Yeah, whether I search for watermelon tourmaline, rose quartz, or lapis lazuli, I get cartoon characters that show up, not the rocks.When you searched for rose quartz, did you get this one instead?

So what is the plot of this show again? Is there a reason in the plot for all these of these characters to be named after types of semiprecious stones? Like, are they rock-kin or something?

Same here except for geology. Back when I first started working out, I would put it on Cartoon Network to serve as background noise and next thing I hear, "we....are the crystal gems!" From what I know from watching it and looking up the TV tropes page for it, its about a boy named Steven who's a half human half crystal gem hybrid and three feminine crystal gems Garnet, Amethyst, and Pearl who were really fond of Steven's mother (who I guess is like jesus to the crystal gems). Oh and typical silly kids cartoon tropes happen.

Yeah, that jawline bothers me. And to be fair, this goes with a lot of the characters (Steven included). That's one of the main reasons I think the art and animation are not that great- some of the design choices they made were not the best ones. I also don't get what's going on with the lips on most of the female characters.

Wow - just wow. Keep on giving me fuel to distance myself from show (like I did that damn pony show) someday , Tumblrfucks...
As for the show itself, as of late (via rewatching earlier episodes of it) I've already come to realize it's not all that funny nor entertaining when it;s trying to be funny, overall.
Uncle Grandpa, Clarence, Amazing World of Gumball - You can bash these shows all you fucking want - I don't care what anyone says anymore. ALL of those are funnier legitimately than this rock show has ever been intentionally, IMHO.
TBH, If I know anything about making a good cartoon to really put butts in seats that is specifically comedy, the number one thing you need to be successful with with the target demographic to do well in ratings - and this show royally lacks that, IMHO.
Heartwarming? Maybe so. Maybe. Dramatic? Sure enough. Suspenseful? Whatever you say. Funny/Hilarious? Not just no, but HELL FUCKING NO.

I've been marathoning this show the past couple of weeks and just caught up about a week ago. While it's definitely not the second coming of Jesus as Tumblr makes it out to be, it's still pretty great. I guess if I had to be nitpicky, I would say that the show can be a bit overdramatic at times, but I can forgive it because the voice acting in those scenes are top notch. The gems are great (My favorite it definitely Lapis) but the human characters are also pretty damn amazing. I feel like in another show they would be boring just because they're humans in a extraordinary setting but in SU, they're all highly entertaining. My favorites are Lars (In which I realize that I'm kinda in the minority here but there's something about him that I love and find hilarious) and Ronaldo (Something tells me that if he existed in real life, he would have his own thread on here. Dude's definitely a lolcow). Mayor Dewey also gets an honorable mention, which I guess I'm biased because I'm a big MST3K nerd, but even then, he's a great character on his own.

I just got into Steven Universe about a month ago after a while of just being indifferent towards it. I was first introduced to it ironically by someone who doesn't like the show (one of those "This cartoon wasn't around when I was a kid so it's automatically crap" guys). I gave it a chance and was pleasantly surprised. I think the main reason I steered clear of it for ages was because I'm not a big fan of Adventure Time which Rebecca Sugar was also involved in. Yeah it's got those whiny ukelele songs that Tumblr goes nuts over which I don't really care for but I much prefer SU's art style to AT's and I found myself actually giving a shit about the characters, so that's a plus for me.
