Tabletop Roleplaying Games (D&D, Pathfinder, CoC, ETC.)

This. A few buddies in the local community was discussing Malifaux's character designs and we got on the subject of their female models. One of the girls piped up, saying she wanted to be a hot chick in a game, not a short pudgy gal. We all agreed we wanted our characters to be sexier than us.

Which gets to a strange fundamental contrast between what I would class as "normal" thinking, and SJW thinking.

SJW thinking doesn't work that way. They want everyone and everything to be ugly, and to glory in that ugliness. Look at any SJW art... Validate, Sword Lesbians, anything Cal Arts-y. You can't have any character that's outright good looking, and even "average looking" characters are usually given freckles, or a terrible haircut, or something. Nobody is ever conventionally attractive - short, pudgy-to-morbidly-obese, gap-toothed, disproportionate, masculine women and feminine men, general androgyny, horrific fashion sense, wild hair cuts and hair colors, you name it.

Why push yourself up when you can simply drag everyone else down?

Either that, or they seriously don't get how basic social skills and style work.

You're never getting it. That or Greyhawk. I'm just hoping some likeminded people redoes them independently of WOTC and sticks it to them.
I don't follow RPG drama/history. What's WOTC got against Greyhawk and Dragon Lance?

Are you ready for a game about Honor, Power, and Toxic Masculinity?
Blood Feud is a game about toxic masculinity: certain common attitudes and behaviors among men, that cause great harm to them and to others around them. This is a game about people being nasty to each other and about figuring out why.

It’s also a game about vikings of pre-christian Scandinavia; about honor and blood feuds, courage and brutality, corruption and consequences. Above all it is a game about what it means to be a man in such a world—and what consequences that has on the communities they live in.

The goal of the game is to explore and experience toxic masculinity, while at the same time creating a thoughtful drama about relationships, competition and social consequences. With this game we want to make toxic masculinity easier to spot for a wider variety of people in our roleplaying communities—and encourage critical discussions about how men behave, and why.

Playing the Game

The central theme of this game is power—specifically the power of men: How you earn it, what you have to do to keep it, and most importantly what you do with it.

To make power visible, we use a currency called Honor Tokens. Throughout the game these tokens will get moved around between the players as their main characters interact with each other—depending on how “manly” or “honorable” their actions are.

Since there is no Game Master, all players must pay attention to the seven Moves that cause honor to shift. In this way, every player has to learn to recognize what causes the power structures to change.

The seven moves are:

  • Sharing someone’s bed
  • Giving someone a gift
  • Commenting on a woman’s appearance
  • Praising someone
  • Insulting someone
  • Escalating
  • Striking a deadly blow
Apart from moves, the game uses a concept called Narrative Freedom to handle questions of narrative authority. This means that every player has equal say in describing the fictional world and what happens in it—up until a move is triggered. Players may interrupt each others’ narration, but only to do one of two things: making an addendum or adding an obstacle.

  • An addendum is an extra detail added to what was just said.
  • An obstacle is a roadblock that explains why something that was about to happen, didn’t happen.
Addendums and obstacles allow for playing out scenes in an improv style, instead of using traditional resolution tools such as dice or cards.

There are also mechanics in place that deal specifically with the role of women in the game. The first one: there must always be at least one woman present in every scene. When the last woman in a scene leaves, the scene simply ends. We are only interested in what happens publicly when looking at honor, so what happens when women are not watching doesn’t count..

Secondly, at the end of each scene, the players who played women must decide which of the men in the scene was the least manly. That man loses one honor token. Hence, the men must always compete for the attention of the women and their implicit approval.

I know it goes without saying but the reason for the prevalance pre-modern blood feuds and honour based stuff has bugger all to do with toxic masculinity or because you're worried what the women think (because you often don't). The reason you caved your neighbors head in when he called his bitch is because you're living in a highly decentralized society where the civil authority is a shitshow, law is minimal and worst of all zero room for error in terms of resoarces. So to not be seen as honerable and strong is to draw a bullseye on your back.

>No GM

What is with these retards and not having or wanting arbitration. Holy shit, 95% of all horrible RPGs have weak or NO gm'ing and are run by these stereotypes. All whinging fluff, no crunch to bolster or decide ANYTHING.

The 5% that don't have this problems are either angry greybeards who think they can make DnD or The Dark Eye for the new age, and get those fucking casuals out of the hobby. Or they're rapey sex perverts who inflict their fetishes upon an unsuspecting audience.

