I don't think a game ever made me cry. I teared up because of books, movies, plays and songs but videogame cutscenes just don't have the same effect on me.

I think the first time I cried from a game was when I watched the bad ending of Oddworld: Abe’s Exoddus.

That's actually surprising to me. Yeah, the way he dies is brutal, but the tone of the game is so darkly cheeky that I could never look at it from that angle. Damn fine game though. Damn fine.

I guess that’s what I love about the games in general.

They’re very clearly satirical and filled with dark humor. But not so much you can’t get invested in what’s going on.

The epilogue and end credits to Earthbound. Being able to walk around and talk to people and see how your journey affected them really hit me with how small the world can seem sometimes, and the digitized "I miss you" during the credits song pushed me over the edge.

When Ghosts'n'Goblins said I had to play through it again.

Oddworld: Strange's Wrath has some great moments as well, it got a remaster not long ago and while parts of the game can be tedious that game goes to unexpected places.

Lorne Lanning(one of the Oddworld founders) seems like a nice man, there's probably interviews on youtube so check them out. He's very thoughtful, optimistic and has a different perspective/take on most things.
