Legend of Bum-Bo also helps shift blame onto Dad, demonstrating his gambling problems, etc. The functional reality is stark: At a certain point, late in the game's lifecycle, Edmund went from being content with Mom being the Big Bad to trying to humanize Mom. The chief target for the blame shifting became Dad. These changes came deep in the game's life cycle, and while not a full Heel-Face Turn, is absolutely repentance (metanoia, the changing of the mind based on new information). Shifting blame from a female character to a male is a common trope in feminist fiction, ergo this is plainly DEI-coded on its face.
There is no "blame shifting", did you not pay attention to the endings?
Isaac has an awful image of his mother because she's a born-again Christian that abused him for every little thing he did, and she's the only person thats ever around him.
There's only vague items and references to the dad because he left the household a long time ago. Isaac is a literal child, and he definitely cannot remember his dad very well.
On the Beast ending, Isaac gets a flashback to his entire life and you can see that in actuality:
* Dad stole money and was an abusive prick to mom
* Mom became hopeless, histerical and overtly religious
* Dad gives up on his family and leaves, leaving Isaac by himself with his crazy mom.
* Isaac develops a deep self hatred because of his mom and himself twisting the Bible into thinking he's a demon spawn, he later dies in delirium inside a chest, either stuck inside or choosing to stay there to rid his sinful self from the world.
So instead of "psycho mom abuses Isaac for no clear reason into suicide" we get "bum retard dad and psycho mom drove Isaac into suicide".
The ending in bumbo shows another mistake by dad: teaching Isaac to use his imagination. Instead of Isaac dealing with his problems, he can't because he's a literal child and all he can do his use his imagination for escapism.
