Star Wars Expanded Universe Fans/Cultists - I HOPE YOU LIKE STAR WARS AUTISM

His books.
Also because there's a huge fandom for Mandalorians.
I'm kind of a fan for mandos as well, they feel less.. Mary Sue than force users.

Clearly you've never read a Karen Traviss book.

Ok, but I'm obligated to hate, or at least dislike all Fandalorians. This means that you're no longer my backup favourite if anything should happen to @Trickie.
Hey, @flossman, how do you feel about Mandalorians?
I just have a small fraction of knowledge on them and know them better than anything else in the EU. (:_((:_((:_((:_(

So, I don't get why latch on to EU stories. It's just a bunch of books/stories. Why pour so much effort into something that is just fiction and owned by a private company?

I think it's because for 23 years or so the EU was treated by just about everyone, even George Lucas himself, as being the official continuation of the Star Wars films, then one day Disney just said "nope, doesn't matter anymore." I can sorta understand why fans who had been following the EU since the start would be pissed off at that... but then again, there's no way that you can expect audiences to go out and read a quarter-century's worth of novels and comics just to have all the background information for these new films, so it was really the right decision.

Is there an equivalent to "Fandalorian" for Chiss?

Ask this chick, she seems to have a hard-on for both.

What? No, he didn't. He said something along the lines about how he didn't care about the EU and how it was an alternate universe to him.

The thing I ultimately must stress, and this was why I could never take the EU seriously at all, was just how lax Lucas was on what was canon and what wasn't. Remember, the Ewok special where they fought the evil sentient mountain thing? That was canon. The time Chewy's uncle masturbated in front of camera to virtual softcore? Canon. The time Chewy got smacked by a fucking planetoid? Canon. The time Han and a palette doused Bugs Bunny were partners in crime basically? Yep. Canon.

It legit feels like he just said "yeah sure, it's in" whenever someone asked him about any stuff. And with that sort of quality control, I couldn't see it as anything to be deemed worthy or to be taken seriously. Doubly so since I dealt with the sperglord EU fans and Fandalorians a few times. They would literally point to these things all the time whenever they said something that ran counter to what you saw in any of the films or if they wanted to fanwank over stuff.

Besides, I only ever hear of there being at best maybe 2 - 4 titles in that pool that's worth reading at best.

He did care more about the EU during the early years of the range - he gave quite the glowing endorsement to the Dark Empire comics, in particular, from what I recall - but I think as the years went by and he got involved with the prequels, he just didn't have the time to keep up to speed with what was going on.

I kind of get the idea that Lucas might have enjoyed the EU as a side project, something he could test ideas in if he wanted to, but it was never something he felt he had to maintain. He could read and enjoy things if he wanted to, was willing to take any ideas he liked, and probably allowed his associates to take things if they didn't interfere with his vision, but in the end, I don't think he ever really considered EU seriously, and if he did, he changed his mind a long time ago and was consistent about his position after he did.

I think a lot of the confusion comes from Leland Chee, who did maintain that everything was canon (maintaining canon was his job).

Fett was dishonourable and deserved to be eaten by the Sarlacc.
The expanded universe is unknown to be canon or not, especially in Old Republic lore, its more ambiguous canonically than the 40k setting. Though in my opinion I like Mandalorians a lot more than Jedi and Sith (well, Old Republic Mandalorians) because they feel a little more grounded and less sue-ified with the exception of Fett, the fucking hut'uun.

Good hunting for lolcows.

Why exactly was Fett dishonorable? I'm a bit curious.

Edit: Just to throw it in, I never got the whole deal with Boba Fett either. Sure he had a nice suit, and was actually fairly ballsy in flying up close to Luke in hopes of getting a shot in that he couldn't deflect, but beyond that he was kinda of a bummer. I sorta saw him as a pure bounty hunter/mercenary who'd just collect the bounty and be on his merry way.

Of course Lucas liked Dark Empire, it's utter shit on the level of the prequels.

so what's the general opinion on John Jackson Miller because I read A New Dawn and I thought it was entertaining.

Has he done anything terrible or what.

Most people say Miller is ok. I haven't actually read A New Dawn or any of his previous old EU books. He wrote some stuff in the The Old Republic era that most people say was hit or miss. He also wrote a book about Kenobi's early days on exile on Tatooine that was generally well-received.

Bleh. Personally have not read any of her Star wars novels, But if they are similar to the Halo Kilo-Five Novels she put out then I will probably pass. You would not believe how many people use the term "travissty" to describe them.
