While I can believe takashi genuinely does feel betrayed, maybe it's time to realize that being an Internet tough guy isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Well yes, the minumum wage not being a living wage is a concern that people have pointed out, but it went right over his head that Satsuki does not live alone and does not have to provide food transportation and housing for herself with no external help

Jobs in retail that don't require you to handle money for customers:
bagger, cart wrangler, daytime stocker, overnight stocker, errand person, janitor/department cleanup, greeter, phone operator, price tagger
all entry level positions, too. and all jobs that most retail outlets assign to their most mentally and physically deficient personnel because it's far less effort and stress than being a cashier.
Hypothesis: IF she does actually have a SSI hearing, they are trying to go for the full disability rather than partial, and are going to attempt to claim she is incompetent and cannot work.

In order to fully pull this off, they will need records dating back at the very least 6 months from when they first filed, and continued medical records throughout the entire waiting period showing where doctors have officially stated she is unable to work even the most menial and pointless of jobs. They will also need, since she is going for mental deficiency mostly, paperwork from a psychiatrist stating similar or same. Additionally, these are out of pocket costs that get reimbursed ONLY if she is approved for SSI - meaning the back payment check is intended to be used to cover the accumulated debts of Veronica that are a direct result of the process and NOT the debts of her mother outside of what it costs to get all the papers and things in order (meaning it's intended use is to cover the debts her mother gained from getting her daughter all the necessary care in order to be eligible rather than, oh I don't know, her mom's car payments or rent, etc). Anything left over from paying off THAT is considered money that belongs free and clear to Veronica. Depending on how they go about getting her approved, she may or may not have a Representative Payee. This would most likely be her mother. No matter who the payee is, they are required to fill out a form every year accounting for how every last penny was spent. I do not joke about this. Every. Single. Penny. Depending on how this form is filled out, they may put her case immediately into review. (I've had this happen by accident. I misunderstood a question on the form.) After which they may decide to adjust the payment - usually lower rather than higher.
For 2016 the Federal payment is $733, with states paying more if the standard of living is higher (example: New York in 2015 There was a standard of living freeze on SSI in 2015, which carried over into 2016. At the end of this year however, the freeze is lifted to an increase in the federal payment to $735, with states supplementing the rest in states where the standard of living is much higher than the federal SSI payment.)
So, what comes from all of this? 1) The longer the process goes on before being approved, the bigger the backpay check (generally but not always). 2) even with SSI, and with the state supplement behind it, at MOST she will still bring in around $750 (based on 2015/2016 SSI payment schedule) a month, and depending on how they filled out the paperwork far less than that. See, "Living with others" category applies when you still live at home and your name is not on ANY of the major household bills (the big ones are Rent/Mortgage, Utilities, and Car Payments). So unless her mom is willing to put most of the bills in her daughter's name, there's a chance Veronica may only bring in around $500-$525 a month (again based on 2015/2016 SSI payment schedule). This is FAR BELOW the minimum amount she cited in her spreadsheet of $600-something.
Added note: the standard of living state supplement is NOT based on what part of the state a person lives in, just that they live in that state at all. Veronica and her family live in the one place in New York where the standard of living is the highest - so pretty much all a SSI payment is going to do is add a drop of piss into an ocean of debt and not really be that effective. Whereas if she had a job, she would have the opportunity to work overtime and make as much money as she possibly could, as well as having the opportunity for advancement to higher paying positions within the company, or if she wanted take on a second job for even more money. With SSI you have to be extremely careful to keep track of every single penny (or at least lie about it realistically on the paperwork so as not to arouse suspicion and flag your case), report any and all major changes within 10 days (such as if she ever moves out or gets married or whatever) and THEN if she ever DOES end up with someone and married, ensure that her spouse doesn't make so much that it causes her monthly payment to be decreased.

Exactly... I really don't see anyone's mother expecting their twenty year old daughter who has no job or any source of income (outside of e-begging, which iirc her mom wasn't happy about that and wanted her to stop doing it) to give them $861 every month, even if money is tight. I don't know much about her mom, but I don't see any parent doing that.

So assuming this other person paid for the comission, that still doesn't absolve Veronica of giving it out to minors in the Skype chat. See, that in and of itself, i forget the exact statutes and such for federal as well as new york state itself, is enough to get her arrested with a misdomener of contributing to the delinquency of a minor as well as giving materials of a pornographic nature to minors (knew a guy that got locked up for this exact thing - and yes, it was mlp porn). since it would likely be a misdomener, she'd get a 1-2 year sentence, but it would be cut down to approx 6mnths or less with likely a year probation. this is, of course, assuming the lighter version of typical sentencing for this stuff due to it being a first offense.

As for distributing the porn to minors, I know it's definitely a misdemeanor in New York but I'm not sure about the punishment for it exactly.

I know it's enough that, if you don't have a good lawyer, could end up getting a person put on the national sex offender registry. As for the punishment, my guesswork is based on, admittedly, Georgia (which is more lenient) and Texas (which is highly strict). However, I'm also taking into account her being a first offender. If she were to be busted on it, she likely could end up not serving any jail time, and getting "diversion" (if she has a good lawyer that is). My hypothetical is based on an average between 2 extremes (the lenient GA sentencing and the harsher Texas sentencing) in order to get a "this is typically what you can expect" sort of thing.

That would actually be less bad, if more pathetic. The real problem here is that this con artist swindled people out of money supposedly for necessities and then spent it on porn instead. If someone actually voluntarily donated specifically to buy porn, nobody would be ripped off.
