The Godzilla Thread - Plus other giant monsters, no matter how popular or obscure

Caved in and bought the Millennium version of robo chicken boi too. Won't be here until end of July/Early August but I'm a patient girl so it's not an issue to me.

What is an issue is not being able to find a good Mothra Leo figurine without splashing out hundreds. :heart-empty:

It's actually the Rainbow one. The original is hard to find too.
That's a shame. I don't remember how we got the Rainbow Mothra Leo, so guess we got lucky. Still sucks that a lot of the Bandai figures are hard to get now. There's quite a few my little bro's missing that I think he'd like to have, like Orga, Megalon, Titanosaurus, and Battra. Damn.

Reading through these posts, I had forgotten how many makeovers Mothra Leo got in the Mothra Trilogy.

There was its laser shooting larval form, which cocooned into the adult Leo design, then Rainbow, which could transform in its Aqua form. Then in the third movie it became Armor Mothra to fight Ghidorah, and then shed that armor to be Eternal Mothra.

Its like they saw the popularity of Pokemon and were like "We can evolve our monsters too! Just watch!" lol.

Yeah that got me too. I actually watched the Mothra Trilogy for a project I'm working on and was surprised at how convoluted things got with Leo. He felt more like Digimon to me.

wasn't there some crossover works between Digimon and Toho Kaiju around that time?

Looks like I got some reading to do.

Guess what? My new phone is here. You know what that means?

I get to show off the cooler Gigan.

When my dad saw this guy on display he told me that he was extremely glad creatures like Millennium Gigan didn't exist in real life - I can't blame him for that. In all honesty I actually prefer Showa Gigan's design, but thanks to this project I've been working on since March I've grown quite fond of Final Wars's version of the best kaiju. I'm super impressed with the amount of detail on his limbs - they did a good job with this one too!

Now if only I could find Rainbow Mothra at a price that wouldn't require me taking out a mortgage...

Think of all the vinyl figures my brother has in his collection, Millennium Gigan is definitely my favorite. I really do need to just show off his collection one day, but that means setting out all his shit for a crowdshot pic lol.

Worth posting.

I heard talk Singular Point season two news should be coming out soon, and we should be hearing more about World of Godzilla as well. We got spoiled these last few years with Godzilla stuff one after the other, so things being quiet for so long has felt much longer.

While Showa Gigan is one of my favorite Kaiju in terms of the originaIity of his design, I disagree somewhat on Final Wars Gigan compared to Showa Gigan. This is because Final Wars Gigan does not look like a cyborg, more like a robot, and since Gigan is supposed to be a cyborg, it kind of ruins the effect. Plus, the monotone blue/black coloration of Final Wars Gigan just makes him look boring and generic.

There is also the fact that Final Wars Gigan's posture looks "off". He is way too humanoid in both posture and shape compared to that of Showa Gigan. Because of the long tail, and saurian/avian anatomy, he should lean forward somewhat instead of standing straight up like many other saurian bipeds do. Look how Godzilla has a forward-sloping stance...and Gigan should have something similar.

I would like to see a revamp of Gigan that is mostly based on the Showa version, only make him less "pudgy" looking and more realistic and muscular instead of the rubber "corset" on his torso, and the gold scales that he has in random spots on the body look tacky and cheap...so perhaps he should be uniformly green or gold.

As far as weapons go, Gigan should probably retain his original Showa ones, and he should keep his eye-laser as his main ranged weapon. Still, perhaps his claws should have the ability for the tips to extend rapidly to impale things. I would also like to see him use his metal beak to bite with more, as it looks very sharp.

Finally, Showa-era Gigan was a lot more intelligent than his Final Wars era counterpart, as he seemed to be very cunning in the confrontations he was in. Final Wars Gigan was a dumbass who somehow manages to decapitate himself with his own weapons.

Anyway, I have always liked Gigan, as there has not really been any other Kaiju like him. I do wish that there should be more of an exploration of where Gigan came from as even the aliens that have controlled him in the past were not sure what his origins were.

Imagine if Gigan was never actually a naturally-existing creature, but some sort of bioengineered monster that was grown in a laboratory with a mixture of both biological lab-grown tissues and cybernetic parts.

Extremely long Gigan post.
Ah, nice to see a fellow Gigan enjoyer.

I'd really like to see Gigan's origins expanded on a little bit too. Just enough to sort of give us an idea of his history but not enough to explain everything (besides if we saw what his life was like before being a cyborg or something like that would cause people to focus on potential angst rather than everything else about Gigan). I always saw Showa Gigan as the kid friendly version of Millennium Gigan but always preferred the intelligence of the former.

I just found this thread, so you never know what you might find on the Farms.

Anyway, here is a concept by a digital artist named Larry Quach

Gigan Final Cyborg Mode.jpg

It is mostly based on the Showa version, yet without the cheesiness, and I like the fact that this version of Gigan does not have a humanoid posture...and still looks like a cyborg rather than purely robotic.
