That's correct, I've been using both Vortex and MO2 and I don't notice a difference in terms of how files are being handled. I can easily disable something in Vortex and not run into any issues. It might have been true in the past for Vortex, I only started using it a year ago or two.

As far as I'm aware, isn't this misconception? Vortex doesn't touch your game's directory in a way that would cause problems for the game, it uses hard-links. I tend to prefer MO2 because I started out with MO2 and have a bit more familiarity it, however, I have found that I can do almost everything in both programs, albeit a bit differently.

You might be right. I haven't used Vortex in years now, so maybe they've changed how they handle mod files or the directories by now. But I remember being like that when it first released.

What are some arguments against using a Vortex deployment? I've only ever seen reasons that boil down to "because it sucks", without any technical explanations explaining why it is inferior to MO2.

Iirc Vortex touches your actual file system order with all the mods and plugins still, MO creates an independant file system/mod storage that you can then install and remove willy nilly
Say, if you have a mod that directly replaces a texture, Vortex would overwrite the texture and shit would go tits up when you disable it. MO just makes a "virtual" filesystem that deploys and overrides the texture to your game when you enable it, but doesnt actually replace the file. So when you disable it, it turns back to the vanilla texture without issue
It also tries to niggercattle you by automatically trying to resolve conflicts and introducing convoluted definitions to display conflicts. MO just tells you if something replaces something and its up to you if/how your resolve it

Imo MO2 is simpler than people think and people who say its complex are retarded, its easier to use than either of its predecessors (NMM, FOMM, OMM) or Wyre Bash. It also works for every bethesda game including plugins that make it work on OpenMorrowind.

I've yet to manage to get that dogshit software to actually install mods and always have to resort to doing shit manually. Thunderstore mod manager is also fucking dogshit with a similar track record for not fucking working as advertised, especially when it comes to anything Unity-related because BepInEx is also flaming dogshit that I genuinely can't get to install on anything despite always following the official guide down to the letter.
