It's not too strange, internet activism costs nothing and rewards dopamine. Plenty of garbage groups and people have large followings due to being woke, but low actual engagement and even lower financial support. I'm convinced the people who sneer 'your hobby is getting popular, why are you mad' are the types who got kicked out of groups for being insufferable. Something gaining mainstream popularity virtually always correlates with an unrecoverable decline in quality. GW might have plenty of shitty business practices, but I really hope they love money more than politics.

I wish I had more stories to share but unlike you brave nerds I was wily enough to stay away from the smelly corner.

His books are banned from being shared around the various places where you share things because he is so sue happy and promoting his shit. He once went into 7chan and actively tried to shut down the rpg share thread as well as promote his own book on drivethrurpg. As soo as I start to hear Zweihandjobber my brain shuts off and I tell them their game sucks and talk about something else.

Another LOLcow god tier grifter is Ken Whitman (he played in a Gary Gygax game and he did some writing on a book) who rode off into the sunset with a few hundred thousand dollars on kickstarter by using Knights of the Dinner Table telling people he'd make a movie about it. This was early days of Kickstarter so the rules were wide open to be exploited. His sorrid tale involves DMCA take downs, Pro se lawsuits, and cameo's in walking dead movies.

Yeah, there was a lot of people who were mad about being docked victory points, I noticed at least in my local area that a lot of the gamers who were pissed were ones that constantly flip flopped armies. There were also some that I know that just don’t like painting and others that had horde armies. I still have some memes saved from that time. Lol. I posted one of them in the Warhammer is for Everyone section.

Yeah and a lot of the slactivists, especially the left wing anarchists, are more likely to pirate everything, buy 3rd party replacements, 3-D print everything, and then demand that GW cater to their every whim.

Bit of a personal story, but fits the thread by discussing about playing against a win-at-all-costs guy and turning the tables on him.

Some time ago, I took part in a friendly 40k apocalypse game. No strict points values, just show up with as much as you want. The WAAC guy gets wind of it and decides to bring what I can describe as a Knight Household and a Titan Legion. About like 4-5 Titans of varying sizes (no warlords), and dozens of knights, including Forge World variants. This guy wanted to win, not to have fun. So the person in charge of the game decided to give this guy a taste of his own medicine. He called up some of the player that hadn't arrived and asked them to bring their full armies, not just what they wanted to bring. Pretty soon the WAAC guy was facing down a full tyranid swarm, an armored Imperial Guard brigade, a formation of eldar titans, several groups of knights, and pretty much everybody else.

After the several hours that was the first turn, the WAAC guy still stood strong, but I guess he started to sense that he was being fucked with. About mid-way through second turn, we took a lunch break, but by the time we came back, the WAAC guy packed up and left.

Anyone else have any similar stories?

I never understood these people, since they're not exclusive to tabletop gaming. Losing can be fun too, it's not like your figures disintegrate on a loss or you die in real life.

What blows my mind about his sue happy attitude is his game just 2nd ed warhammer roleplay with very slight variation on the names.

4th edition warhammer.
Gamesworkshop store back in the mid 90's, their was this 20ish powergamer who decided to square off his warrior of chaos rape train against some 12 year all olds orcs and goblin shit heap of an army, everyones hates this guy and he's not going to pull any punches with the kid. Chaos lord of khorne and his retinue of Khornate knights backed up by banner of bullshit (mark of khorne was really broken n the period) charges shitty Gobbo spear unit, kid doesnt know how to play competative so goblins are actually quite well kitted out for cannon fodder, shields, music guy, banners and an hero or champion with an actual anti armour magic item. Combat goes spectaculary bad for the chaos boys and they kill 2 gobbo'.s Goblins by contrast manage to kill to 3 chaos thanks to spears and Goblin champions armour piercing magic weapon. Once numbers and rank bonus are added up the chaos knight loose, fail moral test then roles double one his rout role. Gobbos then overun and wipe his big bad unit out. loss of the general causes the big beastmen anchor unit to rout and that gets wiped by the kids warboar pack. What people often forget about Warhammer Chaos armies is they're very expensive, small and can't afford to loose units. Game is now a total rout as badly painted Azhag and co proceed to shit all over what's left of his army which has too few numbers to avoid being constantly flanked or swamped by angry green idiots. even his tzeech wizard is fucked because jnr has more magic on the field due to orc cheapness and azhags party hat.
After the massacre powergamer turns pale, refuses to shake the kids hand and walks out the store for a smoke. I didnt see it but his mates swear he started crying. The kid naturally has the time of his life when everybody started losing their shit.

To be fair it’s be nice to have some female guard but Victorian miniatures have filled in the niche of obscure Guard regiments and models. I hate his tone though. I suspect he’d still find something to whine about even if GW magically met his demands overnight.

Space marines get ground up just as hard as sisters(depending on the chapter), If they wanted to be mary sues, they should demand female custodes.

Though in all seriousness, I would like gendered bases for the armies in which gender does matter. Just to very it up. Like female tech priest, guards, etc. Id also like ethnic heads to very that up. But no, selling bits is out of the question if it isnt a space marine shoulderpad.

Sisters are finally in plastic too. That was a major reason why some people didn’t like sisters initially since metal was more expensive, more annoying to build, and chipped easier. I have a small kill team that I’ve expanded into a small army now that plastic is out. They do play differently for sure but imo that makes them more fun.

Some are mad that the marines have better stats and just want to whine for political points. Some are trolls who like to stir the pot. Others do it for competitive reasons: I know a guy who intentionally would make some of his marines female to piss people off at tournaments to get a psychological edge. It was a while ago but it wouldn’t surprise me if he was still doing it.

I don’t mind if someone is doing it because they think it looks cool. However it’s a red flag if they’re doing it for upboats.

Same, especially for guard and the mechanicum. Before Victorian Miniatures were well known, female guard sculpts were sometimes used as a scam or done very poorly.

More head options would be nice too, even for marines.

Good actually, also incredibly stupid and ignorant question. Admittedly I have some bias against the lame answers because the word fascism has become synonymous with certain politics.

I saw many fauxfans gushing that GWs statement was 'different' from every other hollow corporate bullshit, and was necessary because the fandom is filled with fascists. More evidence nobody wanted to play with them to have such a hateful view of the fandom they appropriate.

These types would honestly not be a problem if they just made their own fluff/groups and maybe learned to separate from reality a little bit, although I'm not sure this can be taught after a certain age. Just relax and have fun. They also actually think they're morally and intellectually superior which is... sad. I would 100% not mind playing with someone who modded their minis into females just for their horny aesthetic, but it seems more likely they do it to be smug. If a neckbeard does have a meltdown then they can be regarded as an outlier instead of going full tilt into thinking there's a huge mysoginistic problem in 40k.

Maybe I don't want female Marines because I like my battle barges full of ultraviolent and emotionally unstable manbear hybrids with repressed sexual aggression. Do they have a problem with my party boat?
