I always had a very passive, mild appreciation of metal until I heard this album. I absolutely love it, and I wanted to ask if anyone had recommendations for similar sounding stuff. My favorite tracks are probably Equanimity and Rod of Asclepius, if it helps. I also really like the last two tracks in the context of having listened to the whole album through, I think it's a really satisfying conclusion.

This might be a patronizing question since they're pretty well known, but are you familiar with Lamb Of God?

The vocal style and general arrangement hits me as kind of LOG-y.

Anyways here's a couple random bonus.

Weird cover, but w/e, it's got a saxophone solo.

Totally not my cup of tea bc of how modern it sounds. The music itself sounds very thrashy (Thrash Metal) but the vocals give me some Swedish Melo Death Metal vibe. The intro track sounds like the Clockwork Orange soundtrack. The first band that came to my mind during the first real track was early In Flames stuff.

But the longer I listend to it I had to think off a-not-so-technical-Vektor.

And Toxic Holocaust!

Thanks a lot for the recommendations. I think I definitely hear what you mean, both of those albums work for me. Some of the more melodic(?) parts of The Jester Race (album) sound kind of corny to my ear, but I like everything else about it. I've heard some Vektor before and they're quickly growing on me; I never imagined vocals this shrill in metal, let alone them sounding this good. And I'll have to listen to some more Toxic Holocaust, so far I think they're alright.

Don't worry about it, it's new to me. I like what I hear so far, I'll check them out.

A little late to the party on this, but listening to Tesseract's latest album, "War Of Being".

Really good stuff so far. I had discovered them back in 2015 around the time that "Polaris" came out. Glad to see that they're still fighting the good fight.

One of the weirdo bands from UK.
What is it with the UK and weirdo metal anyway? Aside from NWOBHM and early doom I basically just associate the UK with bands like Bal-Sagoth and The Meads of Asphodel. I can't think of any other country that produces metal like that with such regularity.

There's a stronger than average overlap between British metalheads and gross weirdos who are cringe, which is really saying something since only the World Music scene is cringier and gayer. Brits are forbidden by law from having interesting political beliefs, too.
