Adding a generator just really doesn't get you much, the added weight of everything just eats up more range, offsetting whatever you would gain. Sure it works for a train, but when you look at the small form factor of the car, I haven't seen it work. Also you would need an inverter generator, those things aren't cheap. Then everything has to pass crash test safety, and I don't see how something like that would pass, when a consumer could "add in" whatever power source they see fit.I still don't get why they haven't come out with electric vehicles that are designed so the customer can add their own range extending power source, like a generator that uses gas or diesel or a fuel cell or just another battery pack
The Cybertruck has another battery you can buy to extend the range. Takes up half the limited bed space though.
Here's a guy who tried the generator extended Tesla (10,000 watt). I can see why nobody does it, imagine the noise. 70db IN THE CAR.
