The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

If they don't do a physical release in the west, then I won't feel bad about having pirated it. How does it take this fucking long to make a dub?
It would be criminal if there was no physical release.

Maybe it's not just the production of the English dub ... But maybe it's because of the deal made with Legendary Pictures about how Toho can't "compete" with their MonsterVerse releases in the West. Maybe once Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is out on physical media (which will be this month), then perhaps Minus One's physical release will follow shortly after.

TV shows tend to have less budget than movies. Ultraman, along with Kamen Rider and Super Sentai are also serialized Tokusatu series. Godzilla kept the rubber suits up until Shin (which did have an animitronic) out of tradition. Also you can't tell me that the 1s and 0s of Monsterverse Goji, and Minus One Goji didn't convey emotion despite being 1s and 0s.
Well then you might as well enjoy every other Japanese movie out there since they're only good due to them not being woke. Is this film free of criticism or is it on the levels of Citizen Kane of perfectionism?

What the fuck are you on about? Where did I imply a movie was perfect. I don't see it in my quote. Ofc thebmocies have flaws.
I also don't give a shit about citizen Kane, so your analogy falls on deaf ears.

Just watched Godzilla Minus one since it made it to Netflix and I have to say my god this movie is amazing, in my mind this is a 10/10 film to me if for some reason you haven't watched it now is the time to watch it even if you already did.
Once every 10 years or so, I see a movie and immediately think to myself, "well, I found a new movie that I can place on my all-time favorites list." Sure, there's a lot of movies I see and really enjoy and maybe even love ... But it takes a lot for me to call something a favorite.

That was my reaction to seeing Godzilla Minus One for the first time ... And the second time ... And the third time. lol.

The last time that a movie made me feel this way was Whiplash in 2014.

Dude, literally my reaction too. Last one was KOTM, and now minus one (coincidently 2 goji movies). I've literally told all my friends, and Co workers to watch minus one. Also minus one minus color will be streaming at some point too later down the road.

Haven’t watched Minus One yet, but with it being available on Netflix, might as well watch it. I’ve heard pretty much everyone say how good it is, I’m a tiny bit skeptical going in since I’ve been binging all the Heisei movies (Vs Biollante is my favorite goji film atm, which kinda captures just everything I want out of a Godzilla film, and Vs Destroyah is a close second, because it’s such a good conclusion to the heisei series), I’ve already watched the original 1954 film, which I absolutely loved. I’m hoping Minus One has a bit of that energy in it.

I’ll probably post my thoughts once I actually get around to watching it, but for now I’m looking forward to finally getting to check it out since it’s available, and hoping the physical release comes out eventually.

The 1954 film feels like a funeral. It's a very somber and scary movie ... Definitely not a "feel good" movie. It's a work of art, though. It makes you feel, it makes you think, etc.

Minus One has tons of darkness and horror in it, but at the end of the day it's a story about the perseverance of the human spirit in the face of that total darkness. In my opinion, the movie is inspiring.

Both Gojira 1954 and Godzilla: Minus One are the greatest Godzilla movies ever made, in my opinion. And if you are a big fan of the 1954 film, then Minus Color is 100% worth seeing.

Is Godzilla super big with boomers or something?

I occasionally listen to boomer talk radio, and for whatever reason, pretty much every ad on it has offered the coupon code "Godzilla" for months now.

The older Godzilla films, primarily those from the 60s and 70s, were frequently aired on cable television. I imagine that's how most of them discovered the franchise.

This is a follow up since I watched Minus One earlier today, it 100% lives up to the hype and I take back any skepticism I had about it, I’m not one to usually buy into hype, but this one is the real deal and I’m glad I wasn’t disappointed at all.

Probably easily in my top 5 Godzilla Movies. The scene that really sold me was Godzilla’s appearence in Ginzo, that whole entrance was one hell of a way to come in especially with the familiar theme backing his rampage, and the atomic breath sequence is probably one of the coolest things in any Godzilla movie, I was not expecting his atomic breath to nuke the whole damn city. The human characters were also amazing, captivating, some of the best acting I’ve seen in a while. I also liked how they left it open for a sequel, the plot hooks of Godzilla regenerating and the girl being infected with G-Cells really make for an interesting cliffhanger (hoping the Biollante theories are true).

iirc they got a lot of play on AIP Creature Feature type stuff on broadcast tv too
but yeah Godzilla and the gang were very much pop culture, I recall a Soupy Sales with a one-off gag about Mothra Washington

Welcome to the club.

I still like the Showa era best. I've been running through those movies again, only up to Mothra vs Godzilla. Supposedly the anti-American subtext of Goji '54 was just too shocking for US audiences, but I dunno, it seems pretty even-handed, considering. Same as Minus One.

Has anyone watched and have an opinion on Godzilla Singular Point? I started watching it but kinda lost interest after a few episodes and I am curious if anyone thought it was worth finishing. I didn't make it through the other anime trilogy. I have seen pictures and figures of Godzilla's Singular Point design and think it's pretty cool.

Better than the anime trilogy.
Just get your head into showa zany mindset and you'll be fine.
