Suggestion and Update Thread

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I think it would be neat to have some sort of highlighted indexing for the longer threads to help people find major events. E.g. in the Anisa Johma thread have links that take you directly to the page number where significant events are first reported on (Anisa starts an onlyfans, Anisa gets her first tattoos, Creator clash is announced) so that people don't need to wade through the whole thread if it's 200+ pages long. The person breaking the news could tick an option box to "add to index" with their post. Maybe in the page navigation widget add a "next significant event" button

Since there's been talk off and on about people deliberately making fedposting or otherwise glowing posts and the request for a sticker to indicate said posts, I'd like to suggest adding an "Asking for Trouble" sticker with the icon being something like this: 💣

If it's possible, maybe link it to only being linked after an account's crossed a certain point (not post) threshold, just so that the people using it already have some idea of the board culture.

A lot of the difficulty I find in using the forum is that browsing highlights cuts out a good deal of new content on a cow, but browsing the whole thread means sifting through piles and piles of people's autistic musings and reactions to reactions.

I get that people like the old school "everything on one page" forum style, and it would be impossible to change the forum to content posts with comments as a separate page under each new piece of material. But could we instead have a system that works exactly like highlights, but instead of being based on reaction count its flagged as new content? Content in this case meaning an archive of a primary source, a tweet or a video or what have you.

Obviously crowdsourcing it wouldn't work, because users would just use "content" as an "agree" button. But most fast threads have at least one moderator following them– maybe add a box for them to tick to flag posts as content? Or a couple "content" reactions could add the post to a mod queue (might be too much work to sift through)?

This might cause people to engage with the site less because they won't engage with comments on posts as frequently; but it might have the opposite effect, since people would find it easier to get to grips with new cows. And it wouldn't definitely help with the influx of new users who are used to the content/comment division on other sites and say whatever they're thinking without considering that it will bloat the thread.

Thoughts? Any pitfalls to this I missed? Haven't thought about the mechanics of it too much.

It's called the report button, alternatively try political sperging, MATI. Or a good old fashioned disagree or dislike

How do I insert a quote from someone into an edit?
Before editing the post, reply to the post you want to quote. Click the [] button to disable BBcode if it's on, so you can see the code. Select all that. Then edit the original post and paste what you copied into the edit box.

When I go through a lolcow thread looking for information on said lolcow, the highlights are seldom useful. The highlights mostly consist of the funniest jabs and memes and the like, since those are the ones that get the most sticker reacts.
Would it be possible to implement sticker-specific highlights? If I could just go through all the posts with "informative" stickers, for example, I believe that would make getting up to speed on lolcow information much easier.
Or is there some secret tactic I don't know about that saves me from going through 200 pages of replies.

Add one of those "seen all new posts" filled/unfilled circle icons to the Community Happenings box on the top of the main page.

I don't know if this has ever been suggested, but for my own retarded reasons is it possible to add a way to add a custom label to users? This way when i troll or shitpost my vitriol can be more targeted and customized to the user currently pissing me off.

Of course the custom labels would only be visible to each user who applies them.

i noticed that a lot of the custom emotes nowadays don't tend to be used much, because they reflect an older time in forum culture. some like applecat and dove seem to be broken, too:

:melchett::sunshinegoodness::wombat::pinetar::coster::bb::smokedaddy::waifu::applecat::dove:

i was wondering if maybe some new ones could be added, if that's possible? maybe we could have a contest to design new ones or something? no clue how XF works, so if there's like a maximum that's been hit, and new ones can't be added, sorry lol

The last two aren't even hosted on site or with the proper URL.
applecat links to imgur which obviously hates any hotlinks from the Evil Harassment Forum and blocks them:

And dove links to kiwifarms.net which is still on Cloudflare (showing that muh "emergency threat to human life" completely bullshit reason Matthew Prince pulled out his ass):
