The Last of Us Franchise - Because it's apparently a franchise now. This thread has been double-DMCA’d by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

I'm doing a final playthrough on the first game. Sort of a last romp before the sequel destroys my ability to enjoy it. I was wondering if anyone else found fighting hand to hand with the zombies as satisfying as I do.

No other games or even movies I've seen has people beating zombies to death with their bare hands. God fucking damn it it's satisfying.

I recommend Zombie Revenge (Naomi/Dreamcast), where you can kill zombies with a figure four leglock.

When I watch this, all I can think of is that Simpsons episode where Marge becomes a body builder and threatens Homer to have sex with her

That's a nice idea. Or some people remaining in the government realize this and capture her. They realize they can weaponize the fungus by extracting it from her saliva and CSF. They can use this to threaten survival groups and restore America. They turn it into a gas and start fungusing up anyone who won't listen to them.

So Joel either has to destroy the remains of the government or save Ellie. I mean, its an easy decision.

You just kill all remaining government employees.

If its not in her bloodstream, no. HIV infects all fluids because its carried around and distributed by the bloodstream. If the fungus hasn't entered her blood, only her saliva would be infectious and only through saliva to blood contact, much like an injection.

If its in her bloodstream, she'd be a walking, but sentient fungus monster. Just because it hits the brain doesn't make you transform. The fungus itself will most certainly cause deformities and grow on or out from the epidermis itself. She'd basically be a walking infection if it hit her blood. So the reasonable conclusion is that it hasn't.

I know its more fun to say she's a walking HIV fungal infection, but taking it from a disease perspective I don't really think so at all.
Flawless logic: except the very same surgeon that was gonna operate on her took samples from her blood. Without the white bloodcells in her system to combat the infection, it rapidly grew cordyceps in other fungal growths by itself.

Right, one thing that's been bugging me for ages is that for despite our autism here, none of you have figured out why Ellie was so important to the Fireflies. Yes, there were other immune people before. And guess what? They actually weren't immune to the disease, but their immune systems were capable of holding it off for whatever reason, as seen by their elevated white blood cell counts. They probably would have all succumbed to the fungus eventually as soon as their immune systems were forced to deal with some other infection. But Ellie? For whatever reason her fungal infection did not spread at all beyond the blood serum or spinal fluid nor was her body actively fighting it off.

April 28th. Marlene was right. The girl's infection is like nothing I've ever seen. The cause of her immunity is uncertain. As we've seen in all past cases, the antigenic titers of the patient's Cordyceps remain high in both the serum and the cerebrospinal fluid. Blood cultures taken from the patient rapidly grow Cordyceps in fungal-media in the lab... however white blood cell lines, including percentages and absolute-counts, are completely normal. There is no elevation of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and an MRI of the brain shows no evidence of fungal-growth in the limbic regions, which would normally accompany the prodrome of aggression in infected patients. [Emphasis Mine]

So yes, she was absolutely special, because for all anyone knows she might have had a mutant strain that wasn't nearly as aggressive as the others and might have actually acted as a sort of vaccine against the "eat your brain" fungus we saw. Doesn't change the fact the Fireflies were trying to kill the goose that laid golden eggs of fluid and tissue samples, though, so even from the most shamelessly utilitarian standpoint those surgeons deserved what they got.

Note: I've never played the game or watched any footage or streams and have just been in this thread for the salt and tears, so I can't exactly sympathize with the whole Joel/Ellie thing due to not having seen it at all. That said, I am certain that if I had played or otherwise experienced TLoU I'd be wishing I had a katana so I could go full Jack the Ripper on them all for what they wanted to do to my adoptive daughter.

The concept of revenge for a faceless character could work. The problem is the framing, I mean if Ellie was the only playable character and the player went about on a random adventure for a cure during first third of the story. Helping people on the way. You meet Joel, hang out and have a comfy time. The player then visits characters from the first game just to see how they are. After the adventure, Ellie and Joel rest at a home base of sorts. They get ambushed by Abby. Ellie and Joel get separated. Joel fights Abby and is initially on the offensive. Abby mentions the firefly incident and how Joel killed her dad. This stops Joel for a second which Abby uses to take the advantage and kill him.

Abby should then run away with a confused or not-satisfied look on her face. The second third should be you as Ellie rampaging through America to find Abby. A lot of innocents get hurt. The good you did previously gets undone. Someone Ellie loves dies to clickers because she was focused on revenge rather than living. This all combinates in a final confrontation with Abby at her "camp" where a lot of families that are connected to the fireflies stay. Ellie destorys the place, letting clickers run wild. Abby and Ellie fight. Partway through Abby should slowly lose the will to fight whenshe realises that she's like the man she hated. This causes Ellie to be in an advantageous position to kill Abby. Just as Ellie is about to kill Abby, a clicker finishes the job for her. Alone, in a dangerous infested camp, Ellie escapes with the same look Abby had when she killed Joel.

