So have we found out that Bethesda was actually a shitty hack company

Todd wasn't hubristic enough to not do his damnedest to distance BGS away from Fallout 76. In a few years as part of the marketing for ES6 I can see him doing the same for Starfield. I might be willing to give them one more shot because this game was shit for different reasons And he was around since pre-Morrowind, Todd just needs to grow some balls and tell the trannies at the studio to shut the fuck up and stop bitching. During his interview with Lex Friedman, he at least knows what makes a good game.

Fallout 3

At what point does one become an a-log? I already say that there should be a Hague equivalent for writing because of Emil and that fucking game.

So have we found out that Bethesda was actually a shitty hack company that just lucked into two (Skyrim and Fallout 3) good games?
I replayed Fallout 3 while following along with this thread, sped through the main plot in 28 hours. It's still good! It was great at the time because it was a novel setting even if the writing was dumb, but it's still fun and VATS is perfect for guys who suck at action shooters like me. I did like 4 hours of New Vegas but it kept crashing on Steam. Is there a way to make it work and keep the original content? I don't want 634 mods.

I got a reminder that I have 3 free months of Gamepass with my new laptop, I want to play Starfield after I replay New Vegas and Fallout 4 after reading everyone's opinions here.

You only need like three or four stability mods, off the top of my head YUP, NVAC, Stutter remover should fix the majority of your crashes. Double check on YouTube or Reddit or something though since sometimes mods get out of date and there might be better replacements.

Using that setup plus like a hundred new mods I only get crashes every three or four hours or if I stress the engine too much.

This is about right, except I don't run YUP. I went from having dozens of crashes per week to having literally none on my latest walkthru with over 100 hours, that includes a good amount of mods. I don't know what black magic they use, but playing TTW or New Vegas without NVAC and Stutter Remover is an exercise in futility at this point.

At the risk of outing my autistic guilty pleasures, I had Patrician's Morrowind video on as background noise at work a couple weeks back and he made a good point: Todd remembers Bethesda before Morrowind and how its success would determine the fate of the company going forward. He remembers this and wants to avoid going back to those days. Ironically, the video was also somewhat optimistic about Starfield. How three years can change a nigga.
Todd's favorite game (that he's worked on) is Morrowind and I believe him. He might lie now and claim it's Starfield but whatever. He's not in any hurry to remaster/remake Morrowind because apart from being a nightmare on his end incorporating current Bethesda into a such a project, he thinks it's fine as is and fan projects do it justice.
I don't think Todd has the will or the pull to deviate from the modern Bethesda playbook unless some cosmic hand sways Microsoft to come down and force Todd to not make a forgettable piece of shit. There's no doubt in my mind that both Bethesda and Microsoft are both keenly aware of how cherished the older Bethesda games are despite their flaws and how much has been chipped away since FO4. Microsoft didn't buy Bethesda to shit out another few FO76s, they're looking for another few classics but as things are, they're not on track to get em.
Even if Todd had the will, based off of how Starfield turned out on a technical level, I don't think Bethesda has the skillset to make anything better. There would have to be some extreme cleaning of house if either Bethesda or Microsoft is striving for anything better than Starfield.

Through my many years I've learned that there is almost nothing worse that can happen to a company regarding its creative output than getting bought by Microsoft.

You will get an extreme cleaning of house, Hell, it's already happening with the removal of their Elderly Scrolls lore master who was 'heavily encouraged' to leave the company not too long ago, but what you'll get is pure corporate shit diversity hires and pajeet coders that will putz around and refuse to shit anything out for years at a time.

I don't think Todd will be around much longer. He might stick on for ES6 but I think after Flopfield he'll be pulling a Molyneux here sooner rather than later. Or maybe just straight retire. Lies or not he does seem like the guy who genuinely wants to make games and I think years of pure corporate slop have taken a toll on him.

Isn't Starfield Todd's "dream game" in his own words, and he was heavily involved in the writing/wordbuilding?

If so all the extremely mediocre shit in this game is on him.

Agreed and that's why I said it'd more or less require divine intervention. I was not aware of the loremaster getting canned but I'd guess that the plan is to make ESO canon and that'd require a new yes man.

Stutter remover has been superseded by the New Vegas Tick Fix, according to some of the recent things I've heard NVAC will cause scripts to bug out when it "fixes" crashing, and you should add the New Vegas Heap Replacer as well since it updates the memory pool. And OneTweak if you like being able to alt-tab.
Hey lads, try this to play New Vegas in modern hardware:

This had some interesting things like DXVK and SpecialK.
I never got SpecialK and DXVK to work properly together, so YMMV.

The replaced Sarah with a unironic fascist retard who fails at both original BoS mission statement and the new mission of the Capital Wasteland BoS civilization building doctrine at the same time.
I wished she was the BoS leader in Fallout 4 with Maxson maybe second in command, could be an optional questline that if you want to play the bad guy you can help Maxson overthrow Sarah or maybe he helps you instead and you become the new leader. but with current Bethesda writing they would have turned her character into an absolute cunt, so its probably better she died offscreen.

