The Harry Potter Fandom

Honestly, I'm pretty much okay with this. She should get points for originality, anyway, and her drawings display some knowledge of Louis XVI's life. Reminds me a bit of this DeviantArt user who appears to be in love with Soviet Commissar for Defense Klement Voroshilov and draws him engaging in wacky antics with Stalin in the Kremlin. The world has plenty of historical ignoramuses who are infatuated with Marie Antoinette; loving Louis XVI is at least original.

Anyway, returning to the topic at hand, I believe that anyone who enjoys "My Immortal" owes it to themselves to read this comic adaptation which, unfortunately, peters out shortly after the scene where Loopin is caught masticating at Ebony. There are many dubious adaptations of "My Immortal" on the Internets; I think this one is the best I've seen.

I briefly remember the Potter online fandom back in 2004. Most people watched the movies and more than quite people read the books as well. I also remember a store nearby where I lived always being sold out of those Harry Potter-inspired flavored jelly beans that had dirt and booger flavored jelly beans. At the time, it was babby's first fandom. The fandom consisted of mostly young teenagers that would write horrible fanfics, draw anime-esque fanart, and the horrible photobucket small image with caption things. Yeah, the fans were pretty nuts in the mid-2000s.

Noticed a high school I once went to started up a Harry Potter Club some years back and is still bothering to exist.

This is one of my biggest gripes with the idea of fandoms: you don't get to decide how the story goes. The Harry Potter series is JK Rowling's story, and whatever she says, goes, end of. You can't just decide that "actually these two characters love each other" or "actually this character had a different color of skin" if they're not your characters. Personally I'd have no problem with a black Hermione, but if JK Rowling says she's white, then she's white.

Well, if someone wants to write a fan fic based on the idea, or fan art (Like, "What IF"), I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Fan fic/art is really just for fun. Or at least it should be. The problem starts when people take it seriously, and think that the author really MEANT it the way they feel it should be. (Like people who insist that Dumbledore is really straight, for example. Want to write a fan fic where he is? Go for it. Freak out at the idea that he's gay and insist Rowling is wrong about it? Shut up and get a life.)

The best "what if" fanfic I read was one where Lupin and Tonks survive, and it's about how Teddy finds out his dad's a werewolf. It's absolutely adorable and hysterical at the same time.

Don't get me started though on people who start orgasming over "The Methods of Rationality". Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I just cannot get into it at all. Even the, "oh my god, you have to read this part, it's so funny!" was pretty meh.

My ex is a really REALLY big HP sperg. So much so she got a death eater tattoo on her arm. Now I grew up with HP but had pretty much replaced it with the Star Wars EU at some point. My ex tried really really hard to get me into the HP fandom scene but I was cold on it and for some reason blamed it on my love for star wars.

Fast forward to a week before our break up and she had just gotten the death eater tattoo mark and is one of assholes when they get a tattoo they have to show it off so people will comment on it. Meanwhile, I'm wearing an old star wars shirt i decided to throw on. We go to 6 Flags and I end up getting invited to a Star Wars Rave in NYC, given a ticket to get in free and become friends with a bunch of cool potheads who like scifi movies.

Meanwhile nobody commented on her shitty tattoo. I pointed it out and she got pretty fucking pissed. A week later I was single. And thats how my second longest relationship came to an end: because of a shirt and the fact nobody gave a shit about Harry Potter outside the internet in 2013.

It's too bad Journalfen is down; hms_stfu had some pretty good stuff about some HP lolcows. Mostly either Harmonians or Snapefen. The downside is that most HP-focused lolcows don't produce much in the way of new content, the upside is that there's a long backlog if you want to dig through it.

The STFU definitely went before its time. From what I remember a couple people made homophobic/transphobic posts and the mods decided to delete the entire thing. Darn shame.

So, with a new book and series in the works, can we expect a new wave of insane Potterheads?

I fucking love the Harry Potter fandom. And I don't mean as a fan who actively participates in it (Although I do like Harry Potter but not that much) but from an outsider's perspective, it's was fucking hysterical to watch. The height of it's craziness took place long before the SJW influence sucked the fun out of everything, so you got pure unadulterated autism that sperged over the most trivial and wtf things. I remember being in 5th grade and looking up fanfiction because I really liked the series and I thought Ron and Hermione would make a cute couple (I didn't even know what "shipping" even was or it even existed back then) and being very confused on what I saw (A lot of gay and pedophilic shit, for starters). As I got older and started to understand how the internet worked, browsing the Harry Potter fandom for lolz became an occasional hobby of mine. When I was a teen, I would sometimes browse the LJ community "Fandom_Secrets", which was basically Tumblr before Tumblr, and there was never ending drama in regards to the HP fandom, especially shipping. People would get violently angry if anyone ever criticized Snape/Lily or Remus/Lupin. People would get so spregy over fictional relationships in a children book series about a boy who goes to magic school. Also "Snape Wives." Yeah.

Everyone has heard of My Immortal, but there are some other fics that were very infamous in the Harry Potter fandom, a lot of them 2edgy4me.
Like the one where Lucius Malfoy drills a hole into his son's head and fucks it. Or when Harry digs up his dad's grave and fucks his rotting corpse.

Wait what? Do you have the titles to those ones? O.o
