Super Mario RPG Remake - coming soon

My guess is that the chief reason we are getting a remake of SMRPG is that someone at Nintendo really likes the game enough to go to bat for it's remake being made and managed to get Square to go along with it.
It might also be because AlphaDream fell under with all staff liquidated and working in different companies now so Nintendo could no longer release Mario and Luigi games with Paper Mario having poor sales since the Wii game. Mario and Luigi games have a possibility of coming back though, Nintendo got the trademark for the series in Argentina a few years back, so it's possible they might want to do more than just guard some games of their IP.

Fuck yeah! The new number of Super Jumps needed for the Attack Scarf is 30, and I just got 40. Took me a while, but I finally managed it. Thank God it's not still 100, because I've only gotten that once, and it was by save-scumming.

If anyone else is planning on giving it a try, use the Spinys from Bandit's Way. Jump doesn't deal any damage to them (unless you have the Jump Boots on), so you can try it over and over again until you succeed. Just have plenty of syrups and have your party members defend (or refill FP).

Edit: Never mind, I'm retarded. 100 jumps is the Super Suit. Yeah, there's no way in hell I'm even going to bother trying that.

I like the remixed themes. Some of them aren't any better than the original, but then it's hard to one-up on a masterpiece.
I don't know about the easier part, the original was dead-easy as far as difficulty goes.
At least after you unlocked Peach and got the OP items in the endgame. Mid game was pretty hard with the top difficulty Boss being probably Wario Booster and the spear guy.

look at you niggers....actually having hope......must be nice.......
Ian Flynn loves Skies of Arcadia and he's slowly but surely working his way up the corporate ladder, aided by the fact that the game he wrote sold gangbusters by sonic standards.

This game got a remake, and I really doubt anyone saw that coming. Nostalgia should not be underestimated.
This 100000%, if a dev team known for working on train simulators can bust out a fully realized remake then anything can happen when it comes to Squenix's catalog.

Now that I think about it... I wonder how hard it would be to get the Super Suit in Breezy Mode. It makes action commands easier, right?

Edit: Unfortunately not. Oh well. I've beaten this game over a dozen times without the Super Suit. No big loss.

What we actually need is Secret of Evermore remastered, followed by a sequel.

It was always more interesting than Secret of Mana.
Quite frankly Evermore and Mana remakes would be perfect for the stupid faggots at SE that insist on making every Final Fantasy game a retarded Actiony MMO wannabe.

They already did a Secret of Mana remake, but it was such a low budget effort that it deserves a proper one.

I've played this about halfway, to the Star Piece on Star Hill. There's a lot of uncanny stuff in the animations that makes perfect sense on SNES but seem totally weird on Switch. Things like party characters ghosting out of Mario instead of just popping out, stiff changes from one sequence to another, and especially the new idle breathing/heaving animations seem out of place. I do like the new battle animations especially when the bad guys die. There's a lot to be said for how faithful the 3d recreation is. It really is cool to see what these designs were supposed to look like before converted to lo-res sprites. Certain things like slow world map movement are a plain downgrade (and boy is the new world map ugly.)

Map changes that show the "outskirts" instead of just map edges are dumb and counterintuitive, and less "Mario-y." (See Booster Pass and Tadpole Pond.) Shading on platforms is very welcome and adds visual depth needed for jumps. (See Booster Tower.)

Crazy how the dialogue translation is the same but character names aren't. Koopa Troop to Bowser's Minions, Sniffits to ... Sniffsnoids? I can't remember. The originals were fine.

The dialogue appears in either subtitles, word balloons, or normal text boxes. It's disjointed. SNES version cartoon font is missed. Devs could've had boring Arial fonts on SNES if they wanted. In HD times, it's always boring Arial fonts though.

The remixed soundtrack isn't 1:1 since there are some expansions like key changes and intermittent flourishes. Even on classic mode I noticed that the cutscene "receiving Star Piece" music was the remix. Sound fx are hit or miss and even some missing. Changing to classic music took a lot of the edge off the uncanny animations.

All in all it's a solid recreation, surprisingly faithful, but with some caveats. If they were making a 100% new isometric 3d Mario RpG I think they'd make a lot of different creative choices, so I'm not sure modern audiences can get behind this. A lot of people seen questioning a $60 pricetag and I agree it's not really worth it if you can emulate the very charming, arguably better SNES version. FOR FREE. Ive always loved this game so I had to try it, and well I don't love the new version but it's pretty cool.

For being so hard to get, Super Suit would have to basically make you invincible and unlock nudes of Peach and Daisy to even be worth it.

Anyone get Hogwarts Legacy on Switch?
Why are you asking this in an SMRPG thread? Is there a joke I'm missing?

Honestly with how bullshit the 100 Jumps thing is as it changes the frames needed to hit the landing,I wished I could save state.

Speaking of things that were irritating in the original, how is the Yo'ster Isle race against Boshi in the remake?

On the SNES original I managed it once, and I remember thinking I had figured out a trick.. but playing the game again recently that part is just as stupid hard as when I was a kid (granted, on my most recent playthru I was using an emulator since I was streaming for a friend, so its possible that's messing me up).

What that race really needs is some sort of visual indicator of when you're supposed to hit the buttons, because the actual instructions are unclear as to whether you're supposed to try and press along with every single note, or just the major beats. I've always considered that challenge B.S. more just because its badly-explained.

It is really OP though isn't it? I thought it was about as good as the reward you get for beating Culex. Honestly it isn't that hard to assemble a build that lets you steamroll through the entire game, this is just one of many ways.

I'm not gonna buy a switch for this but I gotta watch a playthrough of this game and then probably replay the SNES game myself.

To be fair the Shell armor already makes you effectively invinsible..so all you would get is Tiddies of Peach and Daisy. Which you can get on google so even with those it wouldn't be worth it.