The final third should be about Ellie visiting the places she messed up and trying to fix them again. Only for people to either attack on side or push her away. This causes Ellie to segregate from everyone else. The final confrontation of the game should be Lev coming for revenge against Ellie. Ellie wins, but feels empty and let's Lev go.
I don't think think the "cycles of revenge" works in a game like last of us, and your version still has it. I think we should really nail home "the last of us" angle, without the alphabet people. I like the idea of a child of the people from the first goes after them, and while joel and ellie are out, she stealths in and kills a lot of people. Could be a playable scene where you just kill tons of them. Joel and Ellie coming back seeing that everyone is dead, abby is already gone. They start following her to kill her for what abby did, bunch of shit in the middle to pad the game and build the world, then the climax is abby fighting ellie and joel, losing but hurting joel, and before she dies, is angry at joel and ellie and spills the beans that it's unfair joel doesn't get what he deserves after what he did at the firefly hospital. Ellie demands she tell her what she is talking about. She tells ellie she was the only known case for immunity to the fungus, and that joels actions are causing the end of mankind. Ellie angry at Joel demands the truth, and he tells her honestly and ellie tells him to save himself and leaves abby and joel to their fate. The huge finale is abby laughing while joel begs ellie not to leave and that he loves her. Final shot is ellie alone walking on a road or something. "The last of us" sort of thing.

That's just my 2 cents though.

And it's a great way to save on resources, too! I'll give them one thing; the combat in TLoU 1 was immensely satisfying, especially when you're with Ellie and she calls out enemy locations and what they're doing, on top of occasionally throwing shit at them or jumping onto their back for Joel.

I think we should really nail home "the last of us" angle
Like it was said earlier, The Last Of Us sounds like an anthological setup, where we see things from other perspectives. TLoU1 was set from Joel and Ellie's perspective; other entries could focus on the soldiers of the quarantine zones, some of the bandits... fuck, you could even use the Fireflies, and that would already be an infinitely better way to set up any kind of hackeneyed "revenge plot" just so we can see it from their eyes instead of getting dumped into Abby's shoes and told we're supposed deal with it.

The Redditors are Abby and the leaker is Joel.

Honestly seems rather doubtful this guy leaked it. He left ND in 2018, right? You're telling me this guy was holding onto a copy of TLOU2 for all this time, and that it looked pretty much done two years ago? I dunno.

That feels like a good second act end to me. Use the first to build the world, introduce Joel/Ellie's group and maybe have some beef between them and the cultists. Instead of padding the middle of the game have this personal vendetta you outlined and use Abby's death as the match that lights the fire going into the ending along with the drama of Ellie finding out the truth. Not sure where to go from there just spitballing in the middle of the night. Think this is one of those times pretty much any idea will sound better then the reality.

Honestly, anything we are suggesting would be better from a narrative ark. The story they are pushing is so banal and mundane it's so empty.

I don't want a heated ending for Joel and Ellie. I want something that's almost boring to really mimic her emptiness towards him. The cult doesn't even need to exist as it does right now. The "the gays!!!!" angle is just so forced. Maybe an apocalypse cult pushing the fungus trying to get it to spread because man deserves to die.

There's one big issue with that: Whenever they hand an IP off to some other company like Sanzaru or High Impact the game is just crap. Its not as polished and the story takes a huge down turn regardless.

Ironically, it's the opposite of Bethesda, where they only time the games don't suck is when they're made by people other than Bethesda.

say whatever you want about TLOU but it had probably one of the most conclusive endings possible. A sequel, tranny or not, would just be a cashgrab unless there was a ton of time and thoughtfulness put into the writing (assuming it's a direct sequel to the first game).

"Send the DMCA again John, maybe this time they will take us seriously."

Also, I'm surprised nobody mentioned TWD games for pointlessly killing off characters, like Kenny's/Jenny's death being offscreen.
What's that, Naughty Dog? Post the big ending you linked that you're trying to hide from people so we can have users catch-up who're just jumping on now out of curiousity? Why, what a fantastic idea.

On a related note: fuck Sony.

I hope I'm not late with this uwu

That's great. Seriously, these memes, so much salt from naughty dog and sony, but these are so sweet. That perfect balance.

You know, they never 100% confirmed that her bite gives people the fungus. I think it was only speculated, but imagine having that fuck you trump card. I may die here, but you might kill everyone you love too as a zombie.

I always thought Tlou would of worked better as an anthology series. The second game could of been from the pov of some soldiers or heck give us some insight into some bandits. This way the Tlou wouldn't be ruined by any later entries and at most Ellie and could simply passed reference.
Now that you mention it, it could have been you playing as a soldier during the outbreak as a more action orientated game. Maybe your squad mates get killed by Joel or something. I don't know, literally anything would have been better.

Evern Angry Joe is really upset about the story, which just shows you how badly ND messed up with the story.

Really it doesn't matter what they do. If it goes somewhere else the entirety of the game is gonna be crap. God Forbid they make it themselves. None of the people that made those old games good are still there. For the sake of those IPs it would be better if they just stayed dead and buried.

This. Did everyone just forget how absolute shit games like Sly Cooper Thieves In Time were? Just leave it dead, don't applaud the corpse getting dragged out for another encore to squeeze an extra couple of shekels out of a known IP.
