Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

But what if you did pick the serpent cult background? Does it affect something? Wouldn't that make the PC also part of it?
Just had to search them up, the religion the Lodge guy follows is Sanctum Universum. I did not pick a starter religion or cult so someone else will have to answer that as I really don't want to play the game again. Enlightened, the other group, is more of a charity than a religion.

The Serpent's Embrace and the Universum's gods are just Starborn using their magic space powers to manipulate people in order to get to the artifact relics.

The only thing he actually says on that interview is that he took inspiration from his Catholic upbringing to make the DB an inverted evil/distorted version of Catholic cerimomy/rituals
Perhaps I am projecting and speaking out my ass then, in which case disregard all I said and wait for someone who actually knows something about him to correct me. I just dislike his writing in Skyrim and now this because its boring, and I found in Starfield's case it was pretentious. Also apologies if my posts are scatterbrained.

perhaps someone who is more versed at Emil hating can fill me in for that

There's also that the PC in Fallout 3 is a Christ figure, dying to save the world by giving it clean water. One can only assume that Emil thinks Jesus' sacrifice makes no sense, in relation to you sacrificing yourself in F3 makes none when you have a super mutant who's immune to radiation inside the Project Purity chamber, which is only there in the first place because Liam Neeson is an asshole.

Just use a lens of Emil being pissy about having to wake up early on Sundays, and all his work suddenly makes sense.

It's pretty ironic how averse reddit atheists are to hard scifi. They'd rather tech be literally magic and inventors be magicians who have IQ justifying their magical ability rather than confronting the fact that conservation of energy and mass prevents their fantasies from taking place.
Ironically, even atheists crave to have faith in something, so they chose to believe in magical Rick and Morty science.

Sorry to go a tad off-topic but I can't say I was hyped for the game at all and decided to try it on a whim: After about 8-12 hours playing SF I can't help but feel absolutely disappointed to find out that the plot is
a copy/paste of Skyrim in space hell we even got a mini fallout 3 quest near the beginning!
sure all the current year stuff is annoying as all hell (like Vlad, Sounds Slavic, dresses Slavic, he's a black dude though) but I can't help feel this game is actually a direct downgrade from the mechanics introduced in fallout 4. At the end of the day all this has done is made me crave an actually good RPG so I guess it's time to try out Underrail.

To those who enjoy what's there of Starfield enjoy it I guess but I probably won't check on it for a few years.

millions must be lost.

are there any other references to any other religions, or is it literally just random mentions of jews? in Dune, there is a christian text called the Orange Catholic bible, Islam+buddhism has become the Zensunni philosophy, but Jews have actually survived 10 thousand years unchanged unlike the others, because of their secluded nature. surely they came up with something like this for starfield, right?

this game is actually a direct downgrade from the mechanics introduced in fallout 4.
In a way, almost every Bethesda game since Morrowind (or even Daggerfall) is a downgrade from the previous one.
I am not looking forward to TES6, cause I bet they will find a way to dumb down the formula even further, so everyone from ages 1 and 99 can play it, with ease.

Is this game as dumbed down as Fallout 4 or did they actually add RPG elements to it?

Seeing a lot of Fallout 4 just based on moving and shooting and that the companions seem to be the stand in for a morality system.

If this game is fairly similar to Fallout 4 I'll probably be avoiding it like the plague.

Optional pronouns is just eye candy to media and investors, so who cares. The way he meltdowns about it is no different than a tranny crying because zxcher pronouns were not respected.

Bringing contemporary behaviors and politics can harm the story of some games though. Like in Last of Us 2 where our immune protagonist decides to munch on some Jewish carpet instead of passing on her immunity to other generations.

The annoying thing is, just having her even be conflicted by that decision; would have brought a lot of depth to her character that otherwise wasn't there. Wasted storytelling opportunity really.

Heres my rambling impressions of the game so far.
Thanks for the post.

I've skimmed the last 50 pages of the thread because there's only so much "hur dur popular game is shit ain't I a contrarian!" and "here's one minor bug game is completely broken -8biliion/10!" shit I can take. Especially after all the complaining about Baldur Gate 3 followed by people immediately buying it.

I was expecting cleaned up Fallout 4 in space, and that sounds like what it is. My main concern so far is the abundance of wokeshit.

Yes, but afterwards Andreja (all the characters have extremely forgettable names) came up to me and said I had saved her life and she got locked into my party until I completed a quest. So I assume she would be the Starborn if you went to the Eye. I also noticed that when the Hunter talks to or about the Starborn he always uses 'they', probably to save voice acting costs if it could be the dude or a woman.

