Having mixed feelings about this show. I’m not going to deny there haven’t been highlights in this show, particularly Volleyball, Little Homeworld and Why So Blue. At the same time, it can get really bad and I can’t help agree with some off the criticism here. The series tried to address problems in the original but it’s either too late (calling out Rose’s bullshit) or done hamfistedly (Steven using violence against Jasper). Steven is written to be sympathetic and overworked but comes off as a jerk sometimes, with other characters seemingly taking steps back in their character development. (Also the vegetarian line makes sense on paper given this is Steven, but keep in mind this also the same kid who munched on hotdogs in the intro).
The show has introduced several new Gem characters but somehow their even more boring than the townies; only Larimar has any semblance of a personality. The actual pacing of many episodes is off, with them trying to pull off that Season 1 feel that just doesn’t work at this point anymore. I can’t place my finger on it but the show has such a different tone from the previous entries and not in a good way. They really should have just ended the show after the movie imho.
Autistic ramblings on a cartoon aside, here’s a clip of tonight’s episode. God give me strength.
