None of these journos have been banned yet. They've been suspended, then gotten their accounts back. I'm tired of the handwringing about free speech when they're not being kicked off the platform. Remember, they started the exodus to other sites rather than being kicked off Twitter so they had to leave, as can be shown by how none of them stuck it out and 98% of them primarily stayed where they were after the initial tantrum.
Sure, be more obvious about the suspension reasons - though so far there are clear rule violations that all the journos did that aren't just, 'Annoyed Elon,' despite their claims otherwise. They're lying, disingenuous sacks of shit, and whether it's linking to a real- time tracker that was prohibited, or a reminder of old tweets where they doxed someone, they broke rules. You can say the rules should change, but lots of things are changing at Twitter right now, rapidly and with limited success, and everybody seems to think that means what they want to happen should be the priority and should have happened yesterday.
The internet has broken people's sense of time if a one-day suspension is a massacre and the potential of a week's suspension is the same as a lifetime ban. And frankly, considering how gleeful these people were about trying, and often succeeding, in actually getting people permanently banned, not just from Twitter but many other platforms, especially payment processors and CloudFlare, I think it's bullshit to treat their temporary loss of access to the blue bird app as some kind of censorship.
Personally, when it comes to not liking what you have to say but defending to the death your right to say it, I feel like you lose those privileges when you decide to appoint yourself the morality police over all speech and relentlessly pursue censorship for your own purposes. We're not all playing by the same rules, so the censorious getting a time out is them being held to the standards they've tried to impose on us.
You can ding Musk for capricious banning with Kanye, for example, but suspending all these journos isn't morally inconsistent - that's their lying version of events. Just because I support free speech doesn't mean I have to feel bad for liars finally not getting special treatment to silence their opponents and break rules others had to follow on their chosen internet platform.
Fuck them. And fuck Taylor Lorenz specifically, for being the personification of journalism as mean girl crybullying and destructive sophistry. May her bullshit continue to come home to roost.
