US Texas to take up bill requiring Ten Commandments in every public school classroom - WTF is "Separation of Church & State"?

The Texas state Senate Education Committee this week will take up a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be installed in every public school classroom, and another that would allow schools to hire pastors or chaplains instead of counselors.

“A public elementary or secondary school shall display in a conspicuous place in each classroom of the school a durable poster or framed copy of the Ten Commandments,” reads SB 1515.

The bill is extremely specific, mandating the size of the poster (at least 16 x 20), and that it be readable from anywhere in the classroom: “in a size and typeface that is legible to a person with average vision from anywhere in the classroom in which the poster or framed copy is displayed.”

The bill also includes the complete text of the Ten Commandments, in the version ordained by its author, state Senator Phil King, a Republican.

Senator King’s bill goes as far as to mandate that if a school classroom does not have the Ten Commandments posted, it “must” accept a copy if anyone donates one, and any extras “must” be offered for donation to any other school. It can also use taxpayer funds to purchase a copy.

NBC News senior investigative reporter Mike Hixenbaugh, who posted news of the bill on Monday, points out language in the Ten Commandments might be confusing to a first grader.

The Education Committee will also take up a bill “allowing school districts to employ chaplains to perform the duties of school counselors.”

The bill, SB 763, specifies that the chaplains do not need to be certified by the state education board.

Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott, believed to be gauging a run for the White House, as the state Attorney General won a U.S. Supreme Court case allowing the Ten Commandments to be displayed on the state capitol grounds.

A constitutional attorney for the Freedom From Religion Foundation (FFRF) in 2019 wrote allowing the Ten Commandments in classrooms would “impose biblical law on the state’s public schools,” and added: “Such displays are illegal.”

All of you retards saying how great this is are going to be crying foul when Muhammad demands the same access to a child's school room and wants to put sharia law texts in school classrooms under the threat of violence from the state. Or when an edgy Satanist decides he wants to include a picture of Baphomet's titties in every school classroom.

Oh exactly. One could make the same argument for any religious text belonging in a school. and in the end none of them should be there. Unless you go to a religious school the doctrine should be secular. You can't have the government pushing their religious code on you. That's how we got the Middle East. Just because it's Jesus doesn't make it any less dangerous. Don't start a slippery slope. If some woke school district decides to post Sharia texts in the classroom you'll upset yet unable to parse why it's technically the same problem. You know if you give an inch to the government they take miles.

Some of you try so hard to "own the libs" that you create paradoxes of your own thinking process.

Notice how they spent half the day arguing with me about it despite me disproving their argument.

Have they been in a coma since 2005? Glad they're focusing on the real, hard-hitting issues facing Texas.

Besides, which Biblical translation of the Ten Commandments are you going to use? I wouldn't want Catholic children exposed to Protestant BS, especially the evangelical types that really despise the Church. And who are the pastors going to be? Are they going to hire pastors for each religious denomination in the school?

Dumb, ill-conceived idea. If the Ten Commandments solved anything there wouldn't be any issues, everybody has an idea of what they are even if not Christian.

Reactions: The Last Stand
The only thing proved in this thread so far is that Last Stand has no ability to articulate a point.

All there is, is pushing your culture. Not doing so is suicidal weakness. Troon stuff is inherently pseudo-religious, and yet it is somehow not unconstitutional. There is constant talk of repealing or limiting the 2nd Amendment.

It is utterly foolish to keep trying to play defense against scum who do not abide by the same rules. Restricting oneself to an interpretation of what's constitutional that happens to favor them when they do not have such restrictions simply means they win.

Again, I'm arguing in principle and citing concepts from The Constitution itself to prove why this sets a dangerous precedent.

Then again, you don't like me very much so we're just spinning our wheels at this point.

Its recognizing secularism is long dead and gone. You are already slipping down the slope into clown world whether you like it or not. If they want to put Sharia, I don't have a problem with it, not like it would make schools less Islamic than they already are. I'd pay to see the Koran surrounded by pride flags of tolerance.

Public schools didnt exist at time of the founding. They are state churches, but because the religions they preach are non-theistic (e.g. Statism and Wokeism), “atheists” are deceived into believing that they are secular and end up promoting the very thing they’re trying to fight against.

Now, schools are recognized as the "state." 1962; Engel v. Vitale. Although, I do agree with you that the concept of religion should be better defined given today's zeitgeist.

She's an atheist that despises men and Southern values.
If there is a God, He sure ain't doing much to stop Clown World from going the way it has been.
Nah the good ol' boys in charge down here aren't too big on that, at least not openly.
Bullshit, everybody loves girlcock, they just don't know it yet.

If schools get to swing pride flags around, the woke religion, then that is being sponsored by the state as well. The mere mention of God will not cause children to wither and die. In fact it's a perfect counter to the left. Either take down the flag or let us counter it with the opposition. Now that is a teaching experience.

Normally I'd agree that it's a stunt, it's unimportant, might bounce into the Establishment Clause, whatever. On the other hand, the Left in America only cares about power and winning, so if the New Rules are actually Calvinball I'm fresh out of fucks to give. It's fucking basic Game Theory, if the other guy stops following the rules, you do too.

Wouldn't a better course of action to be to legally classify all these identify policies as a religion? I'm sure somebody could if they tried.

Functionally that is what they are, every fedora-wearing, euphoric atheist organization would come out swinging about it not being a real religion so it would never be classified as such. The Cult of Woke is currently favored by the people who could make that determination, so they won't do anything to endanger it, Wokists are too useful an attack dog.

I would love to see states go that route and classify Current Year as a religion. That would be more effective than this IMO.
