Super Smash Bros.

How long until neckbeards start crying P5 protag made it in (as dlc) but not their loli waifu Ashley?

Give it a week. Considering Snake, Sonic, Cloud, Ryu/Ken and Bayonetta are part of the main cast, Joker really doesn't feel out of place anymore. Honestly after Cloud, Ryu and Bayonetta, any character that originated from a video game seems possible to me.

Is anyone else having trouble with short hopping using the Switch controllers? Every time I hit the jump button, I feel like I'm only able to get it like half of the time.

I'm on the Switch Pro controller and I can't say I've had any problems.

I do have two complaints... loading times and input lag (especially on shields) are a little longer than I would like them to be.

This doesn't bug me so much; the loading times for swapping fighters/Spirit teams does somewhat for me though. I'm fucking spoiled.

That's because they changed shorthopping. It's not something you can achieve by quickly pushing the button anymore. Instead, you need to push the attack and jump button (along with directional input) at the same time to do your shorthop attack. They've also nerfed shorthopping a little so it does something like 3/4ths damage, just because of how little landing lag there is now.

Speaking of, how busted is Bayonetta in this? I’m going to play her regardless because her games are probably top 5 ever for me, but I’d be amazed if they didn’t tone her down. Might try Ken or Ryu too just because my understanding is that they have actual FG inputs, which might give me an edge over the autists and 12-year-olds that are inevitably going to infest the game.
Bayonetta got nerfed hardcore in this game. Her combo game completely sucks now and her KO potential outside her smash attacks are trash. She got neutered hard, which imo is fine.

Somshe’s dogshit or just in line with everyone else? How are Shulk and the Belmonts?

as a casual scrub I assume the Belmonts are going to be considered A or S tier because they’re way, way stronger at range than most other characters to the point where they’re kind of broken against bots who don’t have the sense to stay far away.

At the very least I expect the axe to get nerfed, it’s the one character attack in the game that feels like it may be genuinely broken because it can smash at range and can be spammed towards fights from a distance to farm kills.

Yeah, I was mainly talking about spirits in regards to the loading times, though its also an issue in classic mode. When the matches are all one to two minutes long having to spend such a proportionally high amount of the time not playing the game gets annoying. In multiplayer it's less of an issue because you'll be going for more like 8 to 15 at a time.

Bayonetta is in line with everyone else. She is a bit tough to land good hits with, but she's so fast and impossible to edgeguard. It's less that she's a must-learn and now she's preferential.

Tip for playing as Mister Metokur in full Labo gear Mii Brawler, you can't get rid of his eyes or mouth, but you can make them tiny and hide them behind the nose.

Unfortunately you can make him his pale Irish self, you're very limited in skin tones.

I know it's a meme, but I do see a very good case for Sans to make the cut for DLC. Undertale/Deltarune are still very popular games, and he's easily one of the most iconic characters from a video game in recent years. His fighting style would be pretty easy to implement, being a mostly ranged fighter, and the whole "blue bone" mechanic (it only damages you if you're moving when it contacts, for those that don't know) could actually be very unique considering the meta of how people play Smash these days. It would make him OP, so my one caveat to that is he would have to have a lower weight class than even Jigglypuff, which works into the fact he only has 1 hp and def stats in Undertale.

Just a thought I had.

Tbf sans being low weight makes some level of sense given he has 1 HP in Undertale and what with him being... Yknow a skeleton.

However I think Sans is still an unlikely pick given that Shovel Knight and Shantae being longer running and more renowned indie characters who also didn't make the cut. I also see a lot of the Smash Ultimate DLC roster (even for a potential second season) being bridge builders/promotions for upcoming games or deals (which is why I expect to see Travis, am not counting out Banjo (hello property rights purchase) and expecting to a see a "persona for switch" (both P5 and old titles) announcement by E3) that the Big Boys at Nintendo have planned. Cloud Bayo and Ryu basically opened the floodgates. Basically expect a lot of big fish for the DLC

You raise a very good point. I could definitely see Travis or Banjo making the cut, and maybe even Jack from Madworld (2nd Platinum Games rep, and the game was given decent critical acclaim, I thought Madworld was awful, especially compared to Anarchy Reigns). Hell, at this point I wouldn't be surprised if Minecraft Steve or Master Chief made it in.

I doubt Master Chief, but I could see Steve and Banjo. I know there was since speculation in the lead up to the final reveal because Microsoft and Nintendo were playing nice on Twitter.

While my Bank account might not, I'd kinda like the idea of there being developer packs. Like the main dlc gets smaller studio and first party characters, and we get mini packs with 2-3 full characters, and some music/assist trophies/Mii costumes for more minor characters. A Square pack with Crono, Kefka, and Nier/Dragon warrior, a Microsoft Pack with Steve and Banjo. The roster is already insanely bloated as it is, adding 15 characters isn't that worse.

Considering that Reggie's interview highlighted the fact that Sakurai was a "student of video games" and not just a student of Nintendo games and that he's been thinking "about what type of character coming into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would bring just a whole different level of fun and enjoyment for the player" (seeming to indicate that he's thinking outside the box or otherwise not focused on including a Nintendo character for, say, promotional purposes), I think that most of the choices, if not all of them will be third party choices that offer something different from the average Nintendo character or Smash Fighter.

All of the most likely/logical/popular Nintendo choices have already been deconfirmed as assist trophies or probably would have been in Smash as fighters, with only a few that I could see justifying an entire content pack. Considering that the packs include a character, music, and stage, I also think that points to adding characters from a universe that isn't represented yet, and not just increasing the representation for an already existing a universe. I don't discount a minor universe possibly getting promoted to being a major one, but once again, we have to consider which characters are more likely to sell DLC on their own, which means we should look to popular characters and away from lesser known or older franchises, which, at this point, comprises most of the possible choices from Nintendo themselves.

It also means that characters like Sans are far down this list, being an indie game, while characters from major AAA franchises, especially from companies already involved in Smash are more likely. Ubisoft? Likely, since Rayman is already represented. Activision? Less likely, but not impossible. Microsoft? Not necessarily a pipe dream, but the fact that the two companies are still (technically) corporate rivals may preclude that, and if it happens, Banjo and Kazooie have a better chance than Minecraft Steve. Sony? Nigga, what are you smoking?
