It's important to remember, in pricing, that the less thought is put behind the purchase, the better. For something like a monthly fee to a web forum, $20 is what I consider the "impulse" cutoff. $20 is what I spend when I wanna top off my tank. $20 is what I will spend if I wanna get a bite to eat while away from home for a while. $20 is how much I will shill out for any video game. When you get into $30USD, you're getting into "full tank of gas territory" and that's when people start asking themselves "do I really need this" and the answer usually ends up bring "no".
