The ~Aesthetic~ thread - General thread for aesthetic trends including but not limited to fashion, art, and home design.

Guys and gals, how would you describe your dresswear 'aesthetic'? Do you have one? I'd say mine is a mix between Chicano street-style, clean girl, and a early 2000's tomboy.

How would y'all describe your dwelling's aesthetic? Do you cater your place towards a specific look or do you do whatever and let it be?
Dresswear; pretty similar to yours, emphasis on early 2000s tomboy. 95% of my clothes are thrifted. My favorite item of clothing is this loose color block sweater from the 90s I usually pair with leggings. It's a pretty worn out sweater, a couple visible snags, but it's so comfy.

Dwelling; I try to go for an early 90s look. Floral pattern items thrown around here and there. Fake ivy wrapped around lamps and rods. My kitchen has colored glass cups. My favorite cup is one colored cobalt blue that has a gradient fading to black at the bottom. I love it so much.

"Recession core" in this case means "i don't want to be fucking stabbed for wearing a Gucci logo or gold jewelery, and i act accordingly"
Also something i noticed for living in actual economic resections, when shit starts truly hitting the fan, poor's people clothes get more trashy. Very bright colors (so the factory can use that fabric in other products) a rising in graphic tees (insanely cheap and ready to made) and everything becomes nylon, lycra, and other plastic clothes (even denim becomes scarce) and most importantly, all clothes hace the same patterns. The same top, the same short, the same jacket in all stores with diferent colors or prints.

Fashion as philosophy

Like this?

My clothing style has been helpfully boiled down to its purest essence by the aesthetics wiki: https://aesthetics.fandom.com/wiki/French_Girl
Lucky. I know it's supposed to be a personalized style, but it seems like you have to have a certain body type to do it right.

(Not to say that you can't emulate the core ideas no matter how you look, though.)

My casual clothing style is, Rummaged Through The Goodwill Dumpster.

My clothing aesthetic (if you can call it that) is hand-sewn.

Match these with a pair of cuff jeans and a bandanna and you’ve got a rockabilly look.

Vaporwave, on the other hand, I genuinely do enjoy. It's good music to have on in the background when I'm working and all my desktop/mobile backgrounds etc are A E S T H E T I C because that shit's cool.

Personally I just rip the hide and fur off any wild animal I cone across. Paleocore and Neandercore gets the ladies with the assistance of clubbing.
@donnydust takes us clubbing:

Media limit. Second/Double post incoming in a bit I guess.

I did get lucky in the body department, God decided to throw me a bone after the bad face and unpleasant personality. That being said, high quality basics look good on everyone. Plus you can still wear sneakers and jeans and a t-shirt - just so long as they're high quality and well-styled (simple accessories, ironed, tailored or well-fitting), it's ~fashion~. Hell you can throw a black blazer over pajamas and get away with a helluva lot

For thread tax, an aesthetic concept I really enjoy but is kind of niche is cassette futurism - same ballpark as vaporwave, but it's more as if technology kind of got stuck in the 70's. Lots of chunky buttons, whirring tapes, and scan lines. You can find this in the Alien franchise and that Severance TV show. Recreate this in your own home by spending too much money on a mechanical keyboard like I did!
Here's a subreddit for your perusal.

Still trying to figure that out and I'm a grown adult with a professional career. Kinda missed that stage of development, so that's why I like learning so much from you guys.

I used to take what I could get, still kind of do for the most part, but if I had the budget I'd got for shit like this:

Honestly, I didn't realize people went so hardcore on aesthetics until I downloaded Tiktok. Isn't it pointless when the trend is gonna change in a few years anyway?
Yup.

And how the fuck do people afford the furniture and look of everything?
Their parents. You see a sharp drop-off in the people participating once their out on their own, but like a alluded to earlier, that's not necessarily a bad thing. I think you're supposed to help your children discover the things they like or don't like so they can make informed decisions as adults.

