Is that actually a real thing? Because I was using it rhetorically to describe why it isn't innate, and that moral argument against suicide is dumb. Specific circumstances like having dependents aren't innate; they're circumstantial, and can't be generalised either way.
But people feeling sad? That's cultural, and just as selfish if they think it takes precedence over whatever your reason for killing yourself is--you're setting that inconvenience for them against what you're framing as a convenience for the suicidee. Personal autonomy should break the tie in that case.

For the record I think utilitarian arguments against it are a lot more convincing.

But I also think you should definitely all kill yourselves.

Oh it was definitely a huge deal, despite being a massive high school; to the point where they took the soccer team with some faculty (the coach and at least one of the assistant principals IIRC) out of the school day to attend the funeral (I think with school transportation, even) at a local church a few miles away.
