Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

Plo Koon.
Obi Wan Kenobi he's a bold one.
You know, from the very first moment I saw her back in 2008, I thought she was a stupid and unnecessary addition, but not even in my worst nightmares did I ever imagine that the franchise and fandom would begin devolving into little more than the Ahsoka Show...
I use to like Ahsoka, but now I see her nothing more than a super over powered creator's pet shoehorned into the entire star wars saga regardless of any logical sense.

Dave Filoni just posted this art today

Togashi, call your office. And possibly your lawyer.

I honestly hope to see if this shit bombs, but there's no site for sales statistics on audiobooks as far as I know. @Jub-Jub are you familiar with any sites that keep track of novel sales in a similar fashion to Comichron? Would be nice to know just how "best selling" the Disney Wars novels really are.
Not as far as I'm aware. A Google question brought up options for a paid amazon tracking service without historical data, Nielson reports that I think is now NPDBookscan, and Bookstat which are both aimed at large industry players.

I think Comicchron only gets away with it because it's one suppiler and only captures the direct market. One of the common rebutals pros hide behind is that library, schoolastic, amazon and digital sales are amazing because they know their publishers aren't willing to hand over that data.

I disliked her at first, then warmed up to her initially but always held the opinion that she should've died in the leadup to Episode III. Dying in Rebels to Vader no less was acceptable, but then being brought back to life through the magic of time travel turned most of Filoni's output into a joke for me. She's going to outlive the OT 3 at this point. In a way it mirrors how I feel about Filoni Wars as a whole where I went from apathy to liking to just disliking it again the longer it drags on.

Pretty much my thoughts. I hated her at first, mostly because the movie and seasons 1 and 2 were so weak, but she grew on me as a plot device to make Anakin more antagonistic towards the council after the council fucked up her trial. Then I learned about how she was going to appear in an arc that would retcon Genndy Wars and have her meet Anakin after the show was cancelled, then she appeared in Rebels, then she survived her duel with Vader, and then we got the rumors about her showing up in Mandalorian (hey, let's ruin our gritty space western with Jedi wizard shit). They do not know when to just let other characters shine, or when to let different shows find their own identity without "hey, I recognize that" moments all the time.

So thanks to RedLetterMedia, i checked out this video.
It's great! The kind of stuff I geek out over.

And it's part of what makes the ST so freaking offensive to me. As you can see, the solving of problems leads to great creative solutions and choices.

Let's take one example: Anakin's lightsaber is destroyed in TLJ. But it's back in TRoS. But... why? Later on, Rey gets Leia's lightsaber anyway. So why not just leave Anakin's weapon destroyed? Why not have Rey spend a good chunk of the film without the saber and having to use her staff, wits, and the Force to survive?

It might lead to things like TENSION in scenes where now we see Kylo has an advantage over her and then make the scenes more rewarding when Rey wins!

And don't even get me started on how many problems TLJ could have solved with a time skip...

The Darth Plagueis audiobook was one of the best tracks to listen for me to tbh. Problem is that Disney is wasting audiobooks on shit like this. There's also a Plan IX one I believe.
Exactly, Back when everyone was listing what they would do if they where put in charge of the franchise I was tempted to chime in and say I might try to push to few good writers left (or just if there isn't any to hire new ones) o start writing audiobooks/dramas for star wars to start building the IP back up since there a lot cheaper to make then TV series or movies (I'm assuming that Lucasfilm is flat broke) and I kinda think they have more potential to reach a larger audience in today's world if market correctly then books or comics although I think some might disagree.

If I was in charge I would hire this entire thread to come work on the committee.

Though some of you may have to pretend to be trans for the cameras.

On the general topic of Disney Wars (this will be relevant, promise), I've been on a bit of a minor Droids kick since the reference to "Dha Werda Verda" in Republic Commando: Hard Contact jogged my memory, and while surfing the holonet for related info, I came across a small but well-made fansite, the Droids Adventures Encyclopedia, which has some brief bios of most of the major characters, distinguished in most cases by some really nice scans of the original animation model sheets for each. What really caught my attention, however, was the profile for the "Proto-1 droid" from the latter part of the cartoon's first story-arc:

According to his bio, "Proto-1 is an ancient security droid who considers himself his own maker and master, due to the fact that he rebuilt himself to his present form."

Eat your heart out, Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: on her own, Ahsoka's fine. Great character concept with some fantastic possibilities, but her arc decidedly ended with the incident with the council. If Filoni had backbenched her for a while, maybe had her show up sparingly later, or go into hiding only for this to be how she survived Order 66 and reappear later in a very different galaxy after the Empire's rise, no one would have had a single fucking complaint.

The problem comes in with the fact that Filoni realized she was a fan favorite and soon began shoving her into everything. You see this happen in fan fiction usually, where the creator gets attached to their own character and becomes unwilling to have their arc end, but like the wolf shit, Filoni took it up to 11.

As has already been noted at length, she was a stupidly overpowered character pretty much from the word go. Filoni even lets her easily destroy Droidekas. You know, those shielded, very heavily-armed hunter-killer droids that the Jedi always run away from every single time that they show up across the entire Prequel Trilogy?

I'm not going to defend Aphra, but I will kinda defend the idea of star wars making more aduiobooks/audiodramas.
I don't know how many of you have listen to any of them, but some of them have a decent amount of effort put into them, especially ones where they get Marc Thompson to do the narration.
Did anyone else here ever listen to the audiobook they made for tales of the Jedi... It was a pretty well put together production (shame it ended at Dark Lords of the sith and didnt cover Sith War, Redemption, or the two prequel miniseries)

Apparently Disney is furious that Leslye Headland is doing a show. Apparently they didn’t consult Disney on her, who has a lot of legal baggage.
Man, how stupid are they?

Before the Coronavirus they might have been able to blackmail Bob&Bob into making their show, but in the aftermath they literally wouldn’t have the money for it even if they were behind the idea 100%.

As much as Disney needs to publicly posture about how well Star Wars is doing, I don’t think Iger is delusional. He can see the numbers, he knows the extent of how badly Lucasfilm has driven a beloved multi-billion property into the ground to the exact dollar amount. He also undoubtedly knows that the Mandalorian is the only Star Wars property in the last 5 years that genuinely interested fans.

Based on the rumors surrounding the situation, this may very well be the last straw on the rat’s back. If Lucasfilm suddenly sees a ton of layoffs in the next month, we’ll all know exactly why.

As I stated, Disney will start downsizing after the pandemic ends. Lucasfilm will be one of them.
