The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled against race-conscious programs at universities, handing a win to a group that argued that the institutions shouldn’t consider race in evaluating applications for admission.

The high court, which has a conservative majority, had been expected to return a decision that wasn’t favorable for affirmative action.

The admissions programs at Harvard and the University of North Carolina that the court considered “cannot be reconciled with the guarantees of the Equal Protection Clause,” wrote Chief Justice John Roberts in the majority’s opinion, referring to a key clause in the U.S. Constitution.

“Both programs lack sufficiently focused and measurable objectives warranting the use of race, unavoidably employ race in a negative manner, involve racial stereotyping, and lack meaningful end points. We have never permitted admissions programs to work in that way, and we will not do so today.”

He was joined in the opinion by Justices Samuel Alito, Amy Coney Barrett, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas.

People in favor of affirmative action are pretty shameless about it. Problem is they've gotten so used to this idea of "systemic privilege" and random CRT buzzwords they don't feel the slightest bit bothered about being called racist for a lot of their views.

It probably doesn't help that school administrations don't exactly face a major downside by favoring admissions of blacks. If it was a business it'd affect the bottom line, for a school it just means they get some tuition for a student that flunks out or who gets given a pass by teachers so they can move on to being a diversity hire like Obama implies he was. Whatever merit a student has is irrelevant as to whether the school keeps collecting donations, gets grants, or gets the students' tuition (or the race statistics even act as a selling point).

Realistically it isn't happening, no matter what the supreme court has to say about it. They're not going to stop mandating race based selections the way they were before, they just won't admit to it. They got rid of the SAT being a requirement a couple years ago as the numerical score was holding Blacks back and was a metric to measure discrimination.

The universities will probably move to the top 10% of all high schools or something.

While less objectionable, that has its own consequences:

Texas has been top 10% admit to public colleges (now top 7% due to population increase) for a long time now. However, way too many high schools simply don't teach anything anymore and teenagers are just indoctrinated.
