Starfield - Bethesda's new space IP: will probably be full of fun and easily trackable bugs

How do you think Starfield will turn out?

There being no gore at all confuses me so much especially since so much of Starfield is a straight port of FO4 assets.

This means they deliberately went out of their way to remove it, why?
It's almost like they were trying to get a Teen rating or something.

Honestly, I don't really understand why Starfield doesn't have a teen rating. The most sexual content in the game is very tame insinuation after "sleeping" while you have a romantic companion following you, the "drug use" is about as vague as Star Wars usage of it, there's no gore at all, and even the swearing is to an absolute minimum.

1) Because they're lazy
2) Because it might offend some people, and that's a no-no
Same reason as to why they removed the ability to strip down corpses of their clothing(imagine how much your average Bugthesda soyboy would cry if they saw a naked female NPC in this day and age, even if they were nerfed down to the point where they might as well look no different than male NPCs. There is a disgusting image of Sarah Morgan floating around in a swimsuit you can find in the resort area, she looks like a dude).

Wait, nevermind, I get what you're saying. That's possible I guess. I wouldn't have been against every suit just having some generic "undersuit" under it though, especially since you can't loot them anyways.

I honestly think another reason was just the weird looter shooter mindset they've had since Fallout 4. There's way too much randomness in both games for my liking, but they dialed that shit up to 11 with Starfield.

And speaking of both games, not only did they get rid of dismemberment in Starfield, they also got rid of the robots getting damaged. Remember in F4 you'd shoot robots and pieces would break off? I think they got rid of it because they could't get the physics working in 0G, so in true Bugthesda fashion, if something doesn't work, cut it. Hell, they couldn't even get physics working in 1G in F4! Remember how you'd see just random ghoul gibs spinning around for no reason? Or a corpse would get caught in a trash can and it would just start flopping around?
...and in Fallout 4 when it rains your clothes get wet. All of that isn't in Starfield for some reason.

Emil thinks his writing is sublime; that he writes masterpiece after masterpiece, and why wouldn't he? He's got the bank account and (until recently) the gaming journalist accolades to prove it! Emil thinks that profits = quality. And while F4's story sucked, at least you could turn your brain off (or mod the shit outta it) and enjoy the lootin' and / or shootin', but with SF you can't even do that!
He's a moron who believes that his writing is so intelligent that has to be dumbed down so that gamers can appreciate it.
You can see so many parallels between him and zack snyder that it's hilarious; they even shrug off any criticism, regardless of how founded it is.

Latest updoot removed the ability to edit ini files.

Few people hate anyone more than Bethesda hates modders.
What does it do, checksum "factory default" settings and refuse to start if something is changed? I thought they were leaning on the "modders will fix it!" meme to keep Starfield alive.

The way I'm reading it is that it's an update to Creation Club TOS, not Starfield itself.

So Creation Club will no longer accept files that have altered .ini files, it's not the game itself that won't accept them. It's an issue that really only effects Xbox.

But yeah, it's pretty funny considering Xbox is clearly the platform Starfield is most played on and I see a lot of Xbots claiming "This was the game where mods were supposed to work like they do on PC", but that was never going to happen because they were never going to allow Script Extenders.

I'm also reading that this had something to do with an ini that one of the paid mods from a verified author released. So it sounds like instead of actually checking these "verified" mods to see if they fuck shit up, they're just locking the door full stop.

Edit: It may be an update to Creation Kit as well, I'm hearing people say you can't edit ini files in CK itself anymore....but being honest, I wasn't aware this was a thing most people did anyways. I've never used CK but whenever I was told to edit an ini I always was lead to do it manually through notepad or through MO2 itself.

Last week, Luke Stephens did a review of the paid mods...
Some highlights:
  • A noodle stand run by a robot for $4, in case you wish you were playing F4
  • A "Mining Sim" mission board for $5, in case you can't get enough of radiant quests
  • A companion for $5, who always has to wear her helmet because her lip sync is broken
  • The "Ancient Mariner" ship hab for $10, which is pre-decorated with furniture that looks lifted from F4
  • Five Crimson Cringe themed habs for $5, from everyone's favorite clutter goblin
  • And the piece de resistance, the $7 dungeon mod that comes with a gun and armor. The best part? The gun is broken, the reload doesn't work!
Speaking of paid mods, you know how Todd is doing his big bullshit spiel about how this is just them trying to help out the little guy? You know what the alleged cut they take? Seventy-five percent! So if you sell your little mod for $5, all you get is $1.25 (which is probably closer to 70 cents after taxes). I have to say alleged because there is no transparency, and modders aren't talking about it, probably because they have to sign a NDA before they even get any information. I guess MS has to make back that $400 million somehow...

The quality of paid mods has basically convinced me that once you go corporate creativity dies completely.

The best and most interesting art is always creates by weirdos with passion for the thing they're creating and not for cynical consoomerisms sake.

I mean just fucking look at these mods and compare New Vegas Bounties to a $5 noodle stand.

Or hell even look at Fallout the Frontier, yes it's bad and cringe but it's more impressive on a technical level than Starfield and it's fucking free, then you have a $5 noodle stand.

I hate Bethesda so much and I hope Larian and CDPR eat their fucking lunch, TES6 is going to suck absolute ass.

There's a weird shotgun mod that has like 200k downloads between Xbox and PC.

All it does is add backgrounds that feature shotguns and more mods for shotguns, but it honestly sounds like it doesn't add anything visual and it's just stat changes.

I like shotguns, but the fact 200k people apparently went in on this is sad.

Both make great games, but I don't consider either competitors.

It's such a fucking shame that no other studio, aside from Warhorse, are making games that scratch that very specific Bethesda itch. They're insanely lucky they have this sub-sub-genre monopolized.

Maybe not for long though.
The Wayward Realms is probably going to be TES6's No Mans Sky.

I'd love to see a current remake of Morrowind for the lulz. For zoomie zooms that are too young to remember every npc is hilariously over the top racist to your PC. They tell you you smell you shit and call you the dark elf equivalent of nigger like every two seconds.

Try doing that today.

I recall a youtuber (Im sure some will be able to tell who) once ranted that we need racism for fantasy settings because they are the natural result of tribalism born out different races having to co-exist. So if you have things being honkey dory in the hood will make your setting less believable and engaging.

Its bizarre to say it but racism is a good thing for world building
Or at least it shouldn't. Phantom Liberty seemingly got everyone to love Cyberpunk even though it didn't fix the awful story and empty feeling world of Cyberpunk (for me), so what the fuck do I know about modern gamers?

Modern gamers are true suckers that deserve this industry.

At least you could argue that was charming and funny.

Bethesda hates modders and FNV, they constantly prove it with the shitty mod breaking updates that dont seem to add anything that mods havent add at launch and by the complete disregard of Interplay/Obsidian part of the Fallout lore.

What these two have in common? They are a constantly reminder Bethesda could do better but simply doesnt want to, they are satisfied with their own culture of mediocrity. Nearly a decade and all they produced was this? Other smaller studios were shut down for much much less, hell, one of them won awards and were still shut down just because.
