The Clock Tower (and Haunting Ground) Series

I wish the original version of Remothered (which was meant to be a remake of First Fear) had come to fruition. I remember watching gameplay footage on Youtube and the deliciously creepy graphics making me squirm with anticipation for the day when I could finally play it.

Clock Tower 3 is derided by many fans but I've always loved it. The new Stalkers are awesome in a cheesy comic-book villain kinda way, even the Scissortwins. I know that people consider them to be sacrilege compared with the original Scissorman but I treat Clock Tower 3 as a separate continuity from his games anyway.

(I used to write stories for a superhero RPG and had Corroder show up as a villain for some of them. If I can lay hands on them, I might post them in the Writing Thread sometime.)

Want to explain why you feel so? In detail, perhaps?

Holy shit I didn't realize Rule of Rose was worth so much money, like 200 bucks. I have that game somewhere, I need to dig it up and sell it.
I remember playing tht and finding the battle controls a pain in the ass.

They are a pain, but the story makes up for it.

When you think about it, that makes Rule Of Rose the complete opposite of Clock Tower - The Struggle Within.

In The Struggle Within's case, you force yourself to keep playing this frustrating game so you can find out what the deal is with the evil little girl and the machete-wielding madman whose true face is hidden behind the demon mask. Then the game is suddenly over and you're left none the wiser about any of this. In order to understand what in God's name just happened, you need to read the character bios which are unlocked now you've completed the game. Take a moment to think about that. The ability to understand what the game's story is about isn't part of the game itself. It's an extra feature you need to unlock by completing it once. That's amazing game design, right there.

By the way, the mask worn by George Maxwell is known as a Hannya Mask and represents a jealous female demon. Whether this was a deliberate parallel between the two characters or sheer meaningless coincidence, I have no way of knowing for sure, but it's interesting that Alyssa's father wears the mask of a female demon whereas she's possessed by a male spirit.

Just watched someone's early access footage of Remothered.

The background graphics are impressive, but the character models could definitely use polishing. Lip syncing is pretty bad and the dialogue all seems like it was jammed together, leaving little room for pauses and making it sound rushed and awkward. It also doesn't explain what items you pick up. I'm surprised they got Adam Harrington to voice the old guy, he's one of the biggest highlights so far.

Looks like a rocky start, but I'll keep watching.

Mine took forever to load, it went slow and it crashed or I had to get out the game. So I'm uninstalling and re-installing.

Haunting Ground is one of my fave games of all time, honestly. The style and the story are one that have actually kinda stuck with me to this day. I'd be really up for a sequel featuring an older alchemist Fiona, who is furthering the studies of her 'grandfather' Lorenzo but I think you'd have to introduce enemies and a threat that are far removed from the original first once since they did all die technically.
Honestly, after everything Fiona went through, I highly doubt she'd want anything more to do with alchemy. That and the possibility of a sequel was flat-out denied ages ago by the director. I'd still gladly welcome one though.

Considering that Fiona's life has been flipped upside-down and turned inside-out in a single night, I have to wonder what the future does hold for her. The girl's parents were murdered. She found out that her father was the clone of a long dead alchemist. Her monstrous uncle was plotting to rape her and since he was another clone, he was identical to her father apart from the horrific facial scars, boosting what was already a nightmarish situation to whole new levels of effed up. All this and she was tricked into eating soup made from her mother's butchered corpse.

Make no mistake, this young woman's got a hard road ahead of her. At least she also has Hewie by her side...

Aw man, I love the Clock Tower series and Haunting Ground was just entirely special. I think the whole 'getting raped by your uncle' in Haunting Ground is what freaks me the most out about that game. Like, the rest of the game is creepy but when Riccardo shows up - it really ups the ante. Daniella was creepy but Riccardo is just malicious.
& :powerlevel:Clock Tower 3 is one of the first games my boyfriend introduced me to!:powerlevel: I sped through it until the very end and then got stuck on that bastard of a final boss for ages before finally beating him. Honestly, I liked that game but that final boss really left a sour taste in my mouth. Also that Ron Weasley kid - he was kind of annoying.
Loved the individual back stories of every villain though + their settings, that was interesting.
I really need to play Rule of Rose but like hell am I ever gonna get lucky and find a copy of that. I think it was banned over in my country anyway, so...that sucks.

RoR is available to emulate if you want to go that route. I always thought it was silly it's banned in some places but I heard that was because essentially their edgy advertising worked a little too well.

It turns out that someone went to the trouble of writing a synopsis for Jennifer's book. I hope there'll come a day when the book receives the fanslation treatment. But until that glad day dawns, this sure is a nice treat for Clock Tower fans not fluent in Japanese.

You need only click on the link below...if you dare.
