I’m back visiting my family in my drab northern yet still extremely white town. There’s a weird feeling in the air.

I took them out for a meal on Saturday and coming back a guy was screaming at a taxi driver who cut him off that he shouldn’t even been in the country. It’s a rough town but I didn’t even see that in the 80s (although we where probably 99.999% white back then, so maybe there were no darkies to scream at lol.)

My mum, who is a be nice to people and they’ll be nice to you type liberal just laughed. A few years ago she’d have told the guy to watch his mouth.

My local back here is gloriously racist but in a fun way. You could use all of the gamer words at the top of your lungs and no one would bat an eye lid, unless someone had brought a black workmate in for a pint and everyone one behave themselves. My dad’s boomer mates are really angry with the government. They’re openly talking about how good Tommy Robinson is. These are full on Labour cattle who have voted red all their lives and I doubt they will again.

Something has really changed. I live in a nice comfy middle class bubble a couple of hundred miles from my home town, but I do go back every other month. I’m not completely sheltered from what the proles think but even I was shocked at how wildly and quickly people have changed.

There’s not a thing the government is doing right for people who have worked all their lives, but finally those people are starting to wake up.

It’s going to be a weird few years.

If you want to be shocked by racism might I suggest a trip to North Wales? I was visiting an elderly relative there and was floored. Not by the opinions, as I'm quite racist myself. But by how open it was. People simply didn't care. It was obvious they've had more than enough,they're sick of us having the absolute dregs lying and cheating their way into the country, they are tired of being told it's wonderful and they want everyone to know.

Labour (in their defence,like all politicians) have no clue how the majority think but their fetishization of the working classes and their delusional belief they represent them, is a real feat of mental gymnastics.

This false logical connection between 'caring' and action is one of the more insidious ones in modern political discourse, in my opinion, along with the implicit couching of every question in terms of gross economic effects (e.g. talking about labour 'shortages' as if that's a bad thing, but if everyone has a livelihood, then why should we care about jobs going unfilled?)

You can regret people's suffering, but still believe that seemingly callous actions are necessary for the wider and long term benefit of your society. You see this trick being used everywhere, with the 'don't you care about granny dying?!' rhetoric's being used to justify COVID lockdowns being a prime example.

A group of people they will quite rightly make judgements on, because that’s based on seeing how the group behave, but your black workmate is alright because you know him and he’s decent His missus is nice and his kids are polite and play with yours, and people don’t want to be rude to people they like.
I feel like the powers that be have never quite ‘got’ this. Half the country is like this, they will happily say that there are too many immigrants because there are, but the one guy they know well who has a proven record of being a good bloke is ok. These people are now demonised as racists, when they’re probably not, they just see things as they are and take people as they find them.
If we all did that (as we all used to, by the way, pre-1997 this used to be the default) we’d be in a much better place.

Sorry for the double post, but you make a good point. I tried to explain English “racism” to Americans; we don’t like foreigners as a concept but when we meet them and everyone is respectful we not only get on with them we actually make friends too.

It’s weird how Blair completely arse fucked this country and the Tories did nothing to fix it with all the time they had.

That's the secret. They never did change. It's just life was comfortable enough that they weren't willing to risk it to make their views known. Life is now hard enough, and the undercurrent of distaste is strong enough that the people on the edges are starting to leak their inner thoughts.

My experiences are the same as yours. But I don't think it'll result in any change. It'll result in more government control and oversight because the media and the bourgeois have a complete death grip on life now

Apologies if this is not the correct place to ask/discuss with however I assume it is, but am not trying to detour prior discussions.

I don’t usually use short-form content, I don’t have them installed besides the usual Youtube/Instagram but every single time I’ve opened them or accidentally went onto shorts/reels I am suddenly seeing an increase and bombardment of islamic content, especially islamic people, white people who have converted to Islam and even videos of people suggesting certain Islamic countries are completely safe to go to.

Now I am fully aware of what’s going on in the world with conflicts etc but this is ridiculous and wondered if anyone else has noticed this?

About what I posted, it's far from impossible that you have a fascist militia that likes to work out together. But at the same time my trust in the media and groups like Hope Not Hate is so (justifiably) low now that when I see something like this, I tend to shrug. Someone posted a cake for Hitler's birthday - edgy, humour or declaration of intent to go on an ethnic purge? I can't tell, I just don't trust the groups that declare it to be the last. What I do remember about that flash game or app or whatever is that it started with (you) getting invited to a workout studio, then another scene, capped off by the climax where (you) go to a demonstration with (your) pals, and then the game ends with something like "You murdered someone!" "The images on the article are gay as fuck" - whilst I understand where you're coming from, do you think there is a reason why the BBC chose these images for the article ? Why do they always choose the most unflattering photo of Trump or Farage that they possibly can ? Why do they only report certain news stories and give minimal negative coverage to others ?
Like I said, I get the "joke", but I very much doubt all these guys are gay, any more than all the guys playing for the local football or rugby team.

This is how American racism is, too. Most people who have realized niggers the problem have no problem with the odd black guy who is not a pain in the ass. E.g. with me, there's a black guy who lives in my neighborhood who's a retired Army sergeant (never spoke to him, but he broadcasts it with bumper stickers and flags). He's got a wife and two kids, and he has the most neatly trimmed bushes and manicured lawn around. I've got no ill-will toward him at all. Noticing a pattern is what racism is, though. Recognizing that living in a black neighborhood is asking to get robbed regularly, for example, isn't something you're allowed to say out loud. Maybe if normal people start deciding that's not "racism," that will allow them to short-circuit the programming, I don't really know.
