Of course they dig up SU for this. They spoof how cheesy and hamfisted PSAs are but then proceed to play it dead straight a few minutes in. They probably thought they were clever doing that.
The “Don’t deny it-defy it” genuinely rubs me the wrong way; it kind of feels like they’re sayings “you’re racist whatever you do, get with the program now”. On the lighter side, I’m waiting to see if anyone will bring up Concrete or the whole Diamond redemption. That would be a real show.
The funny part is PSAs were only added to most 80s cartoons to pass a litmus for educational value and to seem more than just a toy commercial to concerned parents. They even added it at the end of the episodes so kids could skip it after the action was done.
People like Sugar on the other hand seem to genuinely think their PSAs will actually stomp out racism or low self esteem or in Ian’s case, help with gun control.
It’s always the fans going into defense mode whenever this is brought up that make me chuckle.
Anytime the porn is brought up they immediately go “That was a long time ago! She was only a kid when she drew that! She made SU so it evens out!” For the record, Sugar made the EEnE smut in 2007, when she was around 19-20, ie very much a young adult.
And yes, SU fans drag anyone else guilty of the same shit.
Actually, you can see Double D’s nose disappear in one panel. So even in her porn she can’t keep the art in order.
