Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

I haven't been paying attention. Wasn't this Xbox big tent pole for the Holidays?

Oh wait, so was Halo: Infinite for like two years straight...

Something must be seriously borked, or Todd Howard is taking this more seriously because it's *his* baby.

I can't help but wonder if Microsoft told them heads will roll if they have another fallout 76 type debacle. They spent a shitload on buying up Bethesda, they're not gonna want more half assed janky shit to show for it.

It's Skillup so grain of salt but supposedly his source told him the real time spaceship flying that was advertised is totally broken and CTDS on even the most powerful systems. That's the apparent reason for the delay.
I remember reading the hilarious story from one of their devs about how Bethesda does moving objects like cars and ships. Apparently they make an invisible npc and then give it a hat that is the ship/car and make it walk. That engine will be the death of Bethesda especially since they no longer have an RPG element to prop up the rest of the game. I'm really hoping they knock it out of the park though, but I have my doubts if they're even capable of making decent games anymore.

edit: found a reddit post about it

And yet people will still be clamoring for all these systems due to the shortages.
It's one of the reason I haven't bothered to get a new system, there's no games out for them that really catch my eye. Plus I'm generally a "wait for the price drop/2nd gen" types. If Starfield is any good that might be the push for me to bother, but that's just because there's not all that many good space games out there.

Morrowind/Empire Strikes Back or Skyrim/Last Jedi
We won't know until June 12, but apparently they want to make a more hardcore RPG with traits & backgrounds. Whether or not such things will have much depth remains to be seen, but I doubt Bethesda wants to intentionally piss fans off like Rian Johnson did after the backlash to Fallout 76.

If nothing else, I sort of get the feeling that this is a something of a passion project since it took priority over The Elder Scrolls VI.

I think Todd decided to do it after FO4 got annihilated by The Witcher 3 when it came to RPG of the Year awards since Todds games had pretty much won every year they were released. You can watch the awards ceremonies and Todd looks PISSED when Witcher won over Fallout 4. I think that's when he decided to make Starfield.

To be fair, he's right to be pissed. Witcher is hot garbage. As shitty as the RPG mechanics of FO4 are, at least it's actually fun to play, and isn't entirely propped up by horny manchildren.