Andreja is the only tolerable character, but she still 'disliked that' when you don't praise my hecking science.
I thought it would be Sarah not Andreja

Started a second play through with the intention of being a pirate/scoundrel/arsehole/murder hobo. So I must ask my fellow kiwis: Are there any of the companions who will go along with it? Andreja is the obvious choice for that play style with her traits but she clearly disagrees with my actions.
I’ve taken the trait that gives you bonuses with with a companion so I’m gimping myself if I go solo.

Been playing for around 40 hours thanks to holiday weekend.

I like it. I can see why others wouldn't. I see a lot of nit picky or just flat out wrong complaints that show me that either a lot of people were just going to hate this anyways or didn't really play the game to figure out how to do things correctly. (you don't need to use menus to travel between planets and such, the complaints of load times over "real space travel" is such a dumb fucking complaint since it amounts to basically the same thing, just sitting there watching a ship go somewhere)

Ambient characters are legitimately ugly. This doesn't bother me, as they're just ambient background dressing, but I can see why it bothers others. They all do have that weird "stare" thing going on. (my PC character seems to do it too, so I assume it's a quirt with models that weren't hand crafted or expected to be seen in dialogue scenes or something)

I'm bothered by the lack of clothing and armor. There are tons of clothing that are just duplicates with different names for some reasno. I expected armor to kind of work like Fallout 4, where you add "pieces" to clothing/space suits, but no it's just single space suits or nothing. I haven't found a way to change the colors of space suits or clothing yet like in Fallout 4 either, outside of the "skin" I got for pre ordering (which has constantly appearaed and disappeared constantly the whole time I've played anyways) which leads me to believe this was gutted for microtransaction purposes. (hopefully some mod author that knows what they are doing will just release a mod that adds everything in multiple colors or something to fuck 'em)

This whole system has gotten dumbed down to such a point that I'm honestly scared WTF Elder Scrolls 6 is going to be like.

The powers have, so far, been almost completely useless. There is one that gives you precognition powers that I assume can be used for persuasion, but by the time I got it I was close to end game. I have a feeling these powers will end up being a tad more useful in New Game+, but so far they've been even more underwhelming than Dragon Shouts. The unrelenting force copy cat feels very very weak in this game so far even. I also find it weird that one of them is literally named something like "See Star Stuff" (which basically just boils down to detect life from Elder Scrolls). It's like they never came up with a proper "sci fi" name for detect life and just left the placeholder text.

I got roped into the pirate quest chain and only played one mission, but the set up is so fucking stupid. Why the fuck do I need to go under cover in a pirate fleet to gather evidence to take them down legally? They're fucking pirates, not the mob. This set up feels like it should have been for a mob or illegal corporation quest chain not a pirate fleet takedown quest chain.

Overall, I enjoy the game, I can see why some wouldn't because calling it Fallout or Elder Scrolls in space is kind of a stretch, but I think a lot of complaints I've seen when browsing reddit and shit for a few minutes seem like bullshit coming from people who just want to be angry or hate the game.

Edit: As far as woke shit goes, I mean I guess the game isn't nothing but white people and there are some weird things where Sams kid looks kinda ethnic despite him being white and dirty blonde?

I actually thought it was crazy that I went nearly 35 hours in the game before Barret just casually dropped he was a faggot who had a husband that died.

I dunno. It's *there* I guess, but it isn't really in my face from what I've seen. There was a point where Sarah was getting really gushy about her former mentor and there was an option for me to ask if she loved her, and she just made it a point that she respected her but it still felt kinda weird how it was written.

Not any of the Constellation companions. They all HATE that shit, its my single biggest complaint about the game. You basically have to only take Vasco, or a random NPC if you want to do that. I did the pirate questline and at the end I had to persuasion attempt all the Constellation members to stay. Bethesda leaving out a bad/grey morality romanceable companion seems like an enormous oversight.

If you side the Crimson Fleet you are essentially locking an entire enemy faction. They spawn as the enemies on a lot of random points of interest, and if you are allied with them they will be non hostile. This means that if you get a radiant quest to wipe them out you risk getting a bounty with the fleet and need to make sure you kill all witness's. This also means a good portion of space combat random events will be gone as well.

I loved the CF quests but I wish I could make the randoms in space hostile again.

Thanks for the post.

I just enjoy this slop and actually agree that its a 7 or 8 out of 10 game. It has a ton of flaws but if you like Bethesda games you will like this.

The Wokeshit hasnt really bothered me as much as the fact that the whole game feels sanitized. The pirates arent really that violent like the raiders from FO and theres no sex in the game at all from what I can tell. The M rating feels very unjustified besides the fact that you can get addicted to drugs.
