The ~Aesthetic~ thread - General thread for aesthetic trends including but not limited to fashion, art, and home design.

My aesthetic will forever be mid-to-late 2000s [adult swim]. I know that there are tons of “lo-fi” shit nowadays, but it's never quite able to perfectly capture the exact feeling, atmosphere, or whatever the fuck it's called.
Impressive, very nice. Now let's see Patrick Bait-man's clips.

Nothing makes me feel quite the same way as it.
The tasteful thickness of it.. Oh my G-d...

But all this has merely been preparation for the true origin of A e s t h e t i c

Some aesthetics I like

I wish this stuff was free of the "-core" suffix that attracts all the braindead teenage girls so that I could enjoy it with others in peace
instead, I lurk in the background never admitting to liking it and admiring it from a distance
also seconding these
Weirdcore/dreamcore/liminal spaces
90s/Vaporwave/etc
cassette futurism
That early 2000s future aesthetic.
Cassette Futurism/90s/Y2K are the holy trinity, I love them all immensely
Can't say shit about clothes though because I just spend every day at home so appearances don't matter lol. Sweatpants and sweaters for life

I really like this style and the look of the jackets/windbreakers you posted, but sadly they just don't work with me, when i tried them in a thrift store. They look better on other people.
Same; I love this style but it doesn't work for me personally. I have a few shirts from Vapor95 I wear with my normal style and I'm pretty content with that.

Bumping with some topic starters.

First off, this video. This is an example of "that girl" the girl with the aesthetic lifestyle that everyone wants to emulate, apparently.
The pilates section is especially bizarre to me, not just because the pilates studio is bizarre (what even is that setup) but also she shoots the video in a ways where I can't stop thinking about what when into every shot.
For example, when she opens the locker to put her shit in it, then closes the door. She had to have put her phone in the locker, turned it on, put her junk in, closed the door, then reopened the door to get her phone.
At the point where she's doing pilates, she has the camera focused exactly on her ass. How many tries did it take to line that up right?

Next, trends for 2023. What do you guys think? Accurate?

Finally, a crossover with the consoomer thread:
She calls the an "aesthetic haul", but what is the specific aesthetic she's going for?

Why spend $27 on rosemary hair oil if you can get a bottle of olive oil for $6.99 and some dried rosemary from the Walmart herb section for 70 cents?! Also, "punch that like button"? I'll punch the like button, and then rape it in the anus so hard that it will cry about the incident in therapy and kill itself by taking several handfuls of sleeping pills. Lastly, the last girl bought 7 lip glosses! Unless you were using it on your vaginal lips, I fail to see why you need that much lip gloss.

Since we're on the topic of film aesthetics, I'd like to give a shout out to Tarkovsky's films. The sort of steady, surreal, soft, low contrast beauty of them. I used to see a lot of screenshots on Tumblr back in the days and they also appeal to some of the current non-consumerist, slow living trends.

Ok guys, I'm gonna show you one of the very few consumerist things I find very aesthetically pleasing. Check this out:
The whole park seems like a pretty neat place, but this specific section/attraction just speaks to me on a different level.
I really wanna go visit in person.

if we are talking film, i have to mention Jodorowsky

But its not just his movies, Jodorowsky also famously collaborated with legendary artist Moebius in some of the most influential comics ever. An i mean it, Moebius was a direct influence for Miyazaki, Otomo, Satoshi Kon and many other iconic anime directors, you may not even know the guy but you know his influence, he was making cyberpunk before the term cyberpunk came to be, to this day pretty much every illustrator who designs cyberpunk stuff takes influence in his style.

Katsuhiro Otomo apparently took direct advice from Jodorowsky when making the Akira manga, if you read it, the weird mystical deliriums Tetsuo has on drugs and the baby imaginery were supposed to come from Jodorowsky's input. Nausicaa by miyazaki is directly making tribute to Moebius's Arzak, as well as a lot of the drawing style. Miyazaki became friends and collaborated with Moebius.

Oi, Christian Bale avatar: I got something for ya.

The best art style, the best soundtrack, and the best atmosphere of any animated Spider-Man show ever... and it had to be squandered on the worst show. Unlimited's intro is still a fucking bop though.

Fun fact: it was originally conceived that Unlimited would adapt Spider-Man 2099, but the network decided against it because it would be competing directly with Batman Beyond (which is a fucking baffling reason with hindsight). If you want Spider-Man with retrofuture aesthetic, look no further than Miguel O'Hara and the dysfunctional world that is the Marvel 2099 universe.
