The Elder Scrolls

Alright so here is the latest exploit of the new hero Biggus Dickus. No quest has been completed but he happend upon the shrine of Mephala. He found an ugly ass dunmer so ugly that he didn’t want a quest from her. He went to the imperial city where he found out shriek was being harassed by a corrupt guard. Besides his better judgement Biggus dumped all his money to get them to report the guard, only for nothing to happen. So he decided, let’s find out what this twink altmer is doing with cheap shit. Discovers a lead upon some blondie but can get into the house due to lack of lockpicks.

I need to play more of it but that’s what I did so far, I’ll need to do the moss cavern and that one ayleid ruin for goods and shit.

Excuse me, that twink is a Bosmer, not an Altmer. Only a racist Imperial would think all Mer are the same.

Yeah either way the quest isn’t complete because I can’t break into the house without a literal legion pummeling my asshole. The corrupt guard quest isn’t complete either because reasons that include no one saying shit despite me paying and convincing them. Guess the guard one will have to be timed or something.

You can follow the witnesses and see the arrest, but it's also timed, so you'll probably just get a random update out of nowhere that the dude has been arrested. For the quest where the Bosmer dude has low prices, the lady who gave you the quest might have an invisibility potion. One of the stores that sells magical items might have a Chameleon piece of gear as well.

So hopefully that’ll solve the arrest issue, also for the boomer quest I legit thought I had to use the sewers to break in so I spent a good 30 minutes exploring only to realize it’s not gonna work. Lockpicking in oblivion is fucking hard since I always break 10 lockpicks before I can get one of the things.

Not to mention there is literally a high elf merchant in Windhelm who is like "Yeah, they gave me shit when I first got here but then I proved myself to be a good merchant and they accept me now."

Imp fanboys that cry that it's pure racism are just retarded Skybabies who don't pay attention I'm pretty sure.
The racism in Skyrim is like 90’s educational videos for schoolkids. The man scripted to stand outside in Windhelm to shout at a dark elf was one of the poorest, flaccid depictions of racism I’ve seen in fiction. Just no teeth to it, only the most basic takes like a lefty’s attempt to straw man a racist person. This is such a strange complaint, I know, but your race couldn’t matter any less in this game, Skyrim’s player character is just a(n assumed) foreigner that everyone is somehow okay with. The fact that you can walk right up to him to have a word while being a dark elf without any of his dialogue changing is so dumb to me.

In part yes, but is less when you're a Nord.
The thing everybody assumes independent of your race is your class, a adventurer (funny enough is the default name of the custom class in Oblivion at least). That probably explains why you can enter Windhelm being a Argonian or any of the other cities as a Khajit.
If you're a Imperial, a specific NPC in Riften insults directly at your race.
But, yeah, races aren't too much different in gameplay, more than the greater power/passive.

Functionally, race didn't matter in Morrowind either. They may insult you in dialogue when you walk past them, but a Khajiit will have the exact same default disposition with a Telvanni slaver as a Breton or Altmer. The only racial component is a +5 disposition modifier if you talk to an NPC that's the same race as you. Oblivion at least had negative disposition modifiers depending on your race and the NPC's race.

In Morrowind the main thing with beast races was that you couldn't wear shoes/boots and certain helmets due to them being digitigrade and having horns/ears, but yeah besides that it didn't really matter

I'm pretty sure you couldn't join the Morag Tong as a beast racer.

Oddly enough, there was an argonian assassin in the Morag Tong in Morrowind who you had to protect as part of the main quest. I'm surprised that one of the most holy institutions in Dunmer culture would just let there be outlanders, but I'm sure there's a reason.

Race has never really mattered in any of the games, not in any meaningful storytelling sense. It's always just kind of been something you could do, regardless of how little sense it made. Morrowind made an attempt to explain in the lore why the Nerevarine could be any race but there's really no solid reason for him to be anything other than a dark elf. Skyrim's the same way, and from a design perspective it makes sense to not have you locked out of entire cities or content for starting as the wrong race. People would be bitching endlessly.

I don't see anything online that corroborates that. And the Morag Tong you encounter in Vivec is an argonian, they shouldn't be picky about their recruits if that's the case.

Most of the Morag Tong you can meet in the game are Dunmer, it looks like those who aren't are rare exceptions.

Making responses based on race are a lot of work in the CS, you have put NOT X race in for ever other race (at least to my knowledge) and you have got to do it for all nine races, while a simple sex can go by Is or Is Not female

I never got why you'd make Argonians and Khajiit digitigrade in Morrowind when they weren't in Arena and Daggerfall if you aren't going to remodel the boots and helmets so they can wear them too. Oblivion and Skyrim are arguably lazy (even though they're just going back to how they were in Arena/Daggerfall) but at least you aren't locked out of armor just for picking a beast race.

You can join the Morag Tong as any race, you might be thinking of the Camonna Tong, which is super xenophobic and you can't join at all, even as a Dunmer.

I don't think it's lazy, it's just what works. even Everquest made their lizard and cat people just be normal humans with beast heads.
