The Clock Tower (and Haunting Ground) Series

latest

Seems like Hifumi Kono (the original creator of Clock Tower) is making a spiritual sequel to his series.

More info about it can be found here -

Clock Tower 3 is one of very few vidyagaems that I've actually completed. *yawn* I was honestly startled by it in spots. My favorite is when one of the Scissor Twins jumps out at you when you're leaving the hospital bathroom. I've got some fond memories of it, but it's pretty goddamn goofy.

And hnnngh I really wanted to play Haunting Ground, so I hope it gets a PSN release. I saw it at a used game store someplace once, should've grabbed it when I had the chance. (:_(

I really enjoyed the PS version of the first Clock Tower, the second one was a disappointment and the third has some great stuff, but started losing its edge in the later half. There was less reliance on using the stuff around you and you had to rely on holy water than your wits. Other characters just felt more creepy than scary. I have yet to play Haunting Grounds though.

I'm sure some of you have heard of the now on haitus, Remothered which was also going to be a spirtual successor.

I liked Clock Tower 3 quite a bit. It's certainly better than The Struggle Within was, and even with it's Ron-knock-off Dennis and some rather awkward dialogue (Snippity snap!), it's zaniness adds to the appeal of the game. It's wonderfully strange.

Overall, it was a good game. Sledgehammer was the best of the villains.

It definitely has potential. A LOT of people are already ragging on it though. One of the reasons I can recall off the top of my head is that the protagonist is your stereotypical well-endowed blonde woman running around in heels.
I do have to ask: how is it a problem? Did those complaining wanted a different protagonist?

I guess they just find it cliche and annoying. Probably the "oh no, another female protag who exists only for sex appeal" mentality. It's pretty silly, especially since the game is still in development.

And not only that, one can only consider the setting which is basically a cruise ship that was mean't to be a vacation, not some nightmare involving a murderous entity with giant scissors. Still, one cannot wait for the game to come out since really, it may as well be refreshing compared to all the other horror games out there.

The one thing in that description I'll criticize is the heels, and that's because I just don't like the idea of doing something that requires this much effort with heels that aren't boot-type. I don't know, maybe I just don't like stilettos.

Now I realise that this thread hasn't been posted in for some time now but AWWWW YEEEEAH! Clock Tower!

I remember seeing a review of the PS1 game in a magazine and thinking it couldn't possibly be the least bit scary. The reviewer poked fun at Scissorman for having a limp but then I rented the game and when the pursuit music kicked in for the fateful first time and the infamous scissors began to scrape, they never ever left my memory.

One of the most scary elements of the game was how Scissorman would learn from his mistakes while stalking your character. If you hid from him in a certain place and then later tried to pull the same trick on him again, there was a big chance he'd see through it this time around and corner you with no chance of escape. As a first-time player, I was taken completely off-guard when he came lurching right up to the sofa which had saved me from him before and impaled both it and my character with his shears! It was a real "Did...did that just happen?" moment for me.

Did you know that there were two Choose Your Own Adventure books published in Japan? They were both based on the PS1 game and each dedicated to retelling the story from either Jennifer or Helen's perspective. They were never officially translated into English but a dedicated fan showed up to rescue them from total obscurity. Well, one of them anyway. As of now, they've completed Helen's book although it remains to be seen whether Jennifer's will receive the same treatment.

Click the link below and you'll find yourself whisked off to the English translation of Helen's book. (You could always try saying "Open the door and show me the way!" instead but, trust me, the link works better!)

I like Corroder, personally. Mostly because I somehow managed to have a very silly dream wherein he was a disgruntled French showerhead salesman following Alyssa around to get her to buy his wares.
...Why yes, my subconscious does have a weird sense of humor. Why do you ask?

Because they want her to be a black transgendered otherkin.

Clock Tower 3 is the only one in the series I've played enough to get a feel for. It's also the only game in almost 30 years that's ever evoked a true psychological disturbance. There's some seriously fucked murder scenes in that one, and I'm surprised parents didn't complain about it more. I guess they were distracted by Vice City letting you drive on the sidewalk at the time.

Anyway, I need to go back and finish it. Pretty sure I walked away after hours of trying to find an object on the second or third level. It's currently around $15 for a used copy on Amazon, far more affordable than the ungodly expensive Haunting Ground.

I remember there was an attempt to do a semi-reboot of Clock Tower with fan-made game called, Remothered. Shame it feel through since it looked so awesome.

So I've noticed that there's a fair amount of people here who are at least aware of the Clock Tower series. For those of you who don't know - it's a survival horror series that pre-dates the likes of Alone in the Dark or Resident Evil.

Does it? Alone in the Dark came out in 92'.
