The Final Fantasy Thread

Counterpoint:
Yeah but it turns out that’s her telling a noble lie.
The point is that she had no professed, romantic interest in Cloud and the only person she had any confirmed romantic interest in was Zack. That has nothing to do with shipping. That's just what objectively happened.
So your argument is she has to say it? Rather than simply act on it? That’s not a very objective standard in my opinion.

Look at this, we have one person seeming to argue Cloud doesn’t authentically love her and another saying she doesn’t have feelings for him. But we have this game pushing romantic subtext and affection mechanics on them both in particular. This is either a work of subtle 5D chess genius from Square or they just liked one another.

By, what, just because TGA trailers emphasized her relationship moments with Cloud in the upcoming game?

My guy, that could be bait to generate hype, because I'm pretty sure they know how hard new and old fans alike want their Cloud/Aerith relationship.

From dev interviews. Nojima said “when I wrote that line some people were concerned that it didn’t sound like Aerith. But I explained it makes sense if you know what happens to her.”
And in other dubs her wording is more akin to ‘it’s pointless’.

Also it’s literally just old fans who want that content. New fans (or rather, secondaries) think she’s defined by Zack and Cloud is defined by Tifa.

And what has she done to actually act on it? And I mean in the original game. She never kissed Cloud. Went on a date with him. Had sex with him. She's never expressed at all, in anyway that she like him in the romantic sense. She never did any of these things in the "remake" either, to be honest.

SquareEnix may be playing around with subtext in the trailers but that doesn't mean its going to go anywhere. Hell, still not sure what role Zack will end up playing in all this. Maybe he comes back to life somehow or never died in this timeline. Who freaking knows at this point?

ugh when I said I was happy they were going with other studios than just the arems and seitz.....this is not at all what I fucking meant

No? There's just as many new fans and secondaries that subscribe to her being with Cloud as well.

Shipping wars never change regardless of how recent the fans are.

Like I said, "unless you're a lunatic shipper who assigns arbitrary rules to this sort of thing."
I mean Jessie kisses Cloud so I guess she's valid? Get real.

If you say so. Maybe I'm just too old and so when I think new fans I reflexively think people who started with CC.

I really don't want to buy a PS5 just to play Rebirth, but goddamn it if Square isn't making it hard for me not to.
Get it for RoboCop, 40k space marine and all the other next next gen stuff.

It’s causing more consternation than I predicted. But also way more hype.

I don’t know why people are surprised Square would want to highlight Cloud and Aerith’s relationship when the two are headed for tragedy. Square would have to be more incompetent and gutless than they’ve ever been to not build that up.

Like, despite Tifa being more popular and the woman he actually lives out his life with, regular people who know about FF7 are likely to say Aerith is his girlfriend because their doomed affections are so iconic.
I like how they allow you to veer away from it if you pick Tifa all the time.

I went after aerith when I played the original way back when, but knowing the context of his relationship with Zack it felt more then a little wrong to go after his best friend's girl.

I really was hoping for some more southern grit. Time will tell if it gets better, but all I know about him is he's gay.

Finished the Echoes of the Fallen DLC for XVI. It was decent, the last boss you face in it (Omega) is a lot harder than Ultima.

I never played 7 or the remake. So it looks like all there are of the expanded 7 remake for ps5 are non region 1 copies? Is it still like how you can't download dlc on ps4 if its another region?

What are you even trying to argue here? What is the point of all this?
I don't think I was the one bringing the argument my boy. I said "obviously they'd want us to focus on Cloud and Aerith because she's gonna die and they have to hit that tragic note." Totally middle of the road take.

I was the opposite. I went Tifa at first but upon realizing the Aerith date was more narratively substantial (even about Cloud's identity issue) I changed.

I do want to stress that by the time the party reaches Gold Saucer, both women would have to be downies to not realize that Cloud is a looney tune, with Tifa practically encouraging his delusion.

I played the dlc yesterday and most of it was just ok, but
omega was the highlight. One of my favorite bosses in the game in general.

Seymour is a villain you love to hate, he’s just so cocky and unapologetic. Some people think his dub voice is unfitting and hard to take seriously but I disagree, it makes him even slimier and goes with his flamboyant appearance. Yunalesca is pretty good too.
A lot of people seem to dislike Seymour too, but I liked him. He was creepy and interesting. Yunalesca never gets talked about, but that's one of my favorite villains.
I think the dislike for Seymour boils down to two reasons.
His design looks kind of stupid. The way the red cloth around his stomach flares out makes it look like he has a gut, and he would probably look better if he had his midriff completely exposed instead. As for his hair, I really want to take a pair of scissors and snip those weird antlers off.

The second reason is, narratively, he overstays his welcome. I think he should have been permanently killed following the 2nd boss fight against him, because after that he doesn't serve much purpose plotwise, and I found myself thinking "Geez, this guy again?" whenever he showed up.

Alright. I'm rather tired of this trend where people argue with intuitively obvious information. It just so happens I found an excerpt from a dev interview with Toriyama (one of the senior developers of both OG FF7 and the Remake). I believe it was published in the first ultimania they put out and it concerns Aerith's resolution scene.

I hope it can assist @Gravemind and especially @The Demon Pimp of Razgriz I'll also pick out the Nojima one if I run across it.

A good point.. but the scene itself is optional.

Am almost done with the base game of FF XVI.
Just finsihing up all the side quests and the hunts before I go and beat up Ultimas ass.
Also, I agree that Barnabas would have been more fitting to be the main villian. He is so fucking cool while Ultima is just.... a douche.
