The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

Andre had fun with the movie, and him reiterating the film is such a blast.

It just hit me during the rewatch: What if Ghidorah had known of the Hollow Earth? Like Godzilla (or a member of his species, Aftershock suggests it was actually Dagon who fought Ghidorah) should be lucky that Ghidorah was buried under thousands of tons of ice and frozen over since there's a tunnel that directly goes to the Hollow Earth in Antarctica. Unless it was a legit nick-of-time encounter that he was about to head down there but was intercepted and it became his final resting place, think it would've been a complete disaster and Ghidorah would've fully won?

Having never watched a Godzilla movie before, I thought Godzilla vs. Kong is like a solid 6/10 with no prior knowledge. Would be a 7 if it weren’t for the plot with Bernie and the two kids, even in the context of a movie that’s not even trying to be realistic, the shit they managed to randomly stumble into was seriously fucking with my suspension of disbelief.

Also, how exactly does the hollow earth work? I assumed it would be a massive hollow but it seems to be a “layer” of empty space with land on both sides. Are they merely in one pocket of it with the full extent of the hollow earth yet to be revealed? Who actually BUILT the Kong temple? Is it just implied to be Kong’s ancestors who could use tools or are there greater forces at play in this canon?

It’s definitely got me interested in watching the ones that came before, though.

Looks like GvK is gonna surpass KOTM at the box office by or at this next weekend.

While I'm sure it was just a miracle given how much the pandemic lockdowns screwed everything over, imagine what the numbers would've looked like naturally.

Given Mothra is dead
Mothra dies all the time and it never stopped her :) From the top of my head: Mothra vs. Godzilla - imago dies, larvae live. Three-Headed Monster - one larva dies off-screen. Destroy All Monster - appears as a larva after being seen as imago in Terror from the Deep, so we can assume old imago died. GMK - dies, Tokyo S.O.S. - imago dies, larvae live. Final Wars - dies. KotM - dies.

Recently rewatched through Godzilla Returns to Godzilla VS Destoroyah and had a blast. For me I would say in terms of enjoyment it goes Return=>Mechagodzilla>King Ghidora>Destoroyah>Biollante=Godzilla and Mothra>Spacegodzilla. I remember liking Biollante more but after rewatching I don't know, I really like the design and the idea of it but it just wasn't as good a movie as I remember it. I completely forgot about the Linkara android in King Ghidora and that made the movie for me, every time he is on screen it is pure gold.

Okay ngl MechaGodzilla's design in this movie immediately made me think of this dude from Digimon:

I've seen brief bits of the film but being in the UK going to the cinema is a no-go. People are going bonkers now that lockdown has been lifted and I'm not really willing to go anywhere near crowds until I've gotten the full vaccine. I don't really stream movies either because I can't be bothered and it's not the same as going to see a movie on the big screen so it'll be a while before I give my honest thoughts.

I am curious about how the Monsterverse is going to handle Gigan. I did see he was in concept art for KOTM but according to the director the kaijus come with quite a price tag so he had to be cut out (which is understandable considering Ghidora and Mothra are flagship Toho monsters too).

I honestly don't wanna get my hopes up since we don't know if more movies or material of the Monsterverse will be made, but I legit think Gigan could be next, if not Destoroyah. He's literally just a cyborg, and MechaGodzilla happened, so why not bring in the angery cyborg chicken alien with the Xilians?

Didn't they already tease eggs on the moon in KotM? If they want Mothra (and/or Battra) in an upcoming movie they already gave themselves room for it.
Not on the moon, but yeah, Dougherty had to say it was Mothra's egg mentioned in the credits sequence. They had ran out of time before they could film the scene of Chen and Ling finding it with young twin girls (one of the two's daughters, or they're their nieces, you see them in the photograph) singing to the egg.

It would be fine without reincarnation and soul transfers. Giant monsters, bio-engineering and bio-terrorism are quite enough to make a good story.

bio-engineering and bio-terrorism
Duuuuuude, Alan Jonah's group could be the one behind Biollante's creation. I don't like how they just vanished in between movies, there's no way they still wouldn't be up to something.

I got confirmation today my Godzilla figurines have finally shipped. These ones:

Like finally.

I must say I would more likely see them making something different. Something that can: regenerate from a smallest bit of it's body, thrive in any environment (water, land, air), is corrosive to touch and can poison large populated areas by it's presence alone:

Beats a big rose \ crocodile, doesn't it? :)
And it would be a nice tribute to late Yoshimitsu Banno who kickstarted Monsterverse.
