Now that I say that, actually, I can kind of see where they're coming from. "Shock sites" don't really exist in the same way they used to- zoomers raised in the corral of reddit-twitter-tiktok will never be exposed to anything grimmer than the occasional moderation-worthy subreddit, which jannies will generally sweep up promptly. Long gone are the days of receiving a random link to tubgirl in your Kingdom of Loathing chat. They don't have a framework for this kind of thing existing beyond calling for the powers that be to make the bad person behind it go away.

As a kid that played his dead baby dress up on newgrounds, I shouldn't be surprised, but I am sad because I just started playing BoI again nonstop. Such a baller game. Unfortunately it seems the man who made the dead crying shitting baby game was a sicko.

You're retarded. Dad was always an absentee parent, that was his biggest flaw prior to Repentance. We even had hints of his failings as a parent before Repentance, with Dad's Lost Coin clearly being an Alcoholics Anonymous sobriety coin. While Rep expanded on it with him stealing from Mom, his gambing problem, etc. The Beast is very clearly wearing Mom's dress, not to mention the Mother ending where Mom locks Isaac in a closet for drawing her as a monster. As well as this, both Bum-Bo and The Beast endings show Isaac is closer to his dad than his mom. And finally, you have the Dogma boss fight which showcases Mom's indoctrination by Christian TV broadcasts. To claim that the game suddenly switched to painting Dad as the sole villain of the story, and making Mom more sympathetic in an effort to serve DEI quotas is an outright lie. Both parents are equally responsible for where Isaac ended up, and always were. If they hadn't been, what happened to him wouldn't have happened.

I ran a (fairly big for that time) webforum with five digit active users, which was huge at that time, and not in a single instance had cp ever been posted on it, EVER.

But the fucked up thing is, back then "jailbait" was a huge thing, so both 4chan and especially Reddit were filled with titty selfies of <18yo teens. Don't get me wrong, still illegal, and if you remember that this is what made Reddit big back in the day, it explains a lot. But when it comes to cruelty, teenagers taking pics of their own body is only the tip of the tip of the CP iceberg.

I was also a dumb kid forum admin around that time, much smaller forum though. The only porn that ever got posted was the infrequent stileproject link and hello.jpg a billion times. Dumb purity spiraling over dead baby jokes and stuff like Pico's School was much more of a problem and that limp Ed callout gave me a weird sense of deja vu over it.

Stuff like gore and jailbait on the early internet were treated A LOT differently than now. People are a lot more sensitive about it and there's a much more instilled sense of outrage about it now. I'm younger than Edmund so I can't do any moralizing for him, but I know that if you were in your younger teens in the early 2000s on the internet there was a definite sense of feeling like if you got offended by that stuff you were being a "baby" or a normie or whatever. And people Edmund's age and older were setting the tone on those weird corners of the internet posting that sort of thing. These days everyone seems to want to be or pretend to be younger with younger sensibilities, but back then it was the opposite: you always pretended to be older than you were on the internet, never told anyone you were a kid or that something disturbed you.

Another thing I want to mention is about CP. Someone mentioned his site had links to porn sites that either included or linked to CP. I'm not sure if they meant straight up like Child or jailbait, but like the other poster said JB was incredibly common and everywhere in the early 2000s. It wasn't even really considered that weird for older men to find pubescent teens attractive. You can see this a lot on older TV shows too.
This is another thing about Old Internet, but porn sites were so much less safe back then and often included all sorts of unsavory shit. Even today people ignore there's JB and very ambiguously aged people on popular porn sites. Back then people really turned a blind eye to it. That is all to say, it wouldn't surprise me if that wasn't the main purpose of linking to it.
