The Final Fantasy Thread

This is my luck grinding setup. A slow one with bad RNG. 3-4 minutes is the usual time. Max Strength, Defense, Magic Defense, and Agility(170 is adequate). Lulu has 150 luck, Rikku 212, Wakka 189. Auto-Phoenix, Auto-Protect, Auto-Haste, Ribbon/Stoneproof armor(Dark Aeon armor). I'm putting together a Penance Extreme party(beating him without killing the arms), hence all the grinding.

Ultra NulAll(Healing Spring+Healing Spring) and Quick Hit. I had to Entrust the Overdrive gauges to Rikku for the Dark Matter grind. 3-5 Cheers will work with high enough stats, but it's slower.
it's interesting that you use lulu. rikku and wakka are pretty common, but i don't think i've ever seen anyone use lulu over tidus or auron. as for my party's armor: Tidus and Wakka have Break HP Limit (yes i know that break hp limit is pretty unnecessary and is a wasted slot), Auto-Haste, Auto-Phoenix, Ribbon. Auron has Break HP Limit, Auto-Protect, Ribbon. i still have an empty slot for auron's armor, but i'm not entirely sure what i want to put there because while auto-haste would be nice, i'm using auron's celestial weapon which gives him first strike, so he will always go first, even during an ambush. i figure i could always cast haste on that first turn, or i could do some other type of set-up. i could probably throw auto-phoenix on his armor, i'll think about it. also lololollolol beating penance legitimately or with any additional challenges lololol, fuck that, i'm zanmatoing that shit. the only reason i'm doing what i'm doing is so i can beat dark yojimbo.

Wakka is a bad motherfucker. Stoneproof armor because grinding Dark Matter is the worst shit of the entire Final Fantasy series.

i should probably consider using rikku more just so i can use her mixes, since i've seen people use ultra nulall and eccentrik, which increases the rate your party's overdrive gauges fill by 2x, and if you're using the attack reels+world champion strategy, that's the kind of shit you need.

for some inexplicable reason, when i picked the game back up after having last played it in 2016, i already had ribbon armor equipped to most of my party, and i could not remember if i fucking /grinded/ to make all of that, and if i did, wow. i vaguely remember doing some grinding dark matters for ONE piece of armor, but surely not multiple.

Damn you guys are nerds
THIS IS YOUR FAVORITE FF GAME, WHY DON'T YOU AUTISTICALLY KNOW THE IN'S AND OUTS OF THE COMBAT SYSTEM

No.

Well, okay. Nobody should be accused of liking FFXII until found guilty in a court of law.
I liked watching the cutscenes on youtube. Especially liked the theory it's the prequal to FF14. It fits like a glove.

FF12 has tedious combat and upgrade systems, and I didn't really give much of a shit about any of the characters. The weird Star Wars ripoff aesthetic it's got going is also a turn off, I think it has one of the weaker OSTs too despite still being good.

The only thing I really liked was the scope, the cities finally felt more like actual places. You couldn't go into a lot of buildings but they were there, and the cities were bustling with activity. Graphics were incredible for PS2, but the art style wasn't great.

MEANWHILE, BACK TO FFX

finally beat dark yojimbo five times, rng was merciful because he used wakizashi maybe twice throughout all five battles. the only thing i did differently was fill tidus, wakka, and auron's overdrive bars before each battle. "but lurker there aren't any random battles once you start fighting dark yojimbo!" WRONG. due to some kind of oversight, you can still trigger random battles by simply walking over, NOT USING, the teleporter pad. i guess the game maybe thinks that you intend to teleport when you walk on the pad, and re-enables random battles even though you never actually teleported. and you don't need to keep going back to the teleporter pad to re-enable random battles because the effect lasts the entire time you stay in the cave. so all i did was set my party's overdrive modes to victor, win two battles, change my party's overdrive modes back to comrade, equip one of my unused party members with some no encounters armor, make my way to the save point, heal and save (that way at least i can keep whatever i got from yojimbo even if i die), rinse and repeat.

and then i went on to penance. first battle was just a test to see how badly my party would fare. needless to say everyone died. then i fought him again and charged yuna's overdrive so she could grand summon yojimbo, then i threw a million gil at him, and he used zanmato on the first try.

i earned that win.

One thing I can guarantee, despite having not played it myself, its still better than FFXIII.

Yes, but less gritty combat details, more about how it has the best romance in gaming and how Auron is the coolest character in the franchise.

I actually agree but just barely. I prefer FFXIII's combat and music, plus it's still pretty damn nice looking today, holding up very well. It has some things going for it compared to FFXII, but they're both near the bottom tbh.

how Auron is the coolest character in the franchise
also yes everyone knows and agrees as it is an objective fact that auron is the coolest ff character.

also i love ffxiii. i love long hallways. oh, what's that? a branching path? lol no, it's a dead end or a loop, return to the hallway. the main cast is fucking insufferable and i liked none of them.

the music does slap, though. i like the remixed 'blinded by light' battle theme in xiii-3.
the lyrics are something like
a flash breaks darkness
face a dying world
all for a new world souls are led to their final salvation
