to be fair it's gm they havent made a good car in like forever
All their normie cars are utter shit aesthetically and mechanically. At least the sports cars they make are decent. From a quick perusal of their respective forums, people seem pretty happy with the C7 vette and current gen Camaro and its LT1 and LT4 v8s.

Maybe it's all an act and Hoovie is just faking it for the drama. Can never tell these days with these youtubers.
There's a reason he calls it the dumbest car channel on all of youtube.

The previous vid on the Lightning is a hoot, though. He went through all the stages of grief within ten minutes of starting his tow with the empty trailer. He copes a little with "better batteries in the future" and "most people don't tow", but it was a valid real-world test of the truck and it completely failed.

1. Brakes and rotors (and suspension) are equivalent for ICE and EV. No points there.
I think his idea is that EVs can use regenerative braking, so brakes get less use since the motor itself is providing a braking force to some degree. You kinda have to adapt your deceleration habits, apparently, but if done properly you can avoid using the physical brakes quite a bit, or so I've heard.

I wished there were properly minimalist EVs. Modern ICEs, even cheap compacts, are already stuffed with too many doodads and gadgets (unless you wanna go seriously low budget chinkmobile), and EVs are usually worse. Fuck computer screens, bring back simple gauges or at most LED displays if you must. Use the minimum amount of electronics, battery and motor controllers, and some required sensors. And bring back cassettes for the car radio.

Apparently, electric cars spontaneously combust if flooded:

There is no putting them out quickly and safely. You have to flood the car with enough water to keep the individual cells from cooking off. Since they are just giant slabs, the water misses some, they cook off and the process starts all over again. Even if it's put out, you've now got to deal with a giant metal frame that could carry enough current to electrocute you if there's a big enough short.

Having little to no market share whatsoever, going fast on those things next to other larger vehicles in traffic sounds like a deathtrap, considering the lack of noise to warn others that there's a motorcycle passing by.
I wonder if for the noise reason we'll have mandated engine noise made by speakers on evs, at least while in urban areas.
This guy made a very impressive program himself that's able to emulate a general range of engine's noise with their actual physics simulated, so it's not like you'd be forced to use some canned sound that isn't convincing. Weird times.

Who is going to be the first 'tuner' to have a CD synced to their gas pedal so they can still enjoy V8 sounds?
As above, it probably won't even be that basic. You could have a dynamic simulation of the engine you want to hear out of your vehicle, even if it doesn't make any sense like a v8 on a dirtbike.
BMW started this trend in the way you say as far as I can tell, by the way. The first models came out in 2013, not sure if they were doing it then.

I believe the trend started with the VW Golf GTI and Jetta GLIs from the 2011 model year. Others followed suit.

I can understand it on an electric/hybrid, why was a regular compact car doing this in 2011 before the ev meme really started gaining traction? Both of those models are ICEs?

They had pretty quiet, high-pitched engines and VW wanted them to sound more grunty and bangy, like a sports car. They also started putting active sound simulation inside the car for the same reason, piped through the sound system, because apparently people want to pretend that they're driving a rumbly V8.

The GTI and GLI are the respective sport trims of the Golf and Jetta. Before the Golf R, the GTI was the fastest Golf you could buy and that of course led to mainly younger guys and gay metrosexuals to purchase them. To make it sportier, I'm guessing VAG decided to that fake sound nonsense. The EA888 mk1 CCZB engine is the first of the EA888 family I believe and VAG used 2 counterweights on the crankshaft so overall it's super smooth for a 4 banger. It's also turboed so exhaust notes are muted resulting in a generally quieter car. Compared to a Mustang SN197 V8 of the same year, the sporty GTI in stock form was as quiet as an EV. So yeah the fake engine cabin sounds ironically compensate for the good engineering.

Is there any way to turn this autistic shit off in these vehicles without unwiring the speakers yourself?
It depends on the car. In some cars there's an option in the infotainment to turn the feature off. Others you may have to remove a fuse or dig into the electrical diagrams.

Some cars actually do the sound augmentation properly. The first gen FRS/86/BRZ actually pipes real engine sounds into the cabin via sound pipes. In that car you hear the engine, not some sound through the speakers.

Note that the brake lights were on the entire time yet the Tesla continued to accelerate. If that doesn't encapsulate how much control you have in a "car" that's an Internet-connected shitbox little more than a glorified computer on wheels, I don't know what does.

The tweet was deleted within a couple hours and I had to archive it from the Wayback Machine (thankfully someone downloaded the video and reposted it). Many speculate it was deleted due to Musk owning twitter.
