yeah and all the shitty side characters from picard season 1 are back including the womanchild murderer and the womanchild who tried to genocide all life in the galaxy on a whim because thats what everyone was clamouring for obviously
EDIT 4.5: goddamn this EPIC AND DRAMATIC music is so fucking cancerously generic
EDIT 5: jesus christ 6 of 9 looks haggard as all hell. oh yeah and i guess this dark alternate timeline involves the klingons uniting with the federation given the new starfleet badge, and the sinister music suggests this is a horrible thing despite....ah fuck it who even cares?

TLDR

I don't fault Ryan and DeLancie for needing a quick paycheck. I have to wonder what is going on in Stewart's noodle.

DeLancie looks pretty good for his age, kind of cool that he's sporting the goatee. So is the symbol in the star fleet delta arrow a sword, upside down cross, a star? I'll probably pirate this just to see how they mangle Q.
