The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

I don't think it was really a mind blowing prediction to have but its a real shame how easy it was to predict it. Spoilers obviously. Still looking forward to watching it.

Watched the first episode of Singular Point, with no subtitles so I can't really comment much on the plot or characters, but I like the animation style. I'm really glad they didn't just go full CGI, the 2D stuff looks well done and colorful.
I really liked the episode. They did a good job on building up mystery in the first 10 minutes and the characters are quirky but likeable. I really hate that AI thing though, it's just too over-the-top cutesy.

Can't believe I still have to wait for like 30 more hours. Suspense is killing me.

All I said was that I thought the movie sucked. You're the one who freaked out and went nuclear over it. LOL. Faggot.

It was objectively terrible. The fight scenes (which is why people go to see these movies) were awful. The plot had zero consistency to it. But you're deeply offended that someone else didn't like it because you chug Kaiju cock. Sad!
"I'm totally not mad" claims man who when their opinion is made fun of they feel the need to shit up the thread, spams reaction gifs, and insists on calling other people mad.

I really can't imagine anyone getting pissed because a kaiju film lacked logic and consistency. Like, you do know what genre this is right? These films were made to satisfy the dumb primal side of our brain. If you're lucky, sometimes there will be a kernal of poignancy or intellect. But most of the time, people celebrate the mindless fighting and monsters. That's it. That's the purpose of kaiju films.

Alright gonna post my thoughts and unlike the faggot poster above I'll try and best articulate why I was a little disappointed with the movie instead of just pissing all over the thread with worthless posts.

The dialogue (what little there was) seemed stilted and contrived.
The conspiracy guy and the kid subplot could've been totally left out and you wouldn't miss anything.
Why was Serizawa's kid even in this movie? Was it supposed to be some sort of revenge plot 'cause Godzilla didn't kill his dad. Although now that I think of it he could've been the one to uncover the conspiracy instead of the kids.
I kind of feel like most of the cast was just phoning it in, it's one thing to play up the spectacle and the hokiness of a monster movie but the acting just felt like everyone was burned out by the end of filming.
This movie could've been the second movie and just use some other titans brain or some other power source instead of what we got.
I think I'm a little burned out with the CGI monster fights. They were pretty epic in this one but all those crashing buildings didn't seem to have the same weight and gravitas as G'14.
The hollow earth stuff was dumb and should've never been included.

I did like MG's design more than I thought I would, the power fists were a nice touch.
The flying cobra things were pretty cool.
I did like in their first fight how G used the crocodile method on K and nearly won.
I'm a G fan through and through so I'm glad he fucked K up in Hong Kong.
K shoving the axe handle down G's throat was a nice callback.

Anyways I'm coming off this trilogy feeling a little let down that some of the potential was wasted. Maybe this movie will be my vs. Space Godzilla where I watch it once and then completely forget it exists until someone mentions it again. But two of my friends do want to go see it so maybe I'll end up watching it again afterall.

It was nice to be able to unwind in the theater again after over a year. Had my mask down the whole time like everyone else did and no one said anything. Welp that's my review thanks for reading. Hit me with those puzzle pieces if you like or dislikes or disagrees it's all good.

P.S. Looking forward to Singular Point at least this year won't disappoint with a lack of Godzilla content.

I felt like the whole bad guy/Mechagodzilla plot was a distraction and didn't need to be there.

Just have the movie be about Godzilla and Kong fighting for dominance.

Christ, they didn't even explain that the Serizawa guy was supposed to be the son of Ken Watanabe. He gets no backstory whatsoever.

And why did Godzilla kill every other titan between movies? Then what the fuck was the point of all of them bowing to him at the end of KOTM?

This movie didn't really have any moments that impacted me like the previous Godzilla films did. In the first one when Godzilla busted out the nuclear breath the first time or the way he finally killed the MUTO. In the second one when he was full powered and was melting everything around him. Ghidorah absorbing the electricity from the power station and shooting it all out of his body. Even Rodan decimating a city just by flying over it. Those were "holy shit!" moments and I felt like this one didn't have any of those.

The predictability was especially bad in this one. Before watching the movie it was obvious that there was going to be another force that comes in that Godzilla and Kong were gonna have to team up against. They killed all suspense and mystery with the Mechagodzilla reveal once they pointed it that the Apex facility Godzilla attacked at the start specialized in robotics it was beyond obvious. Also the moment Kong picked up the axe made out of the Godzilla spine thing I called that during the climax Kong was going to hold that axe up and Godzilla was going to charge it. There was some other stuff too, like the bad guys losing control of Mechagodzilla I saw coming. Though I am glad they did that because I felt it being human controlled was lame.

I really wasn't a fan of Millie Bobby Brown and crew's sub plot and it really annoyed me when they factored in at all with the final fight. Personal nitpick as well, the movie got way too Sci-fi for my liking, and at times it seemed like they were trying to be Tron with the aesthetic. I got some pretty major Pacific Rim vibes from this one as well and I wasn't a fan of Pacific Rim.

There were some cool fights. The deaf girl and her group were fine. Except for the villain with them, She was written so poorly. "Let's not fly around Kong, let's shoot him so he moves out of the way! Oh wait, now he is mad and killing us!". I like the other two Godzilla movies quite a bit so this one was pretty disappointing.

I liked... most of it. It's the weakest of the... what are they calling this one, the Monsterverse series, or something like that? Anyways, it's the weakest entry in that series by quite a bit, but still fun. Yes, worse than KotM. Still, even if it wasn't the best kaiju movie ever, I had fun.

Except the "B plot" where you have the paranoid black guy, the obnoxious rich bitch, and her gender-nonbinary dubiously-POC prepubescent incel sidekick. I hated basically every minute they were on screen in any capacity.

I'm struck by how much more... for lack of a better word, malicious this iteration of Godzilla feels. Usually even when Godzilla is in his Destroyer persona, Godzilla always has felt a bit... doofy and detached. More a destructive thing, you understand, than a vindictive monster. Not so this iteration, and I absolutely give them props for that.

If I had a single overall complaint about the movie, though... It's just the tone. This didn't feel like the same series as the previous ones. They were all mostly serious. This one felt almost 80's Cartoonish at times. Particularly the whole evil corp bit.

I think the humans were completely worthless. I honestly had a blast with this film but the humans really are incredibly boring and tedious at this point. I understand that this happens in every one of these films but snooore.

The fights were awesome and totally worth it though in my book.

I know Godzilla has had more screentime overall than Kong but I was jonesing for more of him. This was definitely more of a Kong film. Like ToddleDoddle said there wasn't any really awesome stand out moments, the fights were fun but a bit of a sensory overload. I'm weirdly happy and disappointed at the same time, I don't know how else to describe it. Pretty shocked at how well it's doing critically also. I'm glad they steered away from the preachier shit like "human bad, nature good".