Nothing in my house matches. I got a (hideous) purple ultra decorated blanket thing (imagine 3 wolf gas station t shirt but butterflies) that was a gift and I hung it on my wall. I use the pictures from old calendars to make 12 pic collages on my walls too. I rent, and the paint and floors are a hideous poor quality medium gray. Countertops are an awful speckled brown. I hate it. Try to break up the gray and brown with literally anything else. I have 2 couches that are both second hand (first was never used still wrapped up, got from some older guy off nextdoor) and neither of them are remotely the same style or color. All my tables and shelves are from curbfinds that I cleaned up and none of them match, lol. I have a lot of small lamps and christmas lights around for the cozy evening lighting.
You sound like a lot of other people I've known.
If you have the budget for it, wanna know a tip? This shit right here:
I know, I know, and I know a lot of people with more money itt will judge me for it, but honestly this shit can help make mismatched furniture look a lot more cohesive.

Any interest in real plants or too dark/too much hassle/bad environment?

Dresswear is an incredibly odd mix of cleangirl/gymgirl/tomboy all at the same time. I like being comfy and my job is not client facing (thank god). But I can dress myself nicely (albeit "simple and clean") if the occasion calls for it.

My dwelling aesthetic is a combination of those meme images of guys houses posted earlier/poor person minimalism/white and greys with tons of plants for colour.

I don't like having a lot of stuff so, actual minimalism, just what I need to get by. The plants are so my house isn't depressing.

Is that a suicide net?

It's a stars net in this case, you go in the center bit and can lay on it and look up.
In general, though, I like abnormal places like this but I don't know what's it called.

Ok, that's actually really fucking cool. If it was safe I would totally love a nice raised hammock. It would be sick if it had like an ocean view or something too. Based.

This is why I thought it looked like a suicide net:

Black and brown people have botched for literally years and years about being referred to by food items. Mocha, chocolate, etc. Apparently it's racist to use analogies to describe skin tone, except that they also bitch about being referred to as brown or black.

Their number one compliant was that no one calls white people food. Now that people are calling white people vanilla they are screaming because black people can't be vanilla. :story:

I find sjws to be both infuriating and lulzy. Nothing is ever good enough for them. The only way to win with them is by not playing.

This thread is awesome.
Never understood this, as that's literally what the hues are. There's warm and cool tones and different shades of white. There's alabaster, ivory (imagine being referred to as an elephant's tooth), and for brown skin tones there's tawny, swarthy (like what Jesus was), sandy, and more. Their tones are different just based on colour theory.

Sheboons will rage about anything. No one other than them complains. Gucci is now a billion dollar company because it branched out to makeup, and its wide hues cover every shade and every race imaginable. Before, makeup was NOT tuned for darker skin tones. You can thank Iman for starting the trend of darker foundations for darker women.

Perusing the Aesthetics wiki my own personal tastes align with Dark Nautical, which seems funny to know it's a subculture of a subculture but it fits me spot on. I've always been drawn to ships and the ocean and it seems minimalist enough while still having room for some personal touches. It's a bit moot for me because the girl runs the design of the household with only a bit of say from me, but I have the shed (I wouldn't call it a man cave as such) with some stuff I've hung on the walls, a place for my cigars, etc.

My personal style is pretty simplistic; a lot of blues, grays and blacks, business casual at work (I prefer henleys over polos) and jeans and T shirts at home, a lot of band and tour shirts mostly. I'm also autistic enough to delve into EDC, which I've put together almost entirely with leather and brass.

That early 2000s future aesthetic.

Nothing makes me feel quite the same way as it.

I feel like watching episodes of Batman Beyond on Kids WB as a kid eventually sparked my love for Akira and Ghost in the Shell in my teen years. I never quite understood why Akira and Ghost in the Shell felt familiar until I decided to re-watch Batman Beyond and then it clicked for me: "Neo-Gotham in the 2050s is Neo-Tokyo in Katsuhiro Otomo's 2019."

I'll fall on my sword and say I really like neo-memphis/avant basic. Like Portia's apartment from Season 4 of Search Party

The latter is more up to date version of the style but I do prefer the former. You'd need to be really rich to have a house like that though, you'd basically need to go all in on the style and also be able to rip it all out without worrying about money if you ever got sick of it. The original Memphis Milano furniture is also really expensive and it's hard to find knock offs because the style is so miche

Also as fun as it is, it's not exactly "tasteful" and "mature" and probably only works with that sort of New York loft architecture. Avant Basic as the zoomer update on the aesthetic is more easy to integrate but easily turns into "teenage girl bedroom".

Also as a "new" style (unlike Neo Memphis, which is very much replicating something that's already old), it'll date horribly. I actually think it might be tipping into played out already.
