How far are you in? The character depth and such starts coming up near the end of the first season and continues from there.

I'm all the way caught up.
Pearl has some decent character struggles, but the gems seem to be able to do whatever they want and get away with it, especially Garnet. Garnet is a huge offender. Unfortunately, I think that might be because she's a lesbian.

Eh, Pearl's a lesbian too, and she's the Gem with the most personal issues.

I think it's just harder to notice Garnet's flaws because she has more of a composed peronality. But she's tends to both bottle up things too much as well as not fully listen to the other Gens if she feels she was in the right, like when Steven first encountered Peridot's Robanoids. She's definitely the least flawed, but she's also tge fusion of two Gems who are severely flawed in their own right.

I feel like "Alone at Sea" would've been a bit better if they'd shortened the first part of the episode a bit. The conflict with Jasper feels just a little underdeveloped. And of course (assuming the next two weeks aren't entirely plot-advancing episodes) it's gonna be a while before we ever see her again.

But I have a soft spot for Lapis (and especially the S.S. Misery joke), so it evened out in the end I guess.
From what I've heard, she might actually be back on Monday

Okay then. first time I genuinely say that, but Bismut was a pretty damn good SU episode.
A nice amount of drama as well as character and world building to it, and if anything it shows that this series would improve by a 23 min. format.
If that happened on a regular basis we'd probably get one episode every 6 months.

One more week of new episodes. Hopefully we don't have to wait another six months for the next one.

Clip please?

Late but

At the very least, I'm thankful for Smoky Quartz because they got the tumblr fandom to shut the fuck up about The Discourse(the whole Bismuth debacle).

I wish the animation could be that good for every episode.
Really, I found the animation good for the show, but not all that great in general.

Don't get me wrong, Trigger (or in this case, animator Takafumi Hori) can do good animation (when they're not making the term "cutting corners" their bitch). But the main problem still lies in the fact that they're still working under the direction, and character designs, of the domestic team. The use of the cheap-as-rocks Sunmin Animation (this episode's co-animators, and main series contractor) isn't helping either.

Honestly, if they just gave the whole episode to Trigger, I'd be a little more happy. But as it stands, it feels like a wasted opportunity.

This is what I like about SU: It's simple, you don't have to be genius to find parallels to a bit deeper meaning, but its still simple in its core.

What I don't like is that this show managed to attract the most autistic part of the world to it, and thought of a simple young tween finding about fandom is just breaking my heart.

I know my 12 year old would find it pretty much fucking crushing. :heart-empty:
