The Elder Scrolls

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
Funny that you posted this, DAR was literally just updated a day ago. Hopefully Bethesda stops updating the game because somehow I doubt we're going to get an update for any versions after this one.
Bring the updates on! Steam can't update a game if Steam isn't even on my computer. Plus, it pisses off the retards on r/skyrimmods.

Man, i fucking hate Skyrim magic.
More retarded down, not even capable to custom spellmaking, even getting the spell tomes is costly.
One of the reasons why i prefer just playing Nord Barbarian with shouts, and completing both Companions and College of Winterhold with the same character.

Magic got brutalized to a ridiculous degree. Even the non combat shit just got shredded, it was a real disappointment not to have unlock spells.

The interesting part in Morrowind/Oblivion was buying the most cheap magic effect and setting a custom spell to being cost-effective.
In Oblivion had more fun with Absorb, Restore and Drain effects.
In Skyrim is a pain in the ass to only buy the better effects and if you're want to being full mage, is motherfucking costly in early to mid-game.

Even the magic overhaul mods aren't very good because of how obtuse it is to switch spells with skyrim's console first UI (even with SkyUI). As bad as morrowind's ui was, at least it was designed for PC and actually had its own spells tab. Even with hotkeys I still find Skyrim's system harder to use because of the dual wielding. I end up just using a single spell most of the time since its not even worth the hassle.

To this day my favorite morrowind build is high elf mage with atronach sign and alchemy as a major skill. Starting off the game with almost 300 magicka is really something.

Agreed. I started off trying to run a Dunmer sorc with heavy armor but just gave up and switched to sword and board with a few hotkeyed spells for utility. Especially I'm using Ordinator and damn does that mod's Conjuration perks buff bound weapons.

New ESO expansion if there is anyone that even cares. For some reason Dunmer in ESO look like humans with gray skin and pointy ears.
ESO trailers have always had a really generic look IMO. Is this really how the artstyle is in game? The only time I ever played it was like a free trial when it first came out so I can't really recall...

yeah it pretty much looks like that but with 2010 looking MMO graphics and a draw distance that rivals vanilla Morrowind. I had to get a mod to make things not fade away 50 feet in front of me

Bit awkward to find this; I'm wanting to try and run a magic build in Skyrim. Got any tips?

1) Don't put any perk points into Alteration/Illusion. They are worse than useless.
2) If you are going full robe-wearing mage, you need a companion or Conjuration summon to compensate for the lack of armor.
3) There are spells in the Destruction schools that "paint" fire/ice/electricity on the ground and damage anyone who stops on them. Don't look past these; they do more damage than you might think.
4) Don't bother with ice magic. Nords resist 50% of the damage. Nord vampires resist 100% of the damage. Lightning isn't a bad choice as there isn't much that resists it.
5) When you're in a big fight and need to give spells more oomph, remember that, unlike enchantments, "Fortify x" potions increase the magnitude of spells for a limited time.