Feels like Bethesda learned the wrong lessons from the BoS backlash from F3 but I will make the defense and say that the community also has some level of blame because of the constant criticisms saying that the BoS isnt like they were in the OG games when that is just ignoring a lot of in game context. Now, yeah, the game could have brought more contrast on the ideological differences between the Outcasts and BoS (and fuck, they should have made the Outcasts join the battle against the Enclave, possibly opening the door for both sides to consider burying the hatchet. In F4, that issue was just solved off screen to "show dont tell" Maxson as this badass).

Sarah really was a character they had no idea what to ultimately do with and they ignored a lot of potential routes. I can only imagine how Sarah Lyons could have worked as the BoS companion instead of Cross (an interesting but also ultimately unfulfilled character) and with a FNV companion quest (maybe convince her to embrace the BoS life or that she should "free herself" from them and that there is such a big world out there).

I also imagined if there was some version of the F4 script where you are suppose to confirm if her death really was an accident or not (maybe a twist where she isnt dead?).
Maxson united both West and East Brotherhood before he would have been legally allowed to drink, and we can assume that includes the MidWest Brotherhood as well(which is not a small feat considering how much they hate the Western Elders). He also reunited Outcasts back in Capital Wasteland and is overall something of a battle king in the making.

It all just reeks of convenience and trying too hard to make him awesome (or some sort of post apocalypse King Arthur).
Wait what is that really a thing what the fuck?

Also no. Maxson seemed like a good kid on Fallout 3, spergy sure but he was like 10 or 12 with a crush on Sarah kids that age are spergs and morons it`s life.

The reason I call him a fascist is because he has taken the Lyons mission of civilization building into a directions Lyons never wanted to take it, that is far closer to what the Enclave had going than anything FO3 BoS was doing. There is a good reason the BoS in FO3 had a split, and it is honestly one of the only good things about them in that game that Bethesda paid that due towards the actual lore showing some of the Brotherhood keeping the tech salvage mission going.

His complete retarded take on the Institute however is no excuse. There is no reason why the BoS cannot just destroy the Syths but keep all the other valuable tech in there perfectly fine. The player is literally the leader of the Institute by the end of the game. It would be absolutely trivial for a BoS friendly player and Maxon to simply cut a deal and have the Brotherhood move in to take over the institute and give it a moral compass to stop dicking around with synths that spy on wastelanders for God knows what reason and wasting time making robot Gorillas and Birds and instead do Project Purity 2: Fresh Wave or something. If you still need some big bombastic battle just have it be a civil war with some of the Institute spergs refusing to comply and trying to break away you need to kill.

Instead he declares you have to go and destroy probably the most advanced R&D facility and Industrial Center outside of Big Mountain because "fuck synths".

Im just saying that shit like that really makes Maxson seem like a shitty leader and not act accordingly to what has been established about his backstory (like unifying the Outcasts and BoS, which I assume would require some serious diplomacy skills).
There is literally no reason on God's Earth why the Synths should have human intelligence. Why do you need to make a janitor robot sapient? It is a fancy roomba why the fuck are you inflicting existence on it?

At least with robots like Cogsworth, he "may" have some level of sentientness but he does seem more than satisfied with serving the family he was programmed to care and you get the feeling its something that he decided himself and not because he is FORCED to do so.

With a synth, it seems like you are cursing them to an existence they really didnt ask for. Even if you dont see them as "living beings", you can still recognize their level of awareness of the world around them leds to them being doomed with the knowledge that they will never be human no matter what.

What Im saying is that the former felt like a natural gradual process while the latter is something forceful and I dare say even cruel when handled the way they were.

The institute really had no reason to create Gen 3 outside of sheer ego as they pretty much had the perfect spies with those synth crows who I can imagine could get the job done relatively well.
It's actually worse though. Gore/gibbing was completely removed and after hearing about it in Worth a Buy's review I actually reinstalled F04 and I can verify that the sound design for the guns is much weaker.

Which is absolutely baffling because the animations are a straight port so why not do the same with the audio?

Bethesda cannot stop fucking up for even a single second.

The same way that F4 made people look foundly on 3, Starfield is making people do the same for F4 now on the basis of "At least it was more fun to play/ still had SOME level of RPG elements".

So those idiots, despite admitting the voiced protag was a mistake in Fallout 4, still went ahead and tried to add voiced protag, only to realize again that it was retarded and drop it, probably wasting months of writing and voicework and probably hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions of development time and money. The worst part is that the writing is still just as retarded as Fallout 4. Definition of insanity or something, idk.

The worst part is, it didn't help in anyway with roleplay, since the dialogue options you have access to as the player still fall into the same range as Fallout 4, and it's very noticeable once pointed out. Yes, no, question (2 further dialogue options), and sarcasm.

It's more like
"Yes"
"Yes but phrased differently"
"Question"
"Sarcastic yes that makes your companion or whoever act all bitchy"
