Like a beaten housewife I will return and give it another go with the anniversary / S3 balance patch. It's going to be shit, but that's ok.
 
let me know if its worth it, havent played since the last kiwifarms dojo friendlys
Still a month away, but I will try it for myself, even if it is a repeat of Season 2.
Started playing a couple of matches here and there, maybe I can get higher than Mighty Ruler before the patch drops.

Despite the issues that I can identify and those I can't, I am starting to really appreciate the underlying systems of Tekken. I have only a small list of complaints that I do hope get addressed in less than two weeks when the patch drops.
They did one announcement to temper expectations. System-wide, I believe the major changes are:
  • Heatsmashes no longer wallsplat
  • Installs expire when you run out of heat (like Bryan loses snake eyes when heat is spent)
I don't think anything else major system-wide. So it really depends on character changes.

Yeah, I know which is really confusing because I don't know what they have been doing for months now if the Season 3 patch will be smaller compared to Season 2. There are things I would like to be changed but know they won't touch them (improvements to netcode, forced benchmark, combo length) but there are things that I still hope will be part of the new Season. Nerfs to damage across the board will maybe be a result of the character changes. No idea if it will happen but the range of Heat and Rage really need to be toned down. Fixes and adjustments to tracking and hurtboxes.

Worst of all this the notion that they will patch the game on a regular basis because I know that won't happen, GGST didn't manage that, SF6 made that promise and broke it immediately, and I don't expect that to change with Tekken.

It's starting to get to the point where I really need to lab. Running into Eddy for example just means two losses in a row. And my own offense is lacking same as squeezing out as much damage as I can during a combo. Might continue or just wait until the patch.
just quit out at the first win. no need them to body you two more matches

Damage I think is fine, at least in a vacuum. Problem is you easily get plenty more with wall, and every character has good wall carry. Combo length definitely needs to be shortened, but I doubt they will. Rage is annoying, but as of right now can't really be removed since its one of the few defensive mechanics. Heat burst definitely has a bit much range, though it is at least linear. I do hope they nerf heat moves of course.

Character weakness definitely needs to be considered, because there are a bunch I'm not too sure what their weakness is besides "not the strongest at X."

There are definitely tax characters IMO. Jin is the one I run into the most who I suck against, but Eddy/Jack/Leo are up there too.

Damage-wise is probably just BnB and wall combo. I will say I know Azu has some mean wall setups for oki. Labbing depends a bit: you could definitely see about strings with highs and such, but I wouldn't be practicing punishing when frame data is something up to change. For example, I wouldn't be surprised if they made Jin's 2,1,4 or Feng's B4 safe again, because of the stink those players probably made.

I don't normally, but I will say its extremely satisfying to winquit against someone who cancelled on you.
I get what you are saying, there are cases where I quit after one match because there is no point in playing. But I don't want to make it a bad habit. I still think common courtesy dictates to play all matches.
It depends on if you are trying to get better or trying to have fun, which honestly feel mutually exclusive sometimes. Getting better is pretty satisfying, but I can't fault anyone for trying to enjoy a video game, especially when they are probably having more fun.


As for the community side, Joe Budden has been streaming plenty money matches. It is a bit grift-y (there has been crowdfunded money-matches for example) but it can be entertaining.

They would have to make sure that different combos serve different purposes either damage, carry or oki. But I doubt that will happen. Rage is fine but same as with Heat smash I think the range is just too much. Same with tracking on both.

I think it is a big issue at the moment because a lot of character feel like they don't have any weaknesses or distinct differences when everyone is doing 50/50 stance mixups and 20 sec combos.

For me its lack of character knowledge. And as for offense I have issues trying to bait the opponents into making mistakes when I need to go on the offense because of a life deficit. But you are right learning too much right now makes no sense.

That is the big problem which often comes down to the opponent. Lately I started to run into three kinds of people:

Cleary better than me and just trying to get to a higher rank. So I get washed and they move on. Which is fine I guess.
Cleary better but take their time trying to teach me something by repeatedly doing certain move to see if I can adapt. Also let me win a match so we can go for three games. Sometimes I do ok, and it comes down to the wire in the last round.
And last but not the least cunts who like to beat up weaker players. So it's just a cavalcade of obnoxious strings, and then they start to taunt, tbag and just stop playing and so on. Could be much higher in rank but choose not to.

D1 into mixup. D1 clips evasive stuff, ch launches and it's +4 ob, frame trap mashers with ws1 til they respect it and then use ws3 or ws4,1 for lib plus frames or use an fc mixup with fc 3 or 4. That flowchart is a free Tekken King right there.

I have been using D1+ws1 and fc 4 into LIB pressure quite a bit. Have to incorporate ws3 and 4,1 + fc 3 a bit more. Not sure if is will carry me into Tekken King though.

It will haha, I got Azu there by abusing that mixup. I'd also recommend using db3 a lot as you can make it sorta safe by using the bt mid parry and even launch people for punishing you correctly. Top 3 lows in the game imo. Getting a feel for the transitions from neutral to bt to lib is also important as Azu doesn't have crazy plus frames in neutral like other characters, +3, +4 at most usually, so her pressure comes from her stance shenanigans (I miss season 1's uncucked wr 3,2). Most Azu players I've seen just poke around and try to get a whiff punish til they can get into the stance game, usually by using uf3+4 into lib, d1 into fc into lib, or db3 into bt into lib, etc. Oh and don't forget combo ending with lib d3 into an unscaled guaranteed fc 3 or 4 on the wall. It's really good and puts people on the stance blender so use it before they nuke it on S3.

Either you are downplaying your general qualities as a player or you somehow managed to run into some very special people. Out of curiosity I tried to focus more on what you mentioned, but nobody is really falling for any shenanigans. Or I am just unlucky.

On a sidenote I managed to play against someone running an actual input script going through the same motions. Watching the replay was quite hilarious.

I doubt it tbh, at this point of time Season 2 TK is the equivalent of a Season 1 Fujin imo. Rank inflation and all of that, I got TK on S1 and I'm stuck at TG right now, I'm not that great of a player and just know my main (Kaz) and vague general stuff on like half of the roster, point being TK is not that hard to get nowadays if you know a couple of flow charts so that you can loop pressure and never let people start their bs. TG+ is when you'll really need to learn every matchup cuz people there get turbo sweaty.
Anyhow, just keep grinding bro, you'll rank up like crazy once you get a feel for your character's flow.
