I tried Taskmaster NZ by jumping into Season 5 under the assumption it would have had the most amount of chemistry between the taskmaster and his assistant.
I think the tasks are really good, by virtue of them having a seemingly higher budget, longer time and larger house to work with and it's my favorite part of the show and the reason why I'll probably keep up with it. Paul too is just as cheeky as Alex while being able to do his own thing and he's great fun to watch.
The in-studio work is extremely lacking since I think Paul is the only one who's a comedian, the rest are extremely low energy and especially the taskmaster himself, the man brings the energy of a news presenter doing a short segment on the show. The man's barely interested and his scoring makes no sense and feeds into this idea that he's only really there because they need someone formal looking to look like the taskmaster. I never thought I'd actually care for the scores in taskmaster but when they're so random and nonsensical it really does take away from the whole thing.
The cast of that season is mixed, the autist is funny whenever she isn't bringing up her autism or trying to be "cool", the jock is... eh, the purple haired chick goes between unremarkable to annoying and all the subtitutes they get in for the fat Maori guy(who I suspect was less ill and more just too lazy to bother showing up in the studio) are either not really there or seem like extremely vile and unfunny people(the one who showed up for the first two episodes was so offputting in what little moments she spoke up I'm probably never touching season 1) and the last one I have no impression of outside of him possibly being gay
In the studio they all feel too awkward and it reminds me of the less enjoyable seasons of the main show, the ones where no one actually speaks up during the studio parts or attempt to give and take with Greg/Alex and they just sit there and look smug for the applause.
Also having them occasionally bring up piracy while I actually pirated the episodes was a bit funny.