Well, they don't want arbitration in real life. Honestly, improv games can be fun with creative people that agree upon a scenario. The people that would buy that schlock are not creative people, and it's likely most won't have a scenario in mind, The real question: would I join one of those games just to do some stupid bullshit like give myself random superpowers just to piss off the Super Serious SJWs who buy this shit and think it's a character study? Yes. Yes I would.

Hahahahahaha! You're going to attack a nerd sacred cow like vikings looking like that? Oh man, I would totally steal these dude's lunch money just to make a point!

One of the things which strikes me is how often people demands their pc be really good looking or at least striking/distinctive unless you're deliberatly playing an uggo. Despite the increased fixation on 'diversity' the truth most people tend to want to play an character who is awesome not some homely tumblr chick. Someone wants massive tits? Go nuts, as long as I don't have to run the sex.
I honestly cannot fathom making a character that is not at least somewhat attractive in some form. My men have to be strong and dashing, and my women buxom and beautiful. Even if the char is a scarred barbarian with a gut, they'd still have to carry their weight with style rather than be a dumpy fatso.

I've deliberatly played outright hideous characters but it's part of the persona . I've even played characterer who looked deliberatly bland. But if I'm doing it, it's for a reason for example I've played a Marv/Omar style guy for about 5 years now, naturally his face looks like bulldog licking piss of a thistle and his body looks like he's been run over multiple times while wrapped in barb wire. a guy I know once played an hedonistic arabian night style wizard and part of the concept he was an absolute unit.
But the thing is these sort of guys still have a distinct look, concept and style which is something these tumblr sword lesbians types completly lack. Wereas they're just a homely fat chicks with bad aethetics for some creepy fetish ironically

Hell, I've played everything from a dim witted half-ogre whose best trait was his simple-minded loyalty (albeit being dumber than a bag of horseshit) to a sorcerer whose charisma was cranked so high he went around robed and veiled like a woman in Saudi Arabia because he hated the attention he drew (the guy had a base Charisma of 24 and wore one of those +6 headbands). I'm playing a combat cyborg with a weird Old West/monastic theme (which fits with the group, especially the guy who's riding a fuckin' dinosaur as a mount).

Here's the thing: adventurers spend 90% of their time engaged in exercise. Most of the time they eat once or twice a day, walk from dungeon to dungeon and engage in combat for hours at a time, which is one of the most physically taxing things you can do. Even our dear wizard friends engage in massive amounts of cardio. Riding horses? I don't think people appreciate how physically taxing a ride over rough country can be, especially if you're actually controlling the horse and shifting your weight constantly. Sure, it's possible to hire a cart but peasants aren't going to take you through the caves of Mount Deathskull so you can take on Lord Megadoom, Master of All Villainy at the top of his citadel (which has 15 floors and no elevators). So at the very least, and adventurer would be physically fit if nothing else. Being ugly? Yeah sure, go nuts. Frontline fighters likely have broken noses and teeth if not parts of their heads just outright gone, many adventurers are likely former peasants looking for a get rich quick scheme or actual mercenaries wanting a paycheck (so commoners), and former academics could be pizza faced nerds. But if you want to be pretty, who cares?

It's because their aesthetics are rooted in the elevation of mediocrity. When you make something unapologetically ugly with a history, personality, desires, and goals, it stands out. It is what it is and has definition. This is the exact opposite of their fluorescent shapeless bean mouth potato people that will never look beautiful. They are so far up their own asses that they cannot grok that their aesthetic is built upon soulless and mediocre corporate "art".

The problem with SJWs making ugly characters is that everybody in their world is fuck-ugly. So being "ugly" loses all its meaning. The character has to stand on its personality, backstory and roleplay, and... well, we all know these idiots have no idea how to make a character actually interesting. And even when they trip backwards and land on an interesting character concept, they can play it worth a damn.

I would almost say Ars Magica is an exception, since any competent wizard either teleports everywhere or has an entourage of servants to do all the heavy work, lives a life of extreme luxury compared to everyone except highest nobility and one of the basic setting ideas is that the Gift for magic inspires immediate revulsion and distrust in other creatures. Plus the ideal Ars Magica endgame is either solving the adventure without leaving the lab or within 10 days so that you don't lose labtime.

But even there wizards need to be physically fit, since the Stamina stat contributes to spellcasting rolls and they can still use social stats for interacting with other wizards and teaching/writing books. That applies even to the mystery cult of magical craftsmen who ritually mutilate themselves to emulate Vulcan. And there's multiple virtues and flaws that can deal with being attractive if you want the character's looks to have mechanical effects including one which states that the character is so beautiful random wandering knights show up to save them from trouble.
