exactly outside of first hand knowledge and an honest sharing of his experiences i wouldn't trust his evaluation of what is "fun" or a "good idea" he's the auto equivalent of someone into bestiality.
If it wasn't fun there wouldn't be an entire yearly charity car rallying event focused on driving from Poland to some other city and country ~2500km away from the start.

The thrill of driving a socialist shitbox is fun for many people that don't fuck horses since that's what you're implying.

I'm looking at an EV since it will save me money on gas.

It will pay for itself after only 600,000 miles. ($0.148/mi for Diesel, $0.045/mi for electric, $60,000 price difference)

But really I just want a new toy.
the average person drives roughly 14,000 miles a year and will keep the same car for about 8.5 years. I don't think your math checks out even if you double both those numbers

Man I'd love to own a 240/740 wagon one day. Love how blocky and utilitarian they were. The pre-lift 740 wagon was peak brick.

You seem like a man who would enjoy a nice Lada.

Batteries wear down pretty quickly. There really is very little difference between the battery in a Tesla and the battery in your phone. You can make it last longer by never charging over 80% and discharging below 20%, but then you’re only getting half the advertised range, which is already fairly low compared to a combustion engine.
I'll tow it to the cliff and use the -30% battery life to have it demolish itself for my amusement then, killjoy.

I still remember Elon saying it would be financially insane not to buy a Tesla, because their OTA updates and the like would cause them to appreciate in value.
All cars depreciate in value, there is no way he would be able to buck the trend of basic economics.
Its worth noting the justification for this was you could rent it out as a robot taxi, so it could make passive income for you. That has not yet come to pass.

Real world range of the car is between 150 and 200 miles. Officially claimed range is over 300.

electric cars easily compete and win over conventional cars. as long as those cars are from the 1950s,
You might have to go back a few more decades...

1957 Chevy BelAir with Blue Flame strait 6.
17.5mpg. 17 gal tank. 297.5mile range if you run it to E.

To get something that only has 150-200 mile range you have to start looking at stuff like the Ford Model T or A.

Imagine getting in to a cross country race with your fancy new EV against this dude and not knowing if you will win because the time you will be stuck at charging stations.

You know, a horse can do 25-40 miles a day. And we can extend that by setting up stations to switch horses at. The horse is more energy efficient than an electric vehicle both in manufacturing costs and fuel costs. The horse produces organic fertilizer. It doesn't have zero gas emissions but very low compared to an ICE. The horse has some partial self driving features and other safety features like fear of death. You can also eat the horse if you need to. If you have a pair, you can use them to make other horses and not have to go to a horse dealer. I'm just saying we need to consider if maybe the entire concept of a horseless carriage was always a boondoggle.

This doesn't sound like something that could ever work. Tesla is going to sell you a car where it can generate passive revenue...FOR YOU.

Nigger please. Tesla might as well just make the cars themselves and make that passive revenue.

This shit isn't going to take off.

I mean, it's pretty clearly already not working, but that's never stopped anyone. The story BEV proponents liked to tell was that you would soon be able to send your fully automated self-driving car off to act as a taxi while you weren't using it, so you wouldn't have to worry about parking and could make money from it while you did something else. It would spend all its downtime orbiting the city until someone called for a taxi. They even thought it would go and charge itself when it needed to. It was a stupid pipe-dream even before it became clear that self-driving cars are a naive hope at best, but then it quickly morphed into "you don't need a car, there will be an endless supply of self-driving taxis", and then sort of went downhill from there.

I think self-driving vehicles could be a thing, in time. China doesn't have as many regulatory hurdles as we do here (for better or for worse) and they seem to be forging ahead. Or maybe that's just me being hopeful. Anyways:

(Also I forgot who said I was going to get doxxed for uploading a redacted FB screenshot earlier but since that still hasn't happened I'd like to report that I no longer have an angry Doge pfp but currently depressed Roboute Guilliman)

You might have a stalker that is going to be watching you over the next few months to let something else slip so they can put together a whole profile of you, with all the push pins and red yarn.

Working with a pseudonymous Facebook profile tied to a throwaway Yandex account (and no phone number) and the burner Protonmail I used here to post as an extremely well-known 40K character with thousands and thousands of web search hits that aren't me, all behind a proxy I set up on rented server space in northern New Jersey

Well, good luck

Tesla has been on a streak of bad (?) decisions recently, as they laid off most of the Supercharger team, several executives have left, and the gigacasting plans have been put on hold.

And China's EV companies haven't been doing any better either, even though EV Stans are clamoring for cheap Chinese EVs to come to their countries:

I also didn't know that Huawei jumped in on the EV market, although it does make sense since Xiaomi did the same thing. And does China have the equivalent of Lemon Laws for newly purchased cars?

I still don't get why they haven't come out with electric vehicles that are designed so the customer can add their own range extending power source, like a generator that uses gas or diesel or a fuel cell or just another battery pack
