The Elder Scrolls

My niggers in Christ I have over 2000 hours in Skyrim, I've done every branch of every quest multiple times, reset skills to grind to level 255 to max out all perks, I've done deprived playthroughs, I've done pacifist playthroughs, I've played Wyrmstooth, Falskaar, Frostfall... I have done everything there is to do in Skyrim, and to this day I did not know NPCs could trigger kill animations on the player. I thought that was a dragon-specific thing.
i am legitimately surprised by this

How fucking bad at the game are you?
So you are so good at video games you are completely unaware of a basic concept existing? Hmm.

I knew you could do it to NPCs. I knew NPCs could do it to other NPCs. I genuinely had no idea NPCs could do it to the player, except for dragons. I thought it was a dragon thing. And I mostly played sword and board, so there's been plenty of opportunity.

Are you sure this isn't a Special Edition exclusive thing that I missed?

Try not hiding behind a shield the entire game and see how it changes.

Yeah, first time I saw a killcam on my character was when I was trying to do the Ebony Mail Daedric quest; was playing as an archer, one cultist got close to me right when my heath got low, and he trapped my head with a warhammer and headbutted me.

Not a fun time, especially since I forgot to save beforehand.

Actually, speaking of gameplay; I have a few questions I wanted to ask everyone:

1: The first is: which Elder Scrolls games do you guys recommend? I admit, most of my experience with the ES games stems from Skyrim, so I'd like to try and branch out a bit into the other games. That said, I'd like to know which games are really worth it; I've gotten a number of recommendations on this site to play ESO - once I find a copy, I'll be sure to give it a try - but what about Oblivion and Morrowind? Any thoughts on those?

2: My second question is: anyone have any suggestions for a fun race to play as? Most of my prior runs in Skyrim had been with Nords and Argonians, but I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on other races? For instance, I know there's a lot of (justifiable) negativity surrounding the Khajiit, but has anyone managed to actually make a solid Khajiit character, or no? What about the different types of elves; anyone even have a fun build idea with them? And what about the Redguards or Orcs?

Don't. It's like Skyrim's treadmill of level scaling but with MMO quests and MMO combat, its mind numbing. Just play Morrowind with Tamriel Rebuilt.
I only play Morrowind and Oblivion. That's it. Skyrim is tedious

Of the 3D ones, Morrowind is better because Oblivion's leveling system is basically broken. Without aggressive build control and min-maxing you will lose power as you level up. I realize this can be fixed with mods, but Morrowind is the better out of the box experience.

Depends on what you want to do.
Men:
-Redguards: Proud Warrior MENA Race Guys. D&D Fighters, basically.
-Imperials: Romans, so mechanically Gunboat Diplomancers. D&D equivalent: the gishy-er types of Bards.
-Nords: Vikings. Literally just fucking vikings. D&D equivalent: fighter or barbarian.
-Bretons: poncy French wizards. D&D equivalent: Wizard or Cleric.

Mer:
-High Elves: Asshole Wizard Race Guys. Probably the best casters in the setting. D&D equivalent: Wizard or Sorcerer.
-Wood Elves: Sneaky archers with a nature-y vibe and the objective best race. Cannibalistic tendencies not supported by game mechanics unfortunately. D&D equivalent: Ranger or Rogue.
-Orcs: The Mer equivalent of Redguards. Grug smash, Grug wear heavy armor to not get smashed. D&D equivalent: Barbarian
-Dark Elves: Generalist racists with a convoluted culture, history, and religion. D&D equivalent: anything gish-y.

Beasts
-Khajiit: fucking furries. The Irish Travellers of the setting: dishonest, thieving, drug-dealing selfish assholes. D&D equivalent: Rogue.
-Argonian: fucking scalies. Former Dunmer farm equipment, tend to be generalists with lots of utility like waterbreathing. D&D equivalent: IDK, Warlocks? They're a bit all over the place.

Morrowind can be difficult for some people to get into but IMO it's the best elder scrolls experience that exists, you should at least give it a try. Oblivion is worse than Morrowind but it still has a unique charm and is all-around comfy.
