Super Smash Bros.

I heard about that. That's pretty funny. I am so glad though that Nintendo isn't letting Sakurai do his perfection thing and that they're looking to start treating Smash as their fighting franchise, makes me hope for more patches soon about balancing (most of all making Mac's air game just a TINY bit better, I hear its hard to balance his strengths with that) Glad they brought Namco in on it too, so many of the characters got balanced now... But what I want to see is how custom moves change the game. I find it amazingly stupid that you can't use custom moves in For Glory, but that's Sakurai for you. Lets limit each character to four potentially awful moves instead of the twelve ones different options they get when you're playing with your friends alright kids?

So I downloaded the demo today and played through several matches. It's very visually appealing and runs at 60 FPS (except for assists and pokemon, who all run at 30 FPS). As somebody who plays on a regular 3DS, I will say that having a smaller screen is not a big deal as some make it out to be, at least for now. I won't know if it's truly an issue until I get the full version.

My biggest gripe however is using the circle pad. I've heard that people have actually broken their circle pads from treating the 3DS like a GC controller, so I've been taking it easy out of fear of putting too much stress on it. Can anyone tell me if I should be worried about it?

Out of the 5 characters available, I have played Mario the most since he was my main in Brawl. I've tried out Villager and Mega Man and so far I'm iffy on their gameplay, especially Mega Man. I guess I just don't find spacies to be as appealing as close-ranged fighters. Maybe my opinion will change once I play as them more often.

It's a mixed bag with the circle pad. Personally I have no trouble with it... but yeah. A lot of people have broken theirs.

Also I'm not really sure Mega Man is a spacer. He has god like air game so it helps to run up and grab them, or lure them close to you, air throw them and completely fuck them. (his up air tornado is incredible, holy shit) Wood Shield sets up grabs seriously well. The key is knowing how to use his very limited normal attacks to protect yourself is something goes wrong. I love how accurate he plays, since in ANY Mega Man you're up against an opponent way stronger than you and you have to maneuver really carefully as hell to make sure he gets through it using what little he has. That translates pretty great to Smash.

I don't really think Villager is one either honestly, but he's more of one than Mega Man. I play Villager pretty aggressively and his gyroid attack where he literally Strangelove's the damn thing is fucking satisfying.

Awwright, how many idiot memespewing lol so randumb tryhards do you think are gonna main Duck Hunt Dog simply because of who he is?

As for me, I've always played Yoshi.
It's funny because Duck Hunt has been universally viewed as extremely top tier so far. At least they won't get how to play him.

BIG NEWS EVERYONE
Not sure if you heard yet, but hackers found something very interesting in the ROM of Smash 3DS... Specifically... Something they found unused in the character select screen/stage select. Two very special icons that can bring great news.

I've heard about that!

It might just be elements left out of the game (like how Brawl apparently had textures showing battle damage), but it sure does help to fuel speculation for DLC.

Well, Mario Kart 8 had unused icons too. And look what those ended up doing :tomgirl:
That being said, Nintendo needs a reason to sell more Wii U's. As whiny as Sakurai is, he's not fully in charge of this game. There will be incentive towards owning both versions IMO, and they've added DLC to MARIO KART. MARIO KART. They're branching out and adding longevity to their games, so I don't mean this in an assholish way or anything, but I think in this day and age it's naive to think there won't be any additional content whether its timed exclusive, free, paid or Wii U transfer.

I don't mind if Nintendo does DLC, just as long as they don't pull a Capcom or EA and lock away content.

The only thing that bothers me about the Wii U transfer (provided that it's true of course) is that I'd have to get both a Wii U and a copy of the game just to get the additional content. That's just a personal criticism though; I'm trying to save up on money again for next year. I'd imagine they would also make the characters available as free or cheap DLC for those that can't get both versions.

I do like how Nintendo is adding patches to the game. Not only will potential problems be fixed, but additional features can be added to the game to further increase its longevity. Both games by themselves are already filled to the brim with content.

I would not get too pessimistic about that. They want a Wii U sale boom, but they also want money, so I would assume the additional characters would be pay to download if you don't plan on getting the Wii U version. They aren't Capcom thank god, and no one is worse than EA.

I would kind of argue that the 3DS is brimming with content though. No event matches, no target practice, no special matches, Smash Run offline local play only(that'll fucking last), where as the Wii U version will likely have all of these returning features plus more.

As much fun as I'm having with the 3DS demo thanks to our lord @OBAMATRON , this game shouldn't fucking exist. It's only ever hurt the Wii U version, but I'm going to play the shit out of it and buy the Wii U one day one as well...

I don't have a 3DS or a Wii U so could somebody enlighten me to what a yellow and a green square would symbolize? Or did the uploader take down the original images?

It was found on the character/select select screen so its likely that they were left there because in the future through DLC there will be a toggle between a second page of characters and stages.

Ooooh, I get it. Thank you, I was very confused about the significance of a couple of squares.

No problem, if you haven't seen both select screens are almost full, but there is room for those 2 arrows they found. Soooo, the arrows hidden in the files are pretty damn big deals.

I downloaded the demo as well, and I too have some concerns about the circle pad. I noticed that I was jamming on it a bit hard, especially since I use the circle pad/analog stick to jump. I think as long as I'm aware of it and careful, it should be fine, though. In addition, I'll be buying one of the new GC controllers for the Wii U version, assuming that I buy a Wii U.

Same here. I like flipping through the air and making people guess what I'm going to do.

Ok ladies and dudes of all teenages, there is a week and a half before Smash 4 3DS comes out in America. I'll be getting it day one and while I will likely fully migrate to the Wii U version day one as well, I am still going to play the 3DS one from time to time but until then PM me your friend codes if anyone wants mine! Quite early on my part but you know, putting it out there.
