Appears as if there’s a 90’s toy revival movement. Bandai just recently re-released the terrible generation 1 Tamagotchi which appear to be flying off shelves. It would not surprise me if the generation 1 Furby received another breath of life, both toys being insanely popular for some reason. Hopeful, because it’ll likely start a hilarious war in that odd, reprehensible community.

And they have Gen 2 as well. I am not big on Tamagotchi, but I thought the Japanese exclusives were legions better. Mothra had one. It was pretty awesome.

I don't have an exact reason for why someone would do that to a rare Furby, but it's safe to assume that anyone who does that is 'special', if you know what I mean.

It could make the Furby somewhat more rare, but it could also buttfuck the value hard.

The furby "fandom" is full of ftm autists. Unlike the owners of BeanieBabies, furbie owners wish for their childish toys to become severely mutilated and deformed or covered in filth. "Custom furbies" refers to furbies that have had severed stuffed animal parts sown onto them and are smeared with glitter glue. From what I can tell, "long furbies" are furbies that have been elongated to look like a snake. The appeal of this is unknown. Furbies that have become fused with other furbies are called "mutant furbies".

Common furby tags on tumblr are #allfurby #safefurby and #furby fandom.

Higher end furbies tend to have custom fur (normal furby fur is replaced with higher-quality fur), custom eyelashes (longer, sometimes glittery or a different color), and things like wings or horns. It's not that different than people who customize dolls.

Still a weird hobby.


Operation-Forb on tumblr has a fair amount of nightmare fuel. The owner of these toys is 24 and enjoys turning them into monstrosities, including a "Forb" (furby orb), then treats them how a mother treats her newborn baby. And of course she uploads pictures online.
